I hope the actual show shows the sexual and physical abuse, the neglect, starvation, tieing people to beds, bribing them with cigarettes, having disabled residents care for the children, the babies who were born out of the workers raping residents, the cemeteries with names like “John Davis number 8” with no birth dates. The truth of these places was torture. “They we’re trying their best” is bullshit. Doing as they were told even if they knew it was wrong is more like it. This preview makes it seem like it was just a nursing home. Let’s not change history and instead educate so it doesn’t happen again. I spent years of my life working with the people who came out of these hellholes and it is disgusting to even have a preview like this that pretends those places were anything but Hell on Earth.
There is much said just like this statement but as a care giver of1 7 years I have to ask What have you done? Have you ever done this type of work? Are you going to? Will you pay more insurance and taxes for someone else to? Not saying any of the the things we’ve heard or know to be true as ghastly as that may be have not happened but what we’re they to do? And what is the answer now?
This breaks my heart. I went there with one of my best friends back in 2018. We explored what was then the last of what stood. It's all.gone now, though. Sad, solemn energy. The basement was negative... Very interesting but heart breaking to say the least.
These institutions still exist in Europe, Asia, etc. Many adopt these kids who have disabilities and are trapped in institutions. Check out Reece’s Rainbow. I’m so glad this documentary was made. It’s important that we continue to learn from our past, whatever it is, never turning an ignorant eye to it, especially when it’s difficult.
this government is so awful. Most people cant handle positions of power and no one ever will be able to handle having full control over another's life regardless of the circumstances.
Hillcrest youth prison would send prisoners there for "health care "that place was freaky. Went twice while incarcerated at Hillcrest youth prison 1996 1997
The State Hospital which still exists is still no better. Fairview was a really evil place. Now they have homes and a park there. You cannot pay me enough to live on that land.
Missed opportunity , the State claimed the land would be developed for housing and that would bring in tax dollars. At the same time the VA was looking where to place it new facilities. Fairview had a Well staffed hospital ,( heart specialist Dr.) school, a gym, large pool, wading pool, hydro pools, therapy building, equipment making/ sewing shops , green houses, apartments, houses on the hill, water tower and systems, broiler rooms, huge dinning hall and kitchen. Some of the building had full kitchens and some not. Large barns, large wood shop, recycle center,. Work voc areas and administration building and the Original home of the Owners that deeded the land in a 99 year trust with the state . Do not believe it was bought at all by the state. At one time the estate was close to 3,600 acers, found one pamphlet saying twice that in the 40s. The prisons, and reform school and the college and great deal of the housing around was part of this estate. Missed opportunity before becoming delect would have been a great place for training, therapy specialist, Docs and treatments for the handicap and vets. Housing for Aids and such, certain cases , vacation and medicine stabilizing housing etc. This facility had up grades before being shut down. There was only a couple of buildings that could not be okay after the earth quake.

Families didn't agree , quite often they were coerced to put their kids there.
