Any tips for getting this free flowing with sound selection and decisions? I get SO caught up in making 1 sound so all the work or be perfect that seeing THIS many layers feels like so much to me, I have some good mechanical ability with my daw and plug-in knowledge but can’t get this deep into production without getting stuck on sounds and getting bored of a track before I just go next (started producing 3 months ago)
Here's two tips that can help you 1st when layering sounds like leads bass chords or whatever build each layer with the full mix playing instead of soloed this way you’ll immediately hear how it fits with the rest of the track. If you layer sounds in solo you can waste 5-10 minutes or even more on something that doesn’t work when it’s added to the full mix By creating in context you’re building a balanced sound right from the start 2nd don’t stress about designing every sound from scratch using presets from soundbanks or splice will save you loads of time and help you get a feel for what works and when you wanna improve your skills you can dive into sound design but presets are a big time-saver And only in three months, being comfortable with your daw and plugins is awesome progress I was just messing with stock FLPs thinking I was DJ Mag #1 but jokes aside Check out layering tutorials on RUclips too they can help you understand how to layer sound more in depth and also better than me hope that helps and if you still have some questions feel free to ask
Use your chords as ghost notes to guide you, then come up with a rhythm Try repeating a few notes in consecutive bars if that makes sense for example I repeat the first bar's melody in the third bar and change a few notes for variation that’s all But you’ll need to practice and spend time creating a good melody
I must say, I'm impressed for a tutorial like this & that too coming from a country like India! Keep the great work up man.
