Oof, right in the nostalgia.
This was the peak of DotA man. Dota 2 is fun and all, played it for a decade, might play it still, but wc3 DotA remains my second favorite game of all time. So many great memories. Heroes having actual names. The sounds. The loading screens. Reading patch logs on Playdota like you're studying nuclear blueprints. Playing on Garena because nobody had an actual bought copy of WC3. Being able to play with people vastly more and less skilled than you (mmr is the enemy of fun). Invading other countries' rooms to see who's best. WE ARE ELECTRIC (if you know, you know). Hoping people won't leave when your team is owning. Having epic 2v5 and 3v5 wins. The sense of accomplishment when all 10 players stay till the end and you win a 90min match. The absolute freedom to say anything that might tilt the opposing team. Being threatened with all kinds of illegal things on a daily basis. Good times.
nostalgia is really the word here because playing an actual game of dota in dota 1 involved more hoops and hurdles than a track meet.
@@user-hp4nk6tt8r I watched someone get banlisted for giving first blood. It wasn't even a dumb "lol I can 1v5 at level one jajajajaaa!" first blood but a "Four players showed up to bot lane to gank two players."
There's a lot of good memories and then there's "Guy traps his team in the woods 40 minutes into the game."
God damn... "we are electric" sent me back to 2010. Good memories...
yeah, garena was great, i played so many good matches there, and crushed so many people in all kinds of map, including melee games. Garena was the best, or at least better than blizz's bnet.
Man, what years would it have been that you're talking about? WC3 was the first online game I ever played-- I would have been 9-11 years old or so. I remember playing DotA but definitely not one of my favorites, and I never really got into it. WoW came out in November 2004 and while I did pick up WC3 again a couple times after that, I was pretty much done, and definitely never got involved in the DotA scene. I think I went back to WC3 in between vanilla and BC WoW and most the damn custom games were DotA so I'm guessing 2006-2008 were the glory days?
miss those days so much. Dota2 can't touch DotA Allstars' atmosphere and feeling
Modern Dota 2? Yeah. Early 2011-2014 Dota? Very arguable. I'm both very nostalgic towards Allstars and early Dota 2.

dota 1 days were the best gaming days of my life. We would go to cyber cafe's and play 5v5 with total strangers and even have friendly banter . Dota 2 really changed dota for me. We use to play dota solely for fun but after dota 2 came, every one started grinding mmr and 5v5 lan was so hard to get.
Feel you.. brotherhood lost when dota 2 appeared.. no more lan, no more meet ups
@@johnypelaez172it still existed though, Dota 2 has LAN and you could do meetups. is just that the game had now a rank internet hosted game overall and it was more dificult to do meetups.
However in my case most of LAN meetings I did actually experienced in Dota 2 since internet was almost not existsnt on my country.
In summary: Dota 2 still had all that, just forget about the internet.
it's crazy how the warcraft 3 world editor basically created a whole new genre of games with MOBA but also TD
Tower Defense games were my fucking favorite. I swear, TD is still a wide open, unexplored market for big game companies. If Blizzard made a TD game I might have a stroke
Actually, it was Starcraft. But popularized in WC3.
War3 had some crazy good TD's maps, like sending units to the enemies in 4v4 game, and many different characters to pick, it was very tactical and fun. Also Warlocks, Castle Fight, and Bleach vs One Piece were my favorites.
World editor is the greatest thing on W3 back then i use to custom hero on certain map give them broken spell like dark portal and rain of chaos, fun times
some standalones tower defenses from wc3 on steam are legion td 2 and element td both are pretty fun, also still lots of people playing on wc3
Frozen Throne battle net era was one of my most memorable experiences as a kid. all the minigames you could play with random people were hilariously fun, my favourite was RKR. this video hits that nostalgia man.

Very fun to see Dota as it was during TI2. Everything is almost exactly the same in Dota 2 at the time except some very obscure mechanics that most would call bugs. Its crazy how nostalgic it is to see the old item icons like that I can recognize and remember everything even tho this is basically the first time I see WC3 Dota content since I last played it more than 12 years ago.
Just realized, creep death sounds makes a HUGE difference for immersion. o.O

@@viresinnumeris7755Unfortunately not due to copyright probably. Otherwise, the heroes in DotA 2 would have remained faithful to the models of DotA 1 as their default skins.
There is Dota 1 and then there is pre-Dota 1. Back in those days, it was Dota and Tide of Bloods.
And Dota had Balanar (aka Night Stalker) as the secret hero.
To me, Dota in those days were much more fun, strategic and tactical. Towers don't go down like a fly, last hits were really important in collecting money, and it took skills to complete the game. Down side was that it took 2 hours minimum.
And it was always a shitshow 4vs3 because of dc's

I remember playing a early version of Dota on Warcraft 3 ft. Wish I could have those times back. Also Footman Frenzy, Evolves etc just so good memories.
I remember stating quite confidently in 2005 than Dota will lose in popularity against other "better" AOS game modes (aeon of strife, it's what we used to call these types of maps before LoL told us it's actually a "moba" now)
Nostalgia... I played it in LAN 90% all the time. 20 years ago, 5v5, 4v4, 3v3marathons and tournaments in a cafe internet, it was (is) very addictive, a very good job from Ice Frog !!
I feel like Grubb lost all of his DOTA/WC3 IQ immediately after loading into the game haha. The manual clicking/item delivering with the courier was painful to see. Chat should've rioted harder
This was a truely magical time for me. Playing DotA 2 with friends, after getting a key. Staying up all night to watch TI2. Watching "WE ARE ELECTRIC!" top 10 plays every week..
I miss wodota
DOTA1 maps are still being developed for RGC and Atinad clients. To this day. I don't know what goes on official blizzard Warcraft 3. They have features like: Zoom close and really far, Quickcast, integrated Keybind options for the whole keyboard, RANGE indicators for towers and for Neutral camps, Health and mana bar options. And many more that i haven't tried.
My most played game in my gaming history, i spend around 15 years playing it and then 5 more playing HeroesOfNewEarth, since it was much closer to it then Dota 2. Brings back some cool memories. :)
I had the same gaming route. HoN is much closer to original than Dota2.
This dota1/dota2 version in late 2012 is my favorite dota version ever
New dota2 with neutral items dropping randomly from neutrals just feels wrong. Everything should be based around gold, not random drops. New map not as good as dota1 & early dota2
That was rough lol. I feel like somehow mixing WC3 graphics with dota broke Grubby's brain. Like staying in lane against a ranged hero that is hitting you when you have 30 hp is bad regardless of what the graphics look like lmao
At least he finally plays it lol. The amount of good times i've had with this game, i can't say. I've started back on Dota 2.17 and played the game mode for around 9-10years until Eul,Guinsoo and Icefrog decided to leave and make LoL and Dota2. Although, my friends and i, we still play Dota 1 during lan nights that we tend to try and organise once a year 🤣

The old school DotA is actually the only version I would play, Dota 2 is aesthetically very non-pleasing to me. I also dislike the talent / item system in Dota 2.

I liked the diffu on gyro, as if it was ti 9(?) again with topson gyro vs nigma. Also if anybody wonders why they tell you to upgrade diffu into manta, that's just old dota 1 stuff. That used to be the recipe for making manta lol

DotA in Warcraft 3 Reign of Chaos versions 3.7-3.9 and DH (DanitesHell, randomised skills) completely consumed my life during my school years. Good memories.

damn this brings me back I used to play a naruto dota clone as well as the classics like dota (I preferred all mid)
Nostagia. Used to play this with friends in the WWIII client. It was a time when we actually get together with friends with computers all connected in local network to play dota and other custom maps that were as equally good for that time.
Grubby, you are undeniably the best player I've had the pleasure of watching in your Warcraft replays from years ago, and your ability to consistently entertain is simply remarkable

I remember even after Dota 2 has been out for awhile, I still play Dota 1 for a few years until all of my friends transitioned to 2 that I had to play 2 as well, I almost forget how chaotic it was for 1, DC happens almost every match, skill difference/smurfing is so normalized that newbies gameply is actually rng if there's a smurf on their team, chat toxicity is off the roof, and heroes were vastly imbalanced, what also struck me is the amount of players who quit instantly upon their first death with no penalty whatsoever because we all play on garena XD
Anyone remember Aeon of the Six Gods? Similar to DotA but different enough to be unique. That was a fun game. I think it should be revived.
Helm of dominator was my favorite carry item, u can make stacks and have great sustain

Man it's been really long time since I played that custom map. Didn't it involve sunken colonies/creep as your zones and I think marines as your means of combat?
@VanRukh yes it was marines and torrents and the mote zones u controlled the more it produced...and u could get specially weapons like flamethrower and tanks and whoever has the most zones at the end won...I still think that zone control game was better/more fun then actually game play

Oh gawd the nostalgia, I used to play this in net cafes and online on Gerena.
It kinda makes me sad how I miss these days.
Man the dynamic health bar colours are blowing my mind. I can't believe this was the way I used to play Warcraft 3. Confusing as hell. I remember when League of Legends first came out, the green(ally)/red(enemy) hp bar system took some getting used to initially.

One thing D2 should brought back from dota 1 is the aghs visuals. When you buy aghs, heroes would have certain equipment glow

Hey Grubby! Forever fan, long time sub and fly on the wall. Congrats on your much deserved recognition! I'm guessing you don't know this, but there is a much older "Dota 1" and it was from RoC. The version I played way back in the day was something like 3.0 and it was by Eul. It didn't become the TFT version that most players know and love until much later. There was another version called Danite's Hell (Dota DH) which was another version of Eul's map with random abilities for each hero. it was so much fun! It seems to have been mostly forgotten and I used to tell people, no Dota did not come from TFT lol. I always wanted someone to find and play those old forgotten versions. I figured you might one of the few who could even pull it off these day. Truth be told, they were nowhere near as thrilling and action packed as the later TFT versions. They were more of a long play base race. Once a building was destroyed, the creeps spawning from it stopped. Heroes were harder to take down too. But again, going back to my wall :) carry on with your marvelous entertainment, sir!

@@ryanshaw9301 there were lots of different devs, Icefrog just created the Best version, "All-stars" which included cool things from everything
@@ryanshaw9301he just took it over. Idk if eul created it but his name was on. The ROC version, then it was ginsoo and others who ported it to TFT with all stars where the modern dota "all stars" was born. Ice frog basically took over what was for me a pretty finished product. It's all timing. Ice frogs name was on it when they it blew up.

This is Dota allstars grubby not Dota 1. Dota 1 was on reign of chaos and had only 6 hero’s, one of them was Riki, he was a red in colour, and placed mines like techies.
The struggle for looking for the item name and sharing the carrier gives me painful flashbacks HAHA
