Bad ass bro. I just have to ask what camera you shooting with now that quality is awesome. Every time I watch one of your videos I just want to go weld something.
I can't tell the make and model from the video but I have taught myself mig welding by watching youtube vids and buying the cheapest mig I can find on ebay. I got hold of some scrap steel and just went at it. After a short time you realise the short comings of a super cheap machine and upgrade accordingly.
The fabrication skills and techniques on this build are impressive. Building up the platform inside with the insulation underneath so it isn't compressed is a sharp idea, as is using the lower temp fiberglass around the edges.
well done very nice build. what size crucible is that it looks like a 35A clay/graphite but im not sure, i want to switch from using a fire extinguisher in my crucible. also if anyone decides to build this i would recommend just using an old oil drum it will save you alot of time thats what mine is made of.
This has got to be one of the biggest furnaces I have ever had the pleasure to watch being made. Thank you very much for making this and showing us this video.! All the very best wishes for you and your family for the future.....Phil
Very impressive furnace - I just pour the refractory cement on mine tonight - funny timing - I used ceramic blanket as well but I was told you need to protect it otherwise it will deteriorate quickly - see the burning on the feeding tube when you place 2 or 3 pcs of aluminum. Anyway great build as usual - great editing and music choice, a joy to watch !
Probably because the commercial bender they are using employs dies and rollers to help keep the tube from bending out of plane, whereas their DIY bender did not.
First video I've seen of yours. I've been into metalcasting for shy of a decade at this point. And I subscribe to every decent metalworking channel I can find on YT...so of course, it's only just now recommending this channel to me... God be praised: someone who actually does non-garbage MIG welds on RUclips. I look forward to seeing what else you've got.
+Tim Henderson I'm pretty sure Rockwool is only rated to around 800C... So either it will slowly disintegrate, or they found something else that looks like it. Not sure which...
Like your work, but want to make 2 safety suggestions. First, wear much safer clothing, shoes, face protection, etc., the aluminum (guessing?) is melting at about 1200 degrees F. Second, melt on sand base, not cement. If there is a spill any moisture in the cement will be drawn out and sort of explode throwing hot stuff everywhere. I want you to be around to be able to continue making great videos!
Andrew Wallace it's easy to melt rock once or twice. But it's hard to build a reliable steel melting furnace for hobbyists that wont cost hundreds upon hundreds of dollars.
Awesome!! I've watched a lot of furnace builds, and this one is at the top of the list. One suggestion tho, most have a hole in the bottom in case of crucible failure... or maybe I missed it. Anyway nice job!!
The world needs you...basics,,,liberty for all. Build awesome small wood stoves. High temp efficient burn. They have many some nice ones overseas but not in USA.
yesteeday i'v been thinking of making one but i didn't found any good tutorials.. many thanks to you! i'm going to find everything that i will need and make one. Many thanks!
That welder wearing a singlet must have woken up burnt and sore as fuck, Cool vid, would have liked to see you cast something cool from the molten though
You're "extremely" talented. Great ideas, always loved metal shop when I was a much younger man. You've inspired me to get back into it for my own pleasure.
Hey mate, enjoyed the video as always...was hoping based on the title that you were building one to melt metal, not just aluminium...looking forward to the upgrade. If I can offer a tip, if you are going to be casting aluminium try to stick with melting previously cast aluminium rather than extruded pieces, you will get a better quality casting.
Very few actually try melting steel. As it is "too dangerous" 🙄 it's kinda annoying, people melted steel a long time ago why not with updated furnaces? Completely again with you
I'm going to buy a welding machine because of your videos. I want to learn to weld, at least the basics, and the videos are great inspiration for that.
How about an option where you select which type of music you want it to play? That would be a better idea. I liked the music in this video but there are others where it is annoying.
They never speak so mute the sound and play your own music or just listen to the birds outside the window. :) I like the music, though hehe! Good for melting metal.
Came out cool melting furnace!!! Now open for you a lot of new possibilities, continue in the same spirit man!!! I myself have metalworking workshop, so I understand how much work is behind your every video. Great video and a great channel man.
Awesome work, brethren! I recently made a smaller one with a 15 gal oil drum, but I used perlite/plaster refractory mixture, and it's taking forever to dry the moisture out, so no thorough testing yet...
I love your channel very much, george, I am fascinated by the tools that you create with your imagination and intelligence. I am a tornado and I am 20 years old and I would love to know how you got so much creativity? greetings from Argentina;)
Hello, very nice furnance. PS: If you add to your melted aluminium kitchen salt (in aluminium pipe or foil) and push it to bottom, and put the small wax candle on the surface , you will have much better results. No bubbles in castings.
i dont know if i would call this an EXTREME!! forge but its a pretty damn awesome one, better built and bigger than almost anything you can buy for under 2,000 dollars and it is just cool as hell, me and my friends made one out of a party balloon helium tank and a vacuum motor and we made some aluminum cupcake pan ingots and a big bar that didnt turn out the best but only cause back then it was just a hair dryer and not a big ass vacuum motor that is 10 times better, it works for us and its wood fired so its free, but these guys built an awesome one
I’m working on a similar sized project right now I’m using an old beer keg though I’ve just got the kaowool and satanite and I’ll be putting it together within the next day or so
Is it expensive to always use propane? Or does it last a good while? Also did you use ceramic blanket when filling your furnace? I would really appreciate a response, thanks
when you have skill sets and have a need for some item and you known how to and have the material on hand whither it be used for one time or used daily the ability to use is head to come up with a solution in another words he's independent thinker we need more people like this he's a go get it done guy keep up the good work by the way what country are you in?
Earned my sub with the "Chainsaw angle grinder" but the background music and project for this video just sealed it! Keep up the good work! I know what ill be watching after work for the next few days!
Awesome video but,one thing I don’t understand about these foundry/furnace is how you hook the propane tanks up to them. Does it need to be airtight around the pipe where the propane tank enters?
Subscribed for sure..! Makes my tiny foundry seem like a toy..lol. Anyway, I only do small metal castings, so it meets my needs. A tip...if you don't want to spend money on expensive casting sand, you can make your own. Use fine sand from the beach and let it pass a sieve for further purification. Then add vegetable oil to it so you can form the mold. Old engine oil does it too, but I prefer to think of the environment if possible. I wouldn't recommend welding in bare arms as you did...no matter how hot it is. Those UV rays are the killer...just saying. Now I'll head on to your other videos, I'm already curious.
Love all your videos! Where are you guys located? i noticed most of your work is usually outside, and you don't ever show any wide angle shots. Not being critical, just curious.
Awsome =) Just a note, kaowool (the white insulation) is very cancerogenic and should be coated with something, for example ITC-100 (Also makes the max temp go higher of the furnace, due to radiant heat reflection) =)
I'm thinking about starting a little blacksmithing thing in my garage, I think this monster of a forge could really help things go fast, since you guys are more technical than I am, any suggestion on tools or things I could use to start off with metal working?
DAMN you're good! Very satisfying to watch. I'm researching different smelters for melting down large quantities of copper and came across your video. Granted, my home workshop is bigger than my living room but I don't have as many expensive tools like a plasma cutter. As always, I'll be using repurposed dumpster-diven parts I got laying around
Wow just wow amazing skills and it turned out awesome! But could you reach steel melting temperatures with it ? Or maybe you need a more powerful propane burner ?
+Make it Extreme I've started watching alot of your videos and I'm just curious is your shop in like a scrap yard cause I see machinery and scrap in some of the videos
What brand of metal bender is that? I have a Hossfeld with dies I need to setup one day, but it takes up tons of room which I don't have. A smaller bench unit like that would be nice.

Bad ass bro. I just have to ask what camera you shooting with now that quality is awesome. Every time I watch one of your videos I just want to go weld something.
Thank you dude! :) Is Nikon D5500
Make it Extreme That's the one I have. What lens are you using. Are you using the kit lens?
Is AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm... But i change little the quality on my program. 30% more sharpness
o ok Thank you. Looks great man,
+Make it Extreme seriously that welding was amazing.

If these videos have taught me anything, it's that I need to learn to weld.
and buy a proper welding machine :D
Any guess as to the make and model he uses?
Ashley Mills no idea. I don't even know where these guys are from :o
I can't tell the make and model from the video but I have taught myself mig welding by watching youtube vids and buying the cheapest mig I can find on ebay. I got hold of some scrap steel and just went at it. After a short time you realise the short comings of a super cheap machine and upgrade accordingly.
DO IT! just buy a cheap welder stick or mig and just have at it. It is not that hard (as long as you are not expecting pretty) and super fun
I don't know why but these type of videos makes ASMR effect on me. Great job. Thanks for sharing though.
Great work as always! It swallows metal like butter! Can't wait to watch a few extreme casting projects from you in future!
Thank you my friend! :)
The fabrication skills and techniques on this build are impressive. Building up the platform inside with the insulation underneath so it isn't compressed is a sharp idea, as is using the lower temp fiberglass around the edges.

I've seen dozens of videos of how to make metal-melting furnaces, but you went professional, great job guys.
Good way to shorten that process is to use a 55 gallon barrel.
also makes for a less interesting video... no ty
or 5 gal can as a starter. less work and more effective.
This has got to be one of the biggest furnaces I have ever had the pleasure to watch being made. Thank you very much for making this and showing us this video.! All the very best wishes for you and your family for the future.....Phil
keep waiting for the video with you guys building your spaceship
Same

Which will never lift off because of insufficient efficiency)
Best furnace build video ever! The work, the music, EVERYTHING! Subscribed!

what is your saw you everytime use for cutting steel ? what kind of disk do you use ?
Faba 1500RPM 96T 14''
+Make it Extreme thank you for the information !
+Make it Extreme but the name of the machine please ?
I Love Every Video you Have on RUclips ! Awesome builds and even better Edits........
Thank you very much! :)

Why didn't you use the homemade pipe bender ??
Or the plasma-torch circle cutter machine.
1:49
Perhaps, maybe because they didn't exist when he made the video ?!
same question !!😞
it does because the furnace is the 40th and the metal bender is the 36th
Probably because the commercial bender they are using employs dies and rollers to help keep the tube from bending out of plane, whereas their DIY bender did not.
First video I've seen of yours. I've been into metalcasting for shy of a decade at this point. And I subscribe to every decent metalworking channel I can find on YT...so of course, it's only just now recommending this channel to me...
God be praised: someone who actually does non-garbage MIG welds on RUclips. I look forward to seeing what else you've got.
Thank you so much! :)
What were those insulating materials?
Probably stone wool.
+Tim Henderson I'm pretty sure Rockwool is only rated to around 800C... So either it will slowly disintegrate, or they found something else that looks like it. Not sure which...
the first layer looks like rockwool and the second layer is ceramic wool
kaowool maybe--some kind of darn wool
the white stuff was 8 PcF ceramic fiber blanket.
Dude SHOW YOUR FACE!!! YOU GOT SKILLS!!! perfect example of having ALL THE RIGHT TOOLS!!! this guy has EVERYTHING wow great video!!!!
You're a freaking artist. Beautiful.
How about making it truly extreme and melt some steel.
haha yeah!!! Exactly my thoughts.
Giovanni Foulmouth grant Thompson melted rock
Andrew Wallace it's easy to melt rock once or twice. But it's hard to build a reliable steel melting furnace for hobbyists that wont cost hundreds upon hundreds of dollars.
Spulch well his used electricity so it was cheap
I have a coal powered furnace with a graphite crucible, it can reach upwards of 1900C.
Awesome!! I've watched a lot of furnace builds, and this one is at the top of the list. One suggestion tho, most have a hole in the bottom in case of crucible failure... or maybe I missed it. Anyway nice job!!
Dats hot! Must be oddly satisfying to drop a beam of metal in there and watch it vanish.
Fascinating again! Great project and video!
Thanks!
you definitely deserve more subs
Thanks! :)
Best vid on youtube for furnace build
You should make a popcorn cannon, it would be crazy.
hehe yeah! :)
Regisnaldo gurgel
I really like what you did for insulation. Nice job.
as always, I am impressed!
Glad you like it! Thanks! :)
+Make it Extreme I wish you would do a q and a we will her to know more about you please
Surprised , amazed , inspired , happy , jealous , feelings I get when I watch your builds
Thank you for the kind words man! :)
AWESOME!!!!
Thank you! :)

Thank you! :)
Now yes that you can rock the world!!! I can image how mutch spare metal part that you cut in the past can go inside this and take new life!!!
hey, that's pretty extreme
+Brett Coryell The extreme thing about furnaces are furnaces are extreme things.
Thank you! :)
@@MakeitExtreme Good day! very cool stove, and please tell me in this stove you can melt prose. Thanks.
@@MakeitExtreme hello, can your oven melt iron?
Not sure how I even ended up here, But I did and loved it. New subscriber 😄. You have skills.

I just put you on my facebook bro your killing it my friend cool stuff awesome :)
some guy said it's ceramic fiber for high temperature insulation
Thanks dude! :)
No problem my friend cool videos i love it bro :)
I'm going to buy a welding machine because of your videos. I want to learn to weld, at least the basics, and the videos are great inspiration for that.
Wow.. This guy is a fucking badass!!!!
What type of welding machine is used ? Is it with argon gas ?
I know music tastes differ, but I couldn't finish watching this video because of the music.
get familiar with the mute button then!
You should learn some tact if you want people to follow you.

It’s funny how I’ve watched like 4 people build foundries now and the first 3 were very relaxing and then
That is just brilliant. From the last build of the Torch I was guessing it might be a furnace.
Thank you very much! :)
We should have seen this coming. Great work!

I've been trying to find someone to make one that can run on oxy-acetylen and will melt steel. I think you guys would be perfect for the job.
Thank you! :)
You could just burn wood or coal and pump pure oxygen into it. I think it would reach the 1535 C needed to melt iron.
I'm thinking about starting a little blacksmithing thing in my garage, I think this monster of a forge could really help things go fast, since you guys are more technical than I am, any suggestion on tools or things I could use to start off with metal working?

What is the drill bit you used for for the bigger holes and do you know of an American equivalent? And what kind of blade is in your chop saw?
Awesome! I wonder what you are going to do with the cast wheel.....
Magnificent work boys!

your editing style is improving, this is smooth keep it up !
Thanks! :)
At first I thought it was an Iron/steel melting crucible but it is an aluminum furnace.
A MASSIVE one

amazing foundry and amazing welding beads. I think you just earned another subscriber

+Make it Extreme I've started watching alot of your videos and I'm just curious is your shop in like a scrap yard cause I see machinery and scrap in some of the videos
wow yours seems to be the simplest one i have seen every thing else is cement or plaster with sand or bricks where did you get the insolation from
HEAVY METALL FOR EVER!
What brand of metal bender is that? I have a Hossfeld with dies I need to setup one day, but it takes up tons of room which I don't have. A smaller bench unit like that would be nice.
i think he built it on his own. There is a video for it.
It's an automatic bender that has a molded case and a safety sticker on it. It is not a one-off job.
craftsmanship very impressive
This is amazing. I have no words.
Thank you! :)
Make it Extreme No problem!
What type of welder are you guys using. And are you cutting the sheet with a plasma torch? Why didn't you use the plasma torch instead of the nibbler to cut the base ?
Phil Chia plasma torches are so tricky when it comes to a nice cut if you're going freehand
