    In terms of costs, Polish hussars also need a castle for getting the unique technology that gives them trample damage. This further adds to their costs.

      Does that make a difference in this test, though? Without the bonus, but with trample damage, they should come out to exactly three strikes to kill a fully upgraded arbalest without bonuses.
      It would require quite a bit of trample overlap to actually make a significant difference. Well, about three hits, which means three hussars attacking three adjacent arbalests would already do it, and with the bonus, assuming it also applies to the area damage, it would take one strike less, so... only one and a half adjacent winged hussars?
      Maybe if one of them dies.
      I do agree the bonus is valuable early on, though. Or against archers on a hill or with a durability bonus.

    The funny thing about the Magyar Huzsar unit. In the original HD version of AoE2, *they did not have wings.* Just look it up, their original sprite lacked wings whatsoever.
    It was the devs of DE who decided to give it wings in this version.
    Most likely, they weren't really sure on plans to add the Poles back then, so they probably added wings to the Magyar Huzsars just to make a sort of reference to the Polish Winged Hussar. As a form of "representation of the Polish" through the Magyars civ.
    If so, plans obviously change and now we have the Poles added in with their own cool looking golden armored Winged Hussar. _Problem is, now people are so used to seeing Magyar Huzsars with wings that suddenly taking them off again for accuracy's sake is gonna cause a lot of backlash._
    So, yeah! Quite the conondrum.

    I was kind of hoping SOTL would also touch on the Poles team bonus of +1 attack for scouts vs archers. I'd like to know if its actually any good and how much of a difference it makes in Feudal, castle and imperial Age. If it's currently not really doing anything then hopefully it could be buffed to +2 like the Persian knight bonus

    • @Payneonline
      @Payneonline 3 года назад +14

      It is worth it.
      In Feudal, Polish scouts need 5 hits to kill the archer instead of regular 6 (with equivalent upgrades, and still 5 with a +2 bonus you are suggesting)
      In Castle, 5 hits for LC against xbows (polish or regular), becoming 4 hits with 1 upgrade difference for Poles, and 2 upgrade difference for regular LC
      In imp, this bonus is hard to quantify considering trample damage
      So yes, very good bonus and your +2 suggestion is unnecessary.

      this is why I really like Steppe Lancers when they 1st came out. I think both AOE 2 (used to) and AOE 1 (I don't remember any civs have any) don't have many spear cavalry units, which is not really historical accurate. There are many civilizations in Ancient Age and Medieval Age have that kind of cavalry units in their force, they are really popular units in many countries

    • @NikozBG
      @NikozBG 3 года назад +9

      @@anhdunghisinh I would take this one step further and say that lances are the ubiquitous and the preferred weapons for cavalry throughout most of history. Cataphracts and Knights were feared and renowned for their lance charges, but both units in aoe2 use swords instead which makes them look a lot less scary imo.
      Edit: Also in Asian cultures the exact same is thing is true. For instance the japanese naginata riders are among the coolest cavalry troops to me personally.

    • @anhdunghisinh
      @anhdunghisinh 3 года назад +2

      @@NikozBG yeah it is really strange to see cavalry using short weapon like swords mostly. Usually because of being mount on a horse, the soldier need more range to reach the opponents from the ground, the sword force them to bend over to reach the target, which increase the chance they being unmounted by the enemy's infantries

    • @anhdunghisinh
      @anhdunghisinh 3 года назад +1

      @@NikozBG when using a long spear type weapon, the cavalry can also charge at opponent calvary to knock them down from the horse, whose has better length and strong material lance will win.

    Here is a video idea I'm sure you've heard floating around. Some people have been suggesting that it might be more worthwhile as poles to not get farm upgrades because then farms will refresh more often thus netting their free food more often after reseeding the farms. A video comparing the food rates with each of the farm upgrades (Horse Collar, Heavy Plow, and Crop Rotation) vs not getting the upgrade and the cost associated with each option (cost of farm reseeding and/or upgrade cost) would be really cool to see.

    • @Aarlaeoss
      @Aarlaeoss Год назад +1

      You'd get food more often, but not as much and it will balance out. Farm upgrades scale it because the building frontloads a solid 10% of the farm's food stock. I generally don't need that many of them to fulfill that role, and Magyars get very good regular hussars anyway since they are discounted and quicker to replace, thus better throwaway mass cavalry. Can you add in post imperial Gujara hussars to this video? I am confused how good they are with their civ bonus +40% damage and the lack of blast furnace. I love your content spirit of the law! Thank you!

    So, the Lith Hussar is the best overall? Cheper upgrades, winged Hussar Bonus, and best average performance vs melee and Pierce

    Another thing to note in the Hussar Vs. Arbalester test is Poles’s team bonus for +2 against archers.
    Or…does that bonus not apply to Winged Hussars? A strange oversight (?) if so.
