Indio Hills Badlands - an amazing desert hike through slot canyons and windcaves!

One of the best hikes in the Coachella Valley is the newly opened Indio Hills Badlands Trail. While the trail itself was opened in 2020, it was a combination of three pre-existing trails that locals and visitors alike had been hiking for years. At 5.2 miles roundtrip, the trail leaves directly from Indio, and heads across the desert before entering into the San Andreas fault sculpted Indio hills and badlands. With wind caves, slot canyons, and other features carved from the sedimentary rocks, this hike features something for every hiker to see, and is a great introduction to exploring either nearby Joshua Tree, or more remote hikes in the Mojave. As with any desert hike, hikers should judge the time of year and day that they attempt this route accordingly.
