This actress does a fairly decent job playing 'Mrs. Stevenson', but no one but Agnes Moorehead could provide just the right combination of loneliness, desperation, rage and terror. This is the play that led the producers of SUSPENSE to dub Moorehead 'The First Lady of Suspense' and ask her to repeat the part live on five different occasions. SUSPENSE broadcast the story seven times over its' twenty year run. All starred Agnes Moorehead and all - except one - were done live. She appeared numerous times on SUSPENSE, often playing shrewish women. The play 'Don't Call Me Mother' gives her the chance to give an especially vicious, nearly venomous performance.

Three hours later, they performed a second show done live for the West. It made a rather long, grueling day. It's long, There was a rather long, convoluted reason why it was done this way, but. I couldn't possibly explain it here. Radio is usually its own worst enemy.
An example of how convoluted radio can be, once while I was on the air, our program director into the studio and came me a manual 100 pages long of the SIMPLIFIED version of the FCC regs and then turned around and he left. I was so happy when that guy was replaced. He was a real SOB

    • @adamantman3200

@@sophiahernando2303 In 1948 PARAMOUNT released a version starring Barbara Stanwyck who played the woman. They offered Agnes Moorehead a minor part, which she refused. I don't blame her. Stanwick was young and beautiful and Moorehead was not.
It totally changed the premise of the story. Instead of old bag flipping the way hell out out, as writer Lucille Fletcher intended, you get 'damsel in distress' from Stanwyck.
In the original, you're rooting for the killers, but in the Stanwyck version you get 'who could possibly kill our Babs?' Who'd want to harm a sweet as sugar, hot wife like Babs?!
