I just replaced mine on a 320d n47 (same breather as in the video) with 230 000 km on the clock. It was in perfect condition. No need to replace but hey, now I'm sure it's still in good condition.
@@GeorgeAusters to be honest i was expecting something else... Especially because it was the original one, it has about 12 years on the car and quite a mileage on it... The rubber was very strong to resist in time. It looks like it is preserved by the fuel that comes in contact with.
I have the same engine and I planing to change it also because I have a lot of blow by pressure but with out any leaks of oil or smoke do you think it will reduce the blow by pressure?

I have a 123d and was told that I needed to replace the crank case breather pipe and the filter however I can't seem to find the filter. Do the 123d engines use this valve instead? It is an Msport
It need replacing if you see more oil on crankcase breather tube than usual. Also it is a good idea to change it if your car is 6-7 years old - it's a lifetime for rubber parts
Thank you. Usually, know the pcv valves are integrated with a cover which sucks. My car has a cover of this type like yours which made me very happy when I found your video. Let me ask you? Have you decided to change pcv to find out how it has to be done or your vehicle had some symptoms like oil in the pipe going from the bottom of the engine to the air filter housing?
Hi gerorge I’m gonna do this job. When looking for the breather Online I’m seeing the whole kind of system I think that the breather attaches too? Is it worth replacing the whole lot ? Cheers
Its the next thing i got to do on my m47 as im sure its not been changed in a while as i found oil/diesel in the boost pipes when i did the EGR delete or worst case turbo :/
It's a much bigger job on an M47 mate. Not difficult but lots of covers and parts to come off to get to it. I miss my M47 - 200k miles and it was absolutely rock solid, smooth and I honestly felt like it would do another 200k easily. Unlike my (admittedly nice) N57 which has a weedy timing chain in comparison!
It makes a whistle spund when you let go off the throttle and the car runs rough and slow due to pressure build up in the engine cos its blocked or clogged or closed at times. And when you come to a stop your idle will be violently going up and down shaking the engine badly also. Especially for a automatic car. Turn off the car and turn it on again and it usually disappears but better get it fixed by a new valve cover.
Hi, My bmw E83 crankcase vent valve went bad with pressure in engine & blow out my valve cover gasket. Do you think it could have damage any other seals?
Bloody good videos and have watched most of yours. Have you considered installing an oil catch can to reduce the amount of oil vapor making its way onto the intake?
I was looking at a catch can a while ago (N57 engine). Good ones seem to be quite expenaive but they do catch more water/oil and can easily be drained. The thing that put me off was finding one that had the specific pipes and hoses to fit properly in the engine bay.
What are the main issues when the valve doesn't work properly that means when the spring is broken and/or the rubber disc has a hole? I opened my cover (E83 LCI -08, n47, and didn't recognize any changes after 200,000 km (?), so I put the spring, rubber disc and cover back. But I changed the O-ring in the hose (upper end). The hose is "integrated" with a heating element, so it all costs about 65€, instead of circa 10€...
