Thanks Tom. Always informative. As a former owner of many Mustangs, I am glad to see more tech and clear huge upgrades to the interior. However, it is going to take a bit of getting used to the 'angularity' of the exterior of this iteration. For me, it looks more Camaro like now, not Mustang like, IMHO. The nice thing about the former models was that they had a more Euro GT look. Now, it's all about the aggression. We'll see.
Liking the exterior, though I'm not sure about the furrowed tail light strip. I really can't stand that dash. You want to put in screens, cool beans, but take some more effort to design something that fits and feels integrated, rather than it looking like two iPads hot-glued to the dash.
Thank you Tom! The exterior looks amazing, although I really hoped they would have shortened the nose a bit. I feel like I’m piloting a carrier whenever I drive one of these. The Ipad looking dash set up, make this 7th gen Mustang a total deal breaker for me.
As a current ‘21 Mustang EcoBoost owner..I’m quite excited! I feel the current interiors were a *touch* outdated. This is definitely intriguing for when I’ll be ready for an upgrade.
The center of the steering wheel looks like it’s right off the Bronco. Why are they using the same shift knob from the last gen Mustang? The seats look the same as the ones I have now but they aren’t bad. If I can get a Dark Horse for msrp I would consider it but otherwise I’ll keep my 2016 Mustang GT.
I like that it is evolutionary because imho, the current gen Mustang is the best looking since the thing came out in 1964. The "moar skreenz!" treatment inside is unavoidable I guess; don't love it but at least it mimics the look in Benz and BMW instead of ugly tacked on iPad look which I despise.
I’ve got a question: why would Ford provide this preview so many months away from delivery? Wouldn’t it maybe cause people to stop buying the current model? I would think a 1-2 month lead time would be better, but I’m probably missing something.
It might make people buy up the current model! There may be many people (I'm one of them) who think the current model looks better than this 2024 model - well, I do like what Ford has done to rear of the car. It's the proportions of the front grill and intakes that I don't like.
In my oprinion, Ford has produced a tastefully done revision of a classic muscle car, while upgrading key features such as the interior, which in prior generations was terrible. Nicely done.
It's a no from me. Thanks for the V8 and the manual for the enthusiasts, but I'm glad I ordered the S550 this year. This reminds me more of the Mach e when it comes to the optics and displays..
I guess I'm a Luddite...was stoked that you can get a V8/manual combo and the exterior styling wasn't half bad but as soon as I saw that ginormous digital cockpit I was totally turned off
Now this is sharp, more easy on the eyes than the eagle eyed one. I hope we get cool features, like a power folding roof, adaptive suspension, and who knows what else.
They should make an AWD version as well…so you could drive the damn thing year round…a high-powered front engine rear-wheel drive car is more of a murder weapon than a car, in the snow and wet…
Why should it be hybrid make the car more expensive and heavier. Electric not charging large infrastructure. Its a car of needs today. Not 20 30 years in the future.
I own a velocity blue 2019 gt. Maybe it's first sight, but I prefer the current front and actually prefer the Ecoboost front end treatment on this new over the GT. The GT looks blocked and busy.
Not to sound like an old man, but maybe this shows that automotive media shouldn’t believe every rumor they hear and just write about actual things to be true. Because, now, the first thing I hear or read about the 2024 Mustang is how it’s not electric.
I'm a hard pass right now with 2 giant rectangles and lack of physical controls. I know this be around for nearly a decade and changes will be made (maybe). The reving key fob sounds annoying, car shows and every parking garage. The locked PCM with over the air updates kills my interest too. I'm cool with updates to infotainment but whole car not so much, it screams subscription services to me. I like rebuilding motors as a hobby, making it faster and tuning it as I have done for 25 years.
Has the scale of this thing grown, a la Camaro? In some of the shots it looks huge. Something about that huge video-screen dash looks more family car and less sports car.
Refresh. Same platform. Same engines. Same car basically, just dressed up. So Tom, it is not that “ford is carrying the torch”, it is actually ford milking the last drops of cash from the current gen, because they dont wanna develop a real new gen. They dont give a darn about their fans, who are nothing but dollar signs to ford lol…
When Toyota does that no one says anything. I'm not sure how much the chassis and architecture has been changed, have to wait t talk to engineers at the event. If they didn't give a damn, there's wouldn't be a new one. Automakers are all about money. Without it, they couldn't make cars.
*Yeah those seat belts will cost about 600 in a porsche. But it is a Porsche. This is a ford - have you driven a ford mustang for over 3 years? I have. Twice (2+2 years in a GT and then a GT350). And I swore I will never own another ford car ever again in my life. The quality is borderline laughable. And you know Long term reliability is a joke when door handles start malfunctioning after just a year. So OF COURSE they MUST dress up those seatbelts! Because it is a ford. At least the outgoing model had way better looking taillights than these childish ones on the 24 model.*
Not sleek or svelte offering in the least I agree. Chevy Camaro if they still make cars over at Chevy anymore definitely a big winner in the *"tighten 'er up!"* design language properly expressed going on forever now.
I test drove a 2017 Mustang GT Premium with a stick earlier this year. Felt like sitting behind a 500 pound lump of lead in a hard plastic box, the seats were very comfortable but that’s about the nicest thing I can say about it in city traffic. As a person who uses his car as a commuter in a lot of stop-and-go urban traffic, the apparent interior upgrade is a huge win, maybe tempting me out of my GTI. Not sure about the styling yet but I imagine it’ll grow on me. I hope the EcoBoost is as well reviewed as the last one was.
What a disappointment. It’s basically a S550 with slapped on sheet metal & interior refresh. Zero innovation with the drivetrain leaving the S650 looking stale and boring compared to the forthcoming Dodge Daytona Banshee.
I'm sorry. I stopped watching almost immediately after you mentioned being able to rev the engine with the key fob. I love your work, Tom. I just refuse to embrace the ever-increasing stupidity of the marketing "brain trust". The fit and finish of Ford and especially, Lincoln, has been so poor for so many years that I have completely lost interest in most or all of their products. Now this? No thank you. There are better choices out there.
I tuned out when I saw ipads instead of the instruments. After all this is Mustang, not DeLorean or Nissan GTR. Horrible! Just horrible, especially on a gasoline-only car with a stick.
@@TinLeadHammer I do understand why they are doing that but I don't have to agree with it, either. One of the most significant costs of manufacturing cars is tooling. Especially if you can't share that cost with more than one model. Using the same digital displays and simply rewriting the software saves a lot of money. In theory. I think engineers, accountants and managers have become obsessed with gadgetry, Easter Eggs and frivolous options as drivetrains, chassis and fuel mileage are nearly identical across the industry.
"Ford says research shows moving common controls to a screen is a good idea" That's a little less credible than when my mom tells me I'm still very handsome despite my male pattern baldness and bulging pear shape. In other words- We're going to need to see this "research".
As always Tom, thank you for your mature but not boring reviews…have enjoyed your reviews since your days with the NYT’s. Great job.
Why get rid of the main physical buttons??

This also annoys me. Must be cool to go through several menus to turn on the AC..

looks like a Camaro
Thank you Tom
Remote Rev is reserved for the Mustang owners leaving cars & coffee without the fear of losing control and hitting something or someone.
Here's an idea: drive like a grownup. Like a responsible adult.
It's not only a mustang tho also charger and challenger owners. I think the camaro guys are grown ups.
There's one we haven't heard before (yawn)

Imagine an all wheel drive Mustang. Now that would be cool.
This will look so good in white with red interior
Nicely put together, Tom. Thanks!
Thanks Tom!
The recalls will be starting from day 1 it goes live.
Thanks, Tom! 👏🏻
As a current ‘21 Mustang EcoBoost owner..I’m quite excited! I feel the current interiors were a *touch* outdated. This is definitely intriguing for when I’ll be ready for an upgrade.
I really like the new looks of this car. That profile is sweet!
Looks like a winner to me...OK, a little Camaro is thrown in but overall nice!
Nice video 📹
Competing designs?.. no, Ford must've said nah we'll sell them the super cool one later!!
the screen is ridiculous.😬
Nice presentation Tom. That background soundtrack near the end of the video - could you please point me to it - if possible. Cheers!

I wish they used the 7 speed dct from gt500.
I like it but would prefer a hybrid
Ford can barely support an ICE engine, much less a hybrid.
Sad that it has no physical Hvac buttons.
LOL, the dash looks like something you find on a future bus/van,

Wait, so is this completely new or a heavy refresh?
Refresh. Same platform. Same engines. Same car basically, just dressed up.
I might trade in my '18 Performance Pack for one of these but I will have to see it in person next spring to decide.
Smart. Always decide in person.

Exterior is good, but the interior is awful with that dopey screen stuck on top. Ford should have made some effort to integrate it into the dash.
Last gen looked like a BMW. This one looks like a Camaro. Kinda feels like they've run out of design ideas.
Still an all around great car
V8 and a manual? Thank you ford
Just looking at the body design suggests that blind spots will be redonkulous.
Nice job on USB port placement.
I’ve got a question: why would Ford provide this preview so many months away from delivery? Wouldn’t it maybe cause people to stop buying the current model? I would think a 1-2 month lead time would be better, but I’m probably missing something.
Current car is probably sold out, or close to it.

Great on Ford for getting the looks on point and better than previous model. GM went the other way with Camaro and Corvette already very dated.
Where's the fog lights!??
Thank you Tom. You are my favorite.
Will you be doing a giveaway of this car to one lucky fan? 🚙
As soon as I hit a million subs.

thank your mom
"...SO, start SAVING NOW!' for the mid-2023 drop date.
for 5 days discussing 2024 for mustang a lot... steady
No manual for the eco. Thats kind of weak. I kind of enjoyed mine with a row your own.
In my oprinion, Ford has produced a tastefully done revision of a classic muscle car, while upgrading key features such as the interior, which in prior generations was terrible. Nicely done.
I’ve had a Fox body, SN95, and S197 Mustangs. They just keep on getting bigger and more complicated, don’t they?
no
Will there be a 2023 Mustang or are they skipping that model year by introducing this series as a 2024?
It's a no from me. Thanks for the V8 and the manual for the enthusiasts, but I'm glad I ordered the S550 this year.

They were starting to look too much like a Lexus than a sports car. I'm liking this one better.
It never was a sports car.
Looks less aggressive to me? Anyone else?
Pristine Edge
I wonder what the intersection of golf players and Mustang buyers is.
Measuring the trunk in golf bags may not be useful to most buyers.
Now this is sharp, more easy on the eyes than the eagle eyed one. I hope we get cool features, like a power folding roof, adaptive suspension, and who knows what else.
Disappointing first impression. Will have to see more before deciding weather to wait, or go with a 2023.
They should make an AWD version as well…so you could drive the damn thing year round…a high-powered front engine rear-wheel drive car is more of a murder weapon than a car, in the snow and wet…
Studded winter tires. You’re welcome.
AWD is only safest if you have the right tires tho

Agreed.
Ford calls the remote engine rev feature the "douche fob"
Looking forward to seeing a million of these every day on the road in 2023!!
Mustangs have never sold millions.

Ford plans on making Mustang electric only in 2028.

Pretty much the same size according to Ford.
They literally copied the hood from the latest Camaro SS
There’s something off with the rear. I get this Hyundai Elantra vibe from that ducktail cut. The profile is sharp, and I like the interior.
Right on. Because this gen is designed by a korean who worked for hyundai.
Not liking the way that Ford is pushing the novelty features for the ICE. Getting tired of hearing about ICE only vehicles...
Fantastic job on this preview Tom. I'm digging the aggressive, more angular body style, especially up front. Not sure about that interior though.
👍
A shame you couldn’t be in Detroit for a live report. This is just reading the Ford press release. 🙄
Really?.... Ok V8 perfect! but design...i don't know why, but it reminds me of ....front Audi? and interior panel, dashboard bmw?

seems like Ford can't do timeless Mustang designs circa 80s. They all look good/decent when released but look very dated in about a decade.
Clutter and buzz, but obsolete 😢

While I understand the quality and drivability advantage of the German, I doubt the seatbelts in the Porsche have anything on the Ford.
I absolutely love the digital cockpit. The previous interior was unbearably outdated.

review is really nice but not the car for not having an economical electric option.... may be wait till it's near electric or electric...
I think it would be very difficult to electrify this platform
Why must every car be electric? Why must the mustang be electric?
Same approach as Rolls Royce, no compromise: either 100% ICE or 100% electric. Nothing in between.
