No. I didn't mean it to be. I guess not everyone had horrible experiences there. There's some good too. I did enjoy your upload, though. I like to categorize videos by their date and which buildings are still standing.
Some were de-institutionalized into homes. I managed a home for five boys in Eugene, Oregon and had one older guy from Fairview there. He went to work every morning and came home in the afternoon and had free time. He had friends, co-workers, and could go into the community. I think he was MUCH happier in the managed foster home. He was a little bit higher functioning than these guys. .... He asked me and the other admins often why he was ever sent to Fairview. I wonder if he ever got an answer.
My Mother and brother worked their also ! perhaps you know them ..Carol Mathews and Brent Mathews .I remember it well and my !other would always take me there on her days off to pop in and visit Fran her manager and for picnics on the lawn I hated going there it was so sad seeing all the handicapped children I just wanted to cry.
Bev Smith people would rather play off bullshit then look into the real thing. my mother worked there right up untill they canned everybody to shut it down. so i know the place pretty well myself. Spent many of nights horsing around in a basement or two, trying to stay occupied while she finished up whatever work she was doing at the time.
You can tell the poor elderly man at the end wanted to get the heck outta there, whatever horror's and abusement that he expierenced has him and most of the other FTC resident's still living quiet to this day
I wonder if they were treated better wherever they ended up,, I wonder if there was a follow up to check on them? were they happier? would love to see a follow up!!!!!!
We were driving by there today and checking it out(from afar as you can't go up there). We didn't know what it was, but were sad to see how it it was/looked. When driving around by the homes, my husband stopped a lady ans asked her what it was. She told us and when we got home I started to research it. Wow.I read a mans posting from when he snuck up there and took pictures. He had a video at the end that the State made. It was sad and you have to wonder how much of the video was just "for show".
Who can someone talk to to get permission to enter the grounds? I'm interested in taking some photos in a very respectful, documentary style. I assume this visit of former residents was arranged with whoever manages the property?
I do believe they are leveling all of this. That was their plan at least 3 years ago. It was a black mark on Oregon's history and they are trying to wipe it away.
great video... California has a movement to close our remaining developmental centers. check out movethemout . org it is a great testimate to the hard work of your community to find community living options for Fairview residents
Just recently they tore down the buildings. Thank you for recording this so I can see what it looks like.
Thank you for reminding former patients the past horrors of their lives. That was really nice of you!
Is that a back-handed compliment? We meant no harm in our re-visitation 7 years ago.

God bless there souls I hope, pray and wish the best for them.
I hate to nick pick, but I worked at Fairview Training Center until 1999. It wasn't totally closed yet when I left. It was NOT closed in the 1980's.

@@WesternStarproductions I remember Fran!!! I was a float nurse for 4 buildings there!
Great place to work...these videos are highly biased.

Or maybe he just really had to change his adult diapers. He was 'feeble minded', after all.

There's bodies buried all over those grounds.
fairview did not close until February of 2000, so I am guessing you meant to say since they left fairview in the early 80's.
Working "now" that just sounds off to me. Poor ppl.

@@mandys6186 it’s not a “black mark” in my mind. I worked there as a nurse for over a decade. When I was there it was a great place to be.
