When I was little, the face I ascribed to God was the emperor from Disney's Mulan. Bearded, eternally calm, wise old man. And when Mulan hugs him at the end, other characters are amazed he permitted her to do that. But again, the emperor wasn't explictly meant to be a deity character. So perhaps this reflects more on me and my own faith than it does the Disney animators.
Interesting. If we're looking into Disney's Mulan, I personally think of The Great Stone Dragon as a potential depiction of God. You have a spirit being who is believed to be benevolent, wise, and powerful. People sometimes pray to this being for protection or guidance. It is unclear if this being actually even exists, and even when it seems it does, it sure seems to work mysteriously. Imo, the Great Stone Dragon especially seems to align with a representation of God from Christianity because of the three traits that that god is believed to possess. Additionally, God (from Christianity) is believed by some to sort of "possess" people (in a good way) through a mode of itself known within the faith as "The Holy Spirit" where someone influenced by God may become capable of greater wisdom or insight as well as performing acts or feats they might otherwise not be capable of performing only on their own power alone. In the movie, after sitting under the statue of the Great Stone Dragon, Mulan suddenly goes from being scared and worried about how her father will survive being called to war when he's too old to fight to having a determined look and spirit on her face and taking the action of deciding to go in his place (cue montage of her cutting her hair, donning his armor, and going out to enlist in his place). This also just so happens to align with her grandmother's prayer. She prays to the Great Stone Dragon to watch over Mulan, while Mulan is riding off to join the Chinese army. One can either interpret this as the Great Stone Dragon granting Mulan the courage and resolve to sufficiently watch over herself, or sort of merging itself with Mulan's spirit (like how Christians believe their spirits sort of merge with God's Holy Spirit when placing their faith in God). Additionally, one could interpret the Great Stone Dragon as sort of playing 3-D chess with the fates of Mulan, Mushu, her father, and all of China. Mulan wants to be a "perfect daughter" to bring honor to her family, Mushu wants to be a good enough spirit to join the spirit guardians, Mulan's father is in danger of dying as a soldier he is getting too old to be, and China is in danger from the Huns trying to invade and conquer it. A situation happens to arise where Mulan winds up taking her father's place, with Mushu providing support and in the end Mulan earns a tremendous amount of honor for herself, Mushu proves himself, Mulan's father is saved and so is the rest of China. I kinda felt like it was almost as if the Great Stone Dragon had a part in influencing events behind the scenes to set up a scenario where Mulan and Mushu help each other achieve each other's goals and destinies while saving many others in the process (both intentional with Mulan's father and unintentional with the rest of the population of China). In fact, it could also go with a teaching in Christianity that God might sometimes even answer prayers not directly or personally addressed to Him, but just expressions of longing or need. The emperor in the beginning talked about needing as many soldiers as possible to address the threat of the Hun invasion and concluded the address with the statement that "one grain of rice can tip the scale between victory and defeat" (and Mulan turned out to be that metaphorical grain of rice that tipped that scale). So Mulan going off to war could have also been the Great Stone Dragon responding to the emperor as well, without the emperor even directly calling to the Great Stone Dragon for help or possibly even being aware of the Great Stone Dragon as something that exists for him to call to for help, but receiving that help anyway as if it already knew what the emperor needed and how to fulfill that need. Anyway, admittedly, my thoughts on this interpretation are somewhat jumbled as I don't get into this too often, but I feel like the Great Stone Dragon seems to be a pretty decent depiction of God in fiction, particularly the Christian God according to a number of various theological beliefs that many Christians seem to have about God.
My personal interpretation of God making us in his image 2:10 simply means he made us sentient, he made humans to be individually thinking creatures who are mentally capable of creation and destruction, we can level mountains, boil oceans, wipe out entire species, but we also bring new life, we protect speiceies from batural disasters we can terraform planets. We are like God as in we are capable of mimicking what he can do
Maybe, it's the hating religion part of me that's talking but we have just as much free will as any other life, we are just. Highly intelligent (which also animals have but not all) and have arms and legs and are weak enough to not develop many high sociopath tendencies because we were too busy surviving using teamwork which is the best when you are weak.

I like the depiction of God in Fullmental Alchemist, neutral and fair, Truth claims there’s nothing wrong with wanting most knowledge, but Father steals from others, so he learns nothing, he cheats. it’s unfair and he punishes him by teaching him, locking him in emptiness behind the door of knowledge. My favourite rendition of God is from the comic Kill Six Billion Demons. In it, God's first act is suicide through division. They split themselves into multiple forms that in-turn divided themselves further, eventually resulting in the universe. Thus reality as we know it basically God talking to Themself.

I think my favorite depiction of God is in the comic Animal Man: Deus Ex Machina. Animal Man gets to meet the writer of his comic, Grant Morrison (after traveling through a limbo-like space and losing almost everything he had - very much like Inanna’s descent into the underworld in Mesopotamian mythology). It’s a strange and sort of melancholic scene, since Grant Morrison only worked on Animal Man for 26 issues and Deus Ex Machina was their last storyline before they had to pass the comic on to another writer.
I also really like God's depiction in the Animal Man issue 'The Coyote Gospel', which is effectively the same depiction of God being the artist/writer, but a bit more cynical and detached, kind of setting up the themes further expanded upon in Deus Ex

The editing of the intro is amazing and the immediate drop into a depiction of god you know you can cover is such a brilliant touch to a stellar video. I liked your depictions of the devil video and can’t wait to watch your favourite depictions of hell!
my favorite is probably the Outsider from Dishonored (ive only played the first game and the 2 Daud DLCs) he just gives people super powers then eats popcorn
There's a difference between a god from different polytheistic religions and mythologies where they are powerful and accompanied by other similarly powerful gods but can still be defeated/usurped versus the monotheistic religion of the Abrahamic God where they are far more powerful and omnipotent than any other god depicted throughout other cultures.
Indie game "Off" takes places in a world where god is a dying child. Which means, just like its god, the world is both very young and dying at the same time. It is very sad, a bit disturbing, and also poetic in its own weird way. It's a fairly short game but I like it a lot, it's free and not that well known, you should give it a try !
God, in Acid House - it became my fav character from the whole... thing, since the 1st time I watched it (and I still LOVE that performance, just rewatched it, again!XD)
Futurama's is a personal favourite of mine, the idea of god being some sort of nebula computer deity that simultaneously speaks in binary and actual hearable vocals that sets these massive plans in motion to teach people lessons is really interesting to me.
I love that Stranger Than Fiction gets the shoutout here, it's possibly my favourite movie ever, Emma Thompson is just delivering on all cylinders non stop. Gotta shoutout the God from Futurama "You were doing well until everyone died"
For anyone interested Noragami just wrapped up the manga this year and is one of the most interesting depictions of gods I've ever read. Wish we could get a season 3 for the anime though I doubt it lol Also not sure if Ryou from Devilman Crybaby falls more under 'god' or 'angel' but that ending has stayed in my head for years now like damn
Only God Forgives is an extremely weird movie and very hard to recommend to people, but it is very excellent. That got you subscribe right there. That and you having a whole video on Zahler which is also a great video.
One of my favorite depictions of god in media is… The Board, from Control. While they are never, really truly said to be “gods” they have that feeling, that air to them and with how the characters treat them at times. The design, from what we know, is simply a black triangle, ever present in some alternate reality. They lay above, watching it all, “granting” our main character Jesse abilities. Their speech is nothing more than gibberish, yet the subtitles tell you all they communicate/lie about and the… strange way they do so, some words seemingly have a double meaning (some of my favorites “words” are: “go play/exterminate” which shows how apathetic they are or “objects of power/665”, again, implications of them being gods, that the magic objects they create are angels, in some twisted sense.). It’s definitely my favorite interpretation of how god, might just talk. Then there’s also the fact that it is later implied that… god, truly is like humanity. It is corruptible, it can be… as terrible as us, casting out of their own to some abandoned recess of their plane simply because it found flaw in their scripture. It’s in the name too… The Board. Not a god-esque name, not some unnamed thing just… The Board. As ruthless and as controlling as an executive board might be, when it comes to their shares (in humanity, now). Yet we really… don’t know much. Just that they are ruthless, that they are seemingly, one of the most powerful beings to humanity, that they have been around far longer than we can comprehend, that they have power over the uncomprehensivable, I mean they have a house that lives, that shifts with impossible proportions. They have, possibly intimate access to inanimate objects with powers beyond anything, a tv that shifts reality, a shapeshifting gun, a floppy disk with telekinesis, a mind-frying x-ray machine! A phone with no buttons, to phone them and the dead. The slide projector. They may also be… indescribable, perhaps? I love the image of god just being a simple inverted pyramid. I doubt I do them justice here but they are quite frankly, one of my favorite depictions of god, in perhaps one of my favorite games, even if it isn’t the best the world they build, something else for sure. Totally recommend it, if you can just, completely immerse yourself in a story, you don’t have to play Alan Wake before any of the content, honestly makes it better if you don’t to me.
Glob and Golb from Adventure Time Glob is powerful as hell but when he's not on the clock he's just some dude, i love him Golb is a being beyond everything that lives only to sow chaos
I'm not sure if it technically counts but one of my favorite depiction of a "god" is yaldaboth from persona 5, the idea that a god was born because society seeked to be controlled is so cool to me
mind game's depiction of god not having a concrete appearance reminds me of the contumelia from the finale of ben 10 omniverse, who are a race of fifth-dimensional aliens that used a superbomb to cause the big bang that created the universe, and since their form isn't comprehensible to third-dimensional beings they appear as "a projection of the thing that holds the most sway in your hearts" (ben sees the mr. smoothy mascot, rook sees his dad, gwen sees grandpa max, kevin sees his car, and the arc's main villain sees himself)
Would be interesting to see a follow up: "favorite depictions of *gods*" where you go over pantheons. My personal favorite has to be the pantheon of Great Ones from Bloodborne
I've never watched Mind Game, but the theme and visual style remined me of the anime "The Tatami Galaxy". After googling it was not an accident as the anime was also directed by Massaki Yuasa. If you haven't watched it, I highly recommend.
I would also add the depictions of God and the devil in the television show Preacher. which I would highly recommend to anyone. A very fun show. And of course, the graphic novel it is based on. again, great video. Looking forward to more.
you had me panicking when you said guardians of the galaxy 2 came out in 2014, it actually came out in 2017. i vividly remember seeing the first guardians of the galaxy movie in theaters with my dad in 2014 when i was 10. it was the first superhero movie and the first pg13 movie i ever saw in theaters. i recalculated the timeline of my life for a minute, then googled to make sure i wasn’t going crazy 😂
Oh my god I've been trying to find Splice for years but never could. I saw my stepdad watch it when I was like 7 or something and was horrified and have wanted to watch it for myself (not just the rly weird scene I saw) but could never figure out how to search for it. Here it is.
I'm gonna watch this video when I get a chance, but I need to gush about my favorite depiction of God from the game Ultrakill. Slight spoilers for the lore, but most of this lore is told through secrets so it won't affect a playthrough much. In the Ultrakill universe, God tried various attempts to create the perfect species, one that could do no wrong and worshiped him entirely, but no matter how powerful God was he could never remove human's freewill, and so attempt after attempt all his creations would eventually become something God had not intended for them and he would start over. After too many trials and no success, God finally broke and, in a fit of rage, created Hell and sent all his creations into it to suffer eternal torment. While he was still enraged, the angel Lucifer questioned God, asking if eternal torment was a fair punishment for those that were simply foolish. Without much thought, God threw Lucifer down into Hell as well. When God calmed down, he immensely regretted creating Hell and throwing Lucifer into it, but when he tried to unmake it, Hell had become too powerful for even God to destroy. And so, God fell into deep, deep despair and eventually left, abandoning Heaven, Hell, and everything in between. We currently don't know what happened to God when he left, but there are some implications that he is dead, either something killing him or God, deep in depression over Hell's creation, committed suicide. I love this interpretation so much because it shows God as almighty, but still a character with flaws and an ego, but still a sense of good as shown when he regrets creating Hell and tries to undo it. Also the thought that a situation becomes so hopeless that even God would resort to suicide is so terrifyingly depressing and very fitting for Ultrakill's story.
22:13 it’s a bit more complicated than that. The Miracle does exist, but it’s got a “chicken or egg” relationship with the High Wills. Blasphemous 2 even happening shows that since it takes place after you kill the High Wills, but the Miracle is still acting

The holler comment was what REALLY had your southern going on lol (south carolina here). Great video, as always, and i really hope things get better for you mentally/emotionally. If you ever need to talk to someone or just simply vent im here any time.
For me The truth from full metal alchemist is a really great depiction of god
And to complete the trilogy, favorite depictions of Death!
Death from Puss in Boots: the Last Wish should definitly be in it
The editing of the intro is amazing and the immediate drop into a depiction of god you know you can cover is such a brilliant touch to a stellar video. I liked your depictions of the devil video and can’t wait to watch your favourite depictions of hell!
my favorite is probably the Outsider from Dishonored (ive only played the first game and the 2 Daud DLCs)
he just gives people super powers then eats popcorn
There's a difference between a god from different polytheistic religions and mythologies where they are powerful and accompanied by other similarly powerful gods but can still be defeated/usurped versus the monotheistic religion of the Abrahamic God where they are far more powerful and omnipotent than any other god depicted throughout other cultures.
Pancake is so underrated with these movie commentraries but these lowkey morbid topics always give me a sense of dread
More people really need to see Angel’s Egg. Easily one of my fav films of all time.
its so ass lmao
Indie game "Off" takes places in a world where god is a dying child. Which means, just like its god, the world is both very young and dying at the same time. It is very sad, a bit disturbing, and also poetic in its own weird way. It's a fairly short game but I like it a lot, it's free and not that well known, you should give it a try !
Love finding a new favorite RUclips channel!!
Another amazing video!!! Will definitely give mind game a watch after this!
Ahh, a perfect video to edit my Dual Links deck to
God, in Acid House - it became my fav character from the whole... thing, since the 1st time I watched it (and I still LOVE that performance, just rewatched it, again!XD)
I love this series. You have such a plethora of mefia references.
I would love to hear your fave Trickster gods
a little surprised that futurama isn't on here, but to each his own
Stanley parable is definitely a example of god narrator in a snarky, funny, and depressing way. A experience of fascinating and trippy gameplay.
Futurama's is a personal favourite of mine, the idea of god being some sort of nebula computer deity that simultaneously speaks in binary and actual hearable vocals that sets these massive plans in motion to teach people lessons is really interesting to me.
I’ve been waiting for this!!
I guess that it's divine intervention that I finally found the'The World's End' movie which I was looking for the whole week
I love that Stranger Than Fiction gets the shoutout here, it's possibly my favourite movie ever, Emma Thompson is just delivering on all cylinders non stop.
Gotta shoutout the God from Futurama "You were doing well until everyone died"
Only just started the video, but wamna say, you had my interest, but i literally went "Oh, "9"? Really?" And now you have my attention.
Great vid as always! Frankenstein is one of my favourite books
The blasphemous god and just the idea of an uncaring and cruel god always gets me. Like something I can't look away from.
For anyone interested Noragami just wrapped up the manga this year and is one of the most interesting depictions of gods I've ever read. Wish we could get a season 3 for the anime though I doubt it lol
Also not sure if Ryou from Devilman Crybaby falls more under 'god' or 'angel' but that ending has stayed in my head for years now like damn
that remix of "Ruler of Everything" was sooooo weird it didn't have as much of the vocal distortion i always expect. Loved it but was confused lmao
fav depiction is your dog in the end.. Doggy god, good god, happy god!
Really interesting subjects and examples man, keep the videos coming! You got a new subscriber my guy.
Netflix's Lucifer not being on here is a crime
Only God Forgives is an extremely weird movie and very hard to recommend to people, but it is very excellent. That got you subscribe right there. That and you having a whole video on Zahler which is also a great video.
And of course, your devil videos, which is what I was first recommended by the algorithm. Thankfully. Keep up the good work. This is great stuff.
It's best used as an example for Alien Deities. Their very nature is extraterrestrial.
Glob and Golb from Adventure Time
Glob is powerful as hell but when he's not on the clock he's just some dude, i love him
Golb is a being beyond everything that lives only to sow chaos
I'm not sure if it technically counts but one of my favorite depiction of a "god" is yaldaboth from persona 5, the idea that a god was born because society seeked to be controlled is so cool to me
I LOVE 9 ITS SUCH AN UNDERRATED FILM
mind game's depiction of god not having a concrete appearance reminds me of the contumelia from the finale of ben 10 omniverse, who are a race of fifth-dimensional aliens that used a superbomb to cause the big bang that created the universe, and since their form isn't comprehensible to third-dimensional beings they appear as "a projection of the thing that holds the most sway in your hearts" (ben sees the mr. smoothy mascot, rook sees his dad, gwen sees grandpa max, kevin sees his car, and the arc's main villain sees himself)
Thanks for another great video dude, give the fluffy pup some scratches for me. :) ❤
The forgotten city just sent me back 10 years. I remember when it was just a mod for Skyrim.
As soon as I saw I have no mouth and I must scream and the longing in the spoiler warnings I knew this was going to be fucking amazing
i appreciate the movie recs!
Jobu tupaki from everything everywhere all at once really fits the themes of a "bored god" that you said you loved, she even becomes nihlistic
Portrait Of God short film is probably my favorite depiction of God
I am really enjoying your videos they are so awesome.
The LORD of the Rings also have Christ-like figures which I like. Its a creative way of telling the story of Christ in a more fantastical medium :))
amazing video, love your interpretations, excited to see more of your videos man!!!
I would also add the depictions of God and the devil in the television show Preacher. which I would highly recommend to anyone. A very fun show. And of course, the graphic novel it is based on. again, great video. Looking forward to more.
I think one of my favorite depictions of God is in Bedazzled. It's not super deep, but God being his cellmate in jail is just a really cool idea.
The moment i saw Mind games, i decided imma gonna watch till the end
This is quickly becoming one of my favourite channels. Thoe one thing i would suggest i a better mic :)
I just watched your other video about your favorite depiction of the devil. Seeing you upload this soon after feels funny
No Greater Will? Also props for the Bruce Almighty and the Ruler of Everything song in the spoiler warning
Also I love you for not just hating on Zack Snyder’s Justice League
God in Neon White is a very good depiction too, even though he doesn't get much screentime.
Dude what is up with your spoiler warnings? They’re way too good! I love them
you had me panicking when you said guardians of the galaxy 2 came out in 2014, it actually came out in 2017. i vividly remember seeing the first guardians of the galaxy movie in theaters with my dad in 2014 when i was 10. it was the first superhero movie and the first pg13 movie i ever saw in theaters. i recalculated the timeline of my life for a minute, then googled to make sure i wasn’t going crazy 😂
Oh my god I've been trying to find Splice for years but never could. I saw my stepdad watch it when I was like 7 or something and was horrified and have wanted to watch it for myself (not just the rly weird scene I saw) but could never figure out how to search for it. Here it is.
How could you leave out preacher???!!
I cannot highly enough recommend the shin megami tensei series, each game has compelling depictions of all sorts of mythological figures.
Oooh, loved this!!!!
The movie The Lighthouse, the book Siddhartha and the song Helpless Child by Swans are my favorite depictions of god/divinity
22:13 it’s a bit more complicated than that. The Miracle does exist, but it’s got a “chicken or egg” relationship with the High Wills. Blasphemous 2 even happening shows that since it takes place after you kill the High Wills, but the Miracle is still acting
South Park. That goofy little monster-looking thing.
10/10
"What did you expect me to look like, my son?"
"Well... not like THAT!!"
Bro I was just about to fucking mention that best depiction of the Christian God in any media ever imo he's also a Buddhist and pretty chill dude aswell 😂
2:33 TALLY HALL MENTIONED 🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
