  • In studio rehearsal of Black Swan! I always get so nervous for studio run throughs in front of all my colleagues, but the best part is hearing their reactions and feeling all the love and support.

    Such control on those turns landing on the knee, esp pointing upstage as if introducing or welcoming Odile. Lovely finish to the fouettes for Isabella (plus the last time I saw her, she was only doing singles). Thx for posting!

    How is ballet not an olympic sport? The athleticism, the artistry, the everything!

    • @erisaphrodite
      @erisaphrodite 3 года назад +29

      I think it would be hard for it to be an Olympic sport cause’ many people don’t understand ballet. They want to scream and feel their adrenaline rise, while ballet is slick and beautiful and made for a calm and understated crowd. I think ballet surpasses the Olympic sports. :)

    • @naomihonda7479

      @@naomihonda7479 I was half kidding. Then explain ice dancing or gymnastics as an Olympic sport? That’s not artistry too?

      @@erisaphrodite no one screams from the audience watching ice skating or gymnastics floor routines either tho

    • @noblesetsentimentales
      @noblesetsentimentales 3 года назад +10

      @@katgiu4235 Ballet is classical theatrical dancing. It's opera's sister art, but instead of through recitative and arias, expression is conveyed through movement and gesture. It's physically demanding, but it's not physicality for its own sake, and music is not an incidental accompaniment to a series of tricks; the choreography _is_ the music.
      Anyway, when people say ballet is not a sport, they aren't saying ballet is easy or that dancers are not hard workers--because they are tough as athletes--but if approached as a sport ballet becomes a distortion. And dangerous.

    Okay I’m not a dancer, I am a musician, so I don’t know much about dance. I know there are different styles in ballet (Russian, French, etc) but I don’t really know technique, and certainly can’t perform a fouetté. All I know is that Isabella’s fouettés are the most visually stunning to me, by far.

    I love this coda, but if I would change one thing, it would be the hopping on one leg at the end. I think it could be switched for something more graceful.
    ABT does not use the jester, so I know they like to get rid of silly parts ;)

    does it hurt every time you have to go en pointe for a turn, or does the pain just go away once you reach your level?

    • @oliviaballentine8853
      @oliviaballentine8853 3 года назад +3

      Im not a professional like her, but I’ve been on pointe for almost four years. For me after like a really long class it does start to hurt but if you have the right padding (toe pads) or tape then it doesn’t hurt every time.

    • @mathildewesendonck7225
      @mathildewesendonck7225 3 года назад +3

      For me it does hurt when I get tired, because then I start to „jump“ on pointe and that doesn‘t feel nice on my toes 😕 (usually you pull up your heel through demi pointe, but you can sometimes see ballerinas how they start „hopping“ and traveling on pointe towards the end of the fouettés because it’s so exhausting)
      Hops on pointe can hurt and also long bourree sections, the rest isn‘t too bad for me

    Sorry guys, but just watch Svetlana Zakharova and Roberto Bolle in the same role, then you will understand the differences between training at the ABT and being a dancer at the Marinsky and trained at the Vaganova. In my opinion the training and technique taught at the Vaganova far exceeds even the Bolshoi
