Morning Steve its lovely to see so many people sitting outside in the streets chatting and not a mobile phone in site, lovely architecture cobbled stoned streets well worn through the passage of time. An array of flowers and bushes around and above the door ways, adding to the beauty original all blending together in an infusion of colors complimenting each other....
You probably dont care but if you're stoned like me atm you can watch pretty much all the new series on instaflixxer. I've been watching with my gf for the last few weeks xD
We went to that school from 1962 to 1967 then migrated to Sydney, Australia. My house in Carlton, NSW is called Birkirkara, which is the only house in Australia with that name. Great video and even greater happy memories for all of us. Thanks Steve.
Thanks for a very interesting video, Steve, in the back streets of Birkikarra, places I've never seen, so it was good to see different buildings and little alleyways. It was good you found Laura's old home, she must have been pleased to see that. The ladies in the lovely little church were nice and friendly. The Basilica looked similar to Mellieha Church outside, but different inside, both lovely, as are all the churches in Malta. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Steve, you’ve really made my day with your video of my old home town ,”Lost in Birkirkara”. We left there to come to Australia when I was 12, I went to the school there when it still was only 2 storeys high. In regards to Tal Herba Chappell, two of my sisters were married in that chapel. My uncle the painter( artist) Joseph Briffa did some of the paintings in that chapel, as well as in one of the side chapels in St Helen’s Basilica. He also has works at Bormla or Cospicua, which he did after they were war damaged, as well as other churches around Malta and Gozo. Again thank you for a wonderful experience. Cheers Frank
I walked around for laura , she sponsored it ..the old school and her street , The guys at the bar was fun ..Tal Herba Chapel so beautiful ...Just waiting things get back to normal to continue to make Lost in ......
Aloha, Great Video! Thank you Richard Calleja for sharing! This brings back many memories! of Santa Elena and il Madonna tal Herba. My Brother Joe Calleja may he RIP. He loved Santa Elena. Birkirkara Boys school. Back when the Boy had one side and the Girls had the other.Early 1970's.There were no windows on the outside. When it rained with all the wind all the hallways would be wet and everyone would slip. Just trying to get there morning milk. Thanks mate! Great Video. Cheers!
Whenever I spent weekends at grandpa's as a little girl, I used to go to Sunday mass at Santu Rokku chapel while our dish of roast meat and potatoes was cooked in the bakery next door. Many people used to have their Sunday meal roasted at the village bakery for a very small charge. The baker's wood fire gave food such a special, mouth watering taste! This video takes me back over half a century!
As l child, living in Aust: bog my parents from B’Kara, we use to frequently visit Malta for 3 mth holidays! My Nannu Michael Ellul lived in Brared St. (30)! I would love you to show his door?’ Then, further down he had a store, he was a tailor across the road from Palmirra stationary! Now l think it’s a pizza place? How l wish l could visit! I lived with him & taught in Malta for two years! So many memory ❤️👏 Thanks fir this video
Thanks for sharing this video. We were there last year in August for the Festa of St Helena and stayed just around the corner in a beautiful three storey terrace. My Mum was born here so we took her back to experience this great part of the town's history. The bells rang constantly and I must admit woke us early in the morning and kept us up late at night! But besides that all beautiful memories. Loving your videos!!
Nice to see B’Kara again - looking forward to visiting my friends there soon. You had a great shot 13:00 of my “Maltese son’s” hair salon Hairways ( he’s actually my friends’ son but he calls me his English mum) great hair dresser, great 🕺 and a nice guy.
Hi Steve, loved your video of Birkirkara, I was born there and lived there up to when I got married, some 50 odd years ago.. felt like I was walking with you down memory lane.Thank you Steve keep them coming!! Greetings from UK.
Thanks for showing around. This is the first time in my life I saw this church of il Madonba tal- Herba. I heard about it, but never saw it until I saw this video of yours. Thanks again.
My 7 brothers and sisters all went to that school in Birkirkara and to Saint Helens every Sunday until we emigrated to Sydney in 1967. Nothing has changed in Birkirkara since our last visit recently. We lived in Anglu-Mallia Junction. My house at 2 Botany street, Carlton NSW, is named "Birkirkara" , which we believe is the only one, so called, in Australia. The pastizzi shop close to the the church is a little treasure.
Wow this is fascinating my friend. The architecture is incredible. The streets are breathtaking. Good luck on super 5 😅🤞. Glad you found Laura’s house. Big thank you to Laura for funding this trip 😄👍❤️.
Those old cobbled back streets remind me of the little back streets in Faversham, only difference is the building materials used. That little church with the 2 ladies is absolutely beautiful. Lost in Rabat.
Another enjoyable video. Never been to Birkirkara; it's the kind of place you pass through but normally don't stop. Will have to put that right at some stage !
Thanks for taking me on another interesting walk. I've never been off the main roads in Bkk, and they're always so congested. Also I didn't realise how close to Sliema this is if you walk via the Mater Dei. I see the Christmas decorations are up already.
Hi my friend inside is very nice i like building they look old? thank you for coming to my live stream today sorry i didn't see your comment just saw when i play it back, hope you doing well my friend take care
@@EnglishmaninMalta Saw that one as well its changed so much over the yrs especially the street I lived on used to be all farm land but to see that the little farmhouse is still standing small but still there
Not been well Steve so I am a bit late watching this video. It is really great to see that finally they, the powers that be, are putting some height restrictions on the older town properties. The churches are nice to see as well. I went to a wedding at one of them but back when I was at school so I don't remember which church it was. I hope Lara enjoyed it all, I know I did. By the way, there was no wind noise to bother about in here. Thanks for another good view of the Malta the others don't bother to show.
In a windy day, you can hear the large bell gong from all over central Malta. Heard it from Msida once :) The first Parish of Birkirkara is actually Santa Maria located near the old railway station ^_^ Part of it is damaged and has gunshots and shrapnel due to enemy combat.
