Just saw Roc in Chicago that and Cheat Codes are AOTY to me but WSG ten is still my favorite. Roc was so polished live. But remember this movement is just beginning. Al was smooth on the table and they are also cool humble people, that showed love to the fans on thanksgiving.
@@jacobcaudill6357 This my main account I uploaded a clip from he show, I reviewed it early before it dropped and the extended tracks on vinyl are dope as well.
I wouldn't say WSG bites too much from Marci, Roc was at Westside Gunns first show and was an early supporter but west had a fire tape in '05, west is a pioneer in his own right in his words he is inspired by company flow, Dilla, and Madlib. I would agree that Roc is one of the best but I wouldn't say we wouldn't have Griselda without Roc.
Sound collages existed before Roc he was just the first to find a good pocket to rap on them.
this is a dope series.
keep it up.

Roc birthed a lot of these new artists styles. It’s dope to see him get his flowers 💐 Salute 🫡

@@spliffsoldier Stove God prob the best example
@@atlargeauteur 38 spesh is nicer
@@bluu_ice6554 True he does have Rocs flow kinda, I would put stove over Spesh personally even though we haven't got his debut with Griselda yet, But 38 Spesh has been on fire this year.
“Elmo’s red as hell. Better protect ya neck” got me 😂😂😂
I stumbled upon 76 by Marci on youtube in like 2014. I was probably like 16 years old and I remember being like *YOO WTF IS THIS IT’S AMAZING* then he dropped Rosebudd 1 and it was over. Love Roc and everything he’s done for the game. big ups to the gawd
I know this technically doesn’t count as a Roc album but what him and Stove did with Reasonable Drought was incredible. Roc is an undeniable legend. For me it’s Elephant Man’s Bones, Mt Marci and tied for 3rd is Marcielago and RR2.
Jazz talks about it at the end'
It’s dope, he took Cooks off Busta and shaped him to what he is today, and now he’s doing his thing with GxFR. ROC, the best hands down, his rhyming and his production also.
Most ppl put Mt. Marci at the bottom of his discography but it’s up there for me also it gets better and better each time I listen to it
His PRODUCTION ON LORD FLEES DELGADO WAS LEGENDARY.
@@baythagod he has the most anticipated album for me at this point. I’m still spinning Reasonable Drought like it just dropped.
Please do a Goat piece on The Alchemist, if any producer deserves it its him. The way he has been able to be prolific and influential across 3 decades of hip hop, as well as be the 2nd most influential (after Roc) when it comes to the Renaissance griselda-esque of the past 10 years is truly amazing. The alchemist deserves to be #1 on everybody's lists and I really think it's so interesting that when you mentioned the 3 griselda features out of the Grammy noms last year, alchemist was a part of the Jay Electronica album too. He is timeless!
Yes bro that alchemist and roc album is masterpiece hands down
Approaching my 40s...as hip-hop fan I'm so glad I discovered Roc Marciano
You can't listen to Roc Marci without his music without it influencing your real life. The greatest to ever do it, easily.
What Roc tracks influence your real life?
He can get in the queue lol
@@DuckAlertBeats 😂😂😂
@@TheCompanyMan I was broke and in a hopeless situation when I started listening to Roc. I'm neither of those things anymore.
Watching him go against the grain and create an entire lane in hip hop so masterfully helped me emulate a similar path in business. Roc Marci is the soundtrack to my life.
@@fimanekenimbodo4196 That's Heavy! Roc is nice AF tho..
Everything about him reminds me of Doom. I'm so glad that you said that. His bars, his attention to syllable rhymes and the fact that he produces . Great comparison!
I kinda agree! I always thought he's a pimp version of Doom to some degree. Excellent discography, Reloaded is his masterpiece.
one of the best discographies in hip hop and easily one of the most consistent rappers ever
Well said.
@@TheCompanyMan another excellent video. at first i thought this would be a goat piece on Nas, but Roc deserved this. i wish you the best.
12 year run of straight heat.
Ka is probably even more consistent than him!
It’s time for him to be included in the conversation of the greatest MC/producers of all time. In there with Havoc, RZA, DJ Quik, Lord Finesse, Q-Tip etc.

Great goat piece Justin! Ever since I heard that “Richard gear” joint from Marcielago 3 years ago, I felt like Roc is one of the most consistent rappers out. The man doesn’t have one bad project or even bad verse. As Black thought once said “I am the one, rappers is influenced unknowingly”. I think this applies to Roc as well.
Well said. Appreciate the analysis, Ricky.
You can also find Marci's influence in recent latino and spanish rap releases. His influence in the whole game is ridiculous.

Roc is the Godfather of that new Era underground grimey soulful New York sound. He brought back flowing over samples without drums. Respect to the boy. ✊🏾💯
Fa sho he’s a goat. He been had the craziest rhyme schemes and bars. He’ll give you the lavish pimp talk, the gritty street bars, the candid reflection, and gems and motivation. A true MC. Such a striking aura and gravitas to the way he spits. He makes epic ass music. Not to mention his beautiful production that he creates, which is a style he pioneered.
He be having the funniest bars too😂
He’s really the progenitor of this whole underground sound in and out of the streets. He paved the way for everyone from Griselda to Earl/MIKE and so many more.
He’s in that rare class MCs thats your favorite artists favorite artist. He’ll only continue to get more popular, but us true rap fans give him heaps of flowers on a regular basis because he really earned it.
Excellent analysis. You're right, too. Roc's hilarious.
He's only the greatest if you love what he does. I got tired of it after his early stuff and first album. Not a fan of any of his production now
RESPECT. Nothing But RESPECT For ROC MARCIANO His Style Is One Of One
Zig zag zig, quantum leap, bubble bath!!! Whole album is a slappa as always, big up to ROC MARCIANO NY LEGEND! 💯💪🏽
He started this era period 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Roc is the greatest no debate I watched hip hop since the beginning and his wordplay is unmatched
The Roc!!! Definitely the GOAT of his chamber, a true pioneer. Thanks for this tribute to a God Level MC!!!!
'Preciate you Mark!
Roc , westside gunn, conway the machine, jay worthy, gperico, larrry june take me back to the 90s real spittaz
He deserves it he's been quality for ages kept getting overlooked
Didn't even watch the video yet and already liked the video. I don't think Roc get enough attention so a 17 min video saying he could be in the category as the best with the pen deserves a like
Hopefully we will get the KA TBD video that I thought you would never do-good video once again, Justin!
Thank you for these pieces Just! You're the best journalist in the game imo. Since the DX days & your show with Jude everything you put out is informative & entertaining you can tell you really put in the work when crafting your content. Your contribution is much appreciated over here brother. The culture is lucky to have you and hopefully you never stop doing what you do.✊
That's love, brother. Thank you.
Been listening to Roc Marcino for years.
This is real hip hop journalism. I’ve def heard of Roc’s name since 2010 but never fully listened. You made me want to do my research. Peace .
I was late to Roc but he’s been my goat since 2017 🔥
So glad Roc's getting some love. This brought back so much nostalgia from my university days. When I first moved to the US (New York) to go to university and a couple month's later 'Rosebudd's Revenge' came out, it was literally what got me back into loving rap; brought flashbacks to that gritty 90s sound mixed in with the old school sense of humor but without ever really stepping over into being goofy. And I always thought he deserved to be bigger, like at least Schoolboy Q level. Thank you for this piece, Justin. Big up
Can’t say new album was what I expected but roc is still THE GOAT dissect the bars and you’ll know.. I’m 21 anthis my fav artist alive
Beezy from dead end hip hop just started screaming with glee
Beezy the illest.
I didn’t think people listened to this guy like this since 2014 I been listening to him
Thank God for Roc Marci!!!!!!
Fantastic video. I remember first listening to "Marcberg" in 2011 after seeing his name while scouring the UGHH forums. His music sounded familiar, imbued with the spirit of all the classic Hip-Hop I grew up on, yet like nothing I'd ever heard before. One of the things I love about Roc is that each album grows on you the more you listen to it, and you start to notice the attention to detail and just how great of a writer this dude is. Personally, he's my all-time favorite MC at this point. The run he's been on the last 12 years is like Lebron going to the finals 8 years in a row. Listening to Roc is like dining at a 5-star restaurant, not everybody can afford to pay the amount of attention that's required to truly understand and appreciate what he's doing, but it's the highest quality you can get. True connoisseur rap. Great work, you've definitely earned a subscriber.
Love the analysis, MFF. That Lebron comparison is super on point. Thank you 🙏🏿
Yessir!!!! Thank you for this fam!!! Def needed.
DOOM and Roc put together rhymes in a similar way. tons of internal rhymes! both buttery smooth but their voices are so different so its not often mentioned.
rosebudds revenge is my favorite Roc album (my fav album all time) and i agree TEMB is a top 3 or 4 for sure!
Great analysis. I think I'll do a piece comparing DOOM and Roc. Both from Long Island. Lotta similarities.
DOOM is the villain Roc is the hustler but yea I came to the same conclusion. Would love to hear Roc and Madlib.
@The Company Man too many! Would be an amazing piece. Amazing Breakdown! And Thugs Prayer part 2 (and marcberg) being pulled from streaming is a crime. Gotta have spin the wax more! How many beat switches he squeeze in that one track! Damn!
Was Lucky enough to discover Roc through an Action Bronson live show where he was a featured artist. I felt like I was going crazy because he absolutely blew me away, but the crowd turned on him. I love Bronson, but anybody there for rap music instead of getting their book signed could have felt how special Roc was. I then had the pleasure of discovering just how influential he was to most of my favorite music of the past decade. You can't bury a diamond that brilliant. The dirt will shine. The "greats" walk many paths, and Roc Marciano is, without question, one of the greats.
I met Roc and Stove God at a show at Sony Hall last summer. Really cool dude, shouted out my neighborhood in Suffolk County Long Island & had a good ass show. “Shit I’m On” is easily my fav song by him
Roc was so ahead of his time! Truest technician in the game.
Thanks for the recc bro
I’ve been saying this for two years! Mainly because of his rhyme style, his witty metaphors, amazing wordplay, and his best style that comes together with his rhymes to create a style that is immaculate. Reloaded alone is one of the greatest hip hop albums ever and that was a decade ago!
Ka is the greatest of all time. Can’t speak on Roc without Ka to be honest. Ka’s Pen game and intricate wordplay is unmatched.
Peace. I won’t take that from KA… bro will have you sittin in a corner contemplating life and expressing gratitude. 💪🏽
Nah it’s like OutKast with Ka and Roc …neither one is better than the other they complement each other..Ka just your favorite
Thank you!
It's all happening.
Finally good to see roc get his flowers 💯🔥 he became a staple in NY even if he dont get radio play his underground presence/influence/catalog is HEAVY
Thanks for the excellent content Justin
Killed it as per usual Justin. Roc is a generational talent n I’ve noticed so many artists not getting their flowers in this social media/streaming age. The ONE thing that separates him from his contemporaries is his vision as a lyricist. Love him or hate him, he’s influence on Hip-Hop is cemented and luckily for the culture, GOAT pieces like this are just entry points to the Roc Marci rabbit hole! Keep em coming big bro 💪🏾🔥
The GOAT piece I needed!
Roc is the most consistent of all time
Nothing wrong with not pandering to the mainstream. Keeps his vision concise.
All Facts! Roc deserves the GOAT title
*ROC MARCIANO FATHERED THE STYLE AND INFLUENCED THE NEW GOLDEN ERA*
My favourite album of his is Reloaded, a true classic, glad to see Roc get his flowers, he's been formidable and one of those rare artists whose art doesn't decline with each project.
Thanks for the breakdown and for giving Roc the coverage he deserves on your channel.
Thanks for checking it and rocking with the community, DID.
Seems like anyone that was in a group with Busta either didn't get a shot to shine or faded away. ROC developing his business model kept him relevant.
Another great one Justin 👌
Reloaded my favorite album of all time too. Thread Count.
Roc def one of one. Then the fact that he plays both sides of the ball/floor at an elite level… beautiful quality to watch! 👌🏽
I’m not on top of Roc’s entire catalog, but I immensely respect his work ethic, and his craftiness is unparalleled. I rock with The Elephant Man’s Bones… it’s like an unsung hero.
Great job! One of the greatest rappers of all time. Such a consistent discography!
BIGFAX. so super consistent.
I just listened to mt Marci and I couldn’t agree anymore. The man is genius
Another Saturday another Classic from the company man. Good shit Justin
I'm here for this talk. Also, UN or U Out doesn't get enough love
Heh Justin ace to see you bringing some love to Roc Marciano,he's been killing it now for more than a decade and influencing a whole generation of underground East Coast Lyricists.
Thanks, JC. How you been?
Right on the money Mr. Hunte! Excellent episode! Continued success to you..
Thanks for putting me on to Roc!! As a big Griselda fan I immediately checked out his latest album and its dope! Love the content
This whole wave right now is all contributed to this brotha. His art is incredibly intricate, brutal, and comedic all at once.
For me it Reloaded, Behold The Dark Horse, Rosebuds Revenge 1, with Marcielago galloping right behind.
Thank you for this 🙏🏿
Commenting for the algorithm, keep doing your thing Justin!
Thanks for this breakdown Justin. I’d been listening to Roc for years but this made me appreciate his legacy way more. Great breakdown! Great channel.
Love from Nigeria!
Soon as that "Check this out" hits, you know you're in for some dopeness
When I discovered roc in '15 I was stuck ever since went back to his earlier catalog and been keeping up with him since in that time he has become my favorite emcee
1. Pimpire
2. Rosebud 1
3. Marcberg
4. Rosebud 2
5. Mt. Marci
love the Roc DOOM comparison. I think its completely on point
Hell yeah Justin! The people need to know this. I hate watching reviews on this specific genre and whenever a critic talks about drum less beats they never credit Roc. This video is important for those unfamiliar to get familiar.
Some of the sharpest and funny lines ever delivered by Roc
The most consistent
I liked this for the title alone!
Love the breakdown
Thank you Gabriel
Roc is top 2 all time to me behind Lupe lol.... He's my biggest musical influence in my music- he's a lyrical genius....
On one hand, I wish he got the attention he deserves from the game at large, but on the other hand, I like him being able to move at will without having to sacrifice for the industry......
Valid GOAT 🐐
He's the most celebrated most outside the culture have never heard of. I want him to have all the accolades he's earned.
@@TheCompanyMan facts fam....
It's one of those things where, idk, I don't know how you qualify this lol- like, give the god a BET award on something 😂
But this was dope, good work 🥂
Thank you. I have not been listening to Roc Marc with the ear I should have, I think. I love Ka and have always listened and appreciated Roc as someone working frequently with him, but this piece made me realize that I need to give Roc much more of my time. Thank you, sir.
Nothing but greatness on this album 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks, i will take a listen
Vinyls sold out quick. Had to settle for the digital version but it's all cool
His base is super solid. Love his business mind too.
I had to subscribe, this is GODLY TIER CONTENT!!!!!!
he is a Legend !
I’m gonna add to this comment when I done watching but I just wanted to say how excited that knew the exact words this video would start with, because if you’ve watched Justin enough times you knew too. First time I ever actually thought about as the ad was playing beforehand. Id also like to say how excited I am for a new goat piece and a piece on someone for better or worse I don’t know the most about. Justin is a great Introductionist and I mean that as in his intros are great and he introduces people or concepts very well, and I say that as someone who has known nothing or known a lot on certain subjects. The Tech N9ne piece, for example, is wonderful and I’ve been a Tech fan for two decades running.
Greatest to ever touch the mic
Roc is forever goated
This was brilliantly done Justin; really well done. I was just having the same exact conversation with a great friend of mine this weekend. At this point Roc is in my top 5 of all time. His discography is just sublime. What other MC do you know has 5-6 classic albums in their discography; without debate? His influence is stamped and verified. He is an incredible producer. Legendary pen game. Like dude is the total package. In terms of his best work, as a BIG fan, I would have to put Marcielago (his magnum opus in my opinion), Elephant Man's Bones (AOTY), Mt. Marci (I suggest you really sit down with this one - it felt dark but the project was immaculately well thought out) as his best 3 projects. Thanks again for voicing what needed to be said. Even with all the media praise Roc still doesn't get put in those GOAT conversations enough. (Thanks to Jake Paine for putting me on to your channel!)
For a long time I wanted to get into Roc’s music. This was a big reminder to do that. Bout to watch this video and go cop his new album.
True. Roc is still the greatest.
Thank God for Roc Marci...and The Company Man
Well putogether,, Facts spoken The Company Man
I was on to roc from the flip mode dayz and proud of it.
Justin you was on point
Thank you brother.
Roc is that guy.
I tell people every time. Roc is the goat. With the beats and the rhymes he can’t be touched
The way Roc comes in on $500 Ounces and flows like he just talkin game…🔥
Yeah man. He's special. I tried so hard to work in "Downtown 81" in this episode but it started to feel bloated.
Massive Roc Marciano fan, it wasn't till you mentioned the pararelles between him and DOOM that I even thought about that, it could very well by the foundation of my fandom.
YEah man. I'ma do another piece sometime comparing the two. So many similarities and they're both from Long Island.
This was a great episode and I love the shoutout to Roc’s debut as that is indeed a classic! I feel like now we deff need a Nas goat piece! I feel like obviously we know that he was in the conversation before, but now with this recent 4 album run he has been on (in addition to arguably having the greatest hip-hop debut ever) - it is long overdue for sure! 🔥🙏🏾👑
P.S. - The Elephant Man’s Bones is still my ish even now! Roc & Alchemist really struck pure gold!
Heavy Gratitude.
Ps His verse on that Random Axe Chewbacca song let me know he was no joke.
