Today, I went to Vinh Long to enjoy some life in the countryside of the Mien Tay. As I arrived from Saigon, we first headed out to Anh Hao's family home to start the prep for the food. Anh Hao had just finished catching some baby clams and we started the prep work. I had many choices for lunch but we ended up picking sour soup so we had to run to the market where I was able to observe many veggies and herbs that I had no clue what they were.
After that we returned and continued preparing the food. More friends and loved ones showed up to help. I showed that I have lost all my skills in the kitchen. So instead I just observed and learned from the professionals. Sour soup, braised snake head fish, and a stir fried baby clam dish made the table for lunch.
It was a fantastic meal and flavors I will remember for a long time.

Sweet and sour soup and braised chillies fish are my favourite.
This is such a great video! Love seeing the beautiful scenery, all that fish being kept alive so they stay super fresh!, that sweet & friendly lady Tam and most of all, Anh Hao's family were so nice and welcoming!

“Backward” is not true.
7:00 she said "đồng", it means "field" in "rice field". "Cá rô đồng" is a type of perches that lives naturally in rice fields, or lives in nearby river systems for irrigation.

I grew up in Da Lat in 1970 to 1975, this brings back a lot of memories of my childhood, as my mother cooked from an open stove too. My brother as young as 8 was responsible for making the fire for the stove and cooked the rice. Me.. I was four and just cause trouble...

what a beautiful place. I love the idea of trying home cooked meals, it's the best way to enjoy authentic traditional dishes. Vietnamese foods are one of the best, everything looks fresh, healthy & almost vegetarian. well done max, your Vietnamese will definitely improve 👍🏻
