  • May is motorcycle safety month and when the warm weather finally arrives, there will be motorcycles all around in Milwaukee, home of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. The Milwaukee Police Department's Motorcycle Unit is out, as well. As one of few police departments nationwide that has been exclusively riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles for 102 years, Chief Flynn was joined for his hallmark Roll Call in the Street, by Bill Davidson, vice president of the Harley-Davidson Museum, and Willie G. Davidson as the Chief conducted Roll Call for MPD motorcycle officers. Watch the video and feel like you were there!
About 30 Milwaukee Police motorcycle officers rode in formation into the Museum parking lot and lined up for roll call by Chief Flynn. They stood at attention for inspection of the troops by MPD commanders, joined by Bill Davidson and Willie G. Additionally, Bill Davidson addressed the officers before they were dismissed to hit the streets for patrol.
The motorcycle unit has changed focus under Chief Flynn. The motorcycles, previously used almost exclusively for traffic enforcement, are now a key to the department's strategy to reduce crime, fear and disorder in the city's challenged neighborhoods. These officers make traffic stops in the city's "hotspots" and have taken guns, drugs and dangerous criminals off the streets.
