Make sure you either replace the flywheel bolts (WHT 009 773 for dual mass flywheel) and use green loctite (VW part number D 200 005 A2), The oil was probably leaking through the bolts and who ever fitted the clutch thought it was the crank seal and replaced it (and made an arse out of it)...

Concerning the main seal tool. Use the timing pin with the black knob for diesel engines. The red one is for gasoline engines. (Some places one the web, they got this wrong, even at one of the places they sell them). And remember to lock the engine on TDC. You have to take of the cam belt cover and the pulley.

The part that you thought was AdBlue injector is an exhaust backpressure generating flap for the EGR system. Ad Blue injector if present is located on top side of DPF next to timing belt cover on left hand drive cars. The rear main seal has to be fitted with engine in TDC as the tone ring for the crank sensor has to be in correct location. Also install the seal as dry as possible, teflon seals will leak if there is oil or grease on contact surfaces.

Hi Dean I’m not 100%sure but I think you will need to set the timing to TDC before fitting the rear crank shaft seal as from memory the sensor attached to the oil seal sends a pulse to the ECU telling it the position of the pistons so the injectors can spray the fuel at the correct time or something like that I know if it’s out of alignment it won’t run correctly🤔the blue tab at the top is to stop the pulse ring from coming out and to make sure it’s 100%in the correct place when fitting it,, Great uploads by the way an very interesting content👍👍

  • @JamesAllen300

Something else worth noting when it comes to DPF. If the car has any fault codes stored in the PCM, then the car won't do its auto regen. ALL faults have to be rectified until the regen can then take place. This goes for forced regen too. Understanding how DPF systems work is key to figuring out what is going on. I've seen so much money thrown down the drain when DPF's have been replaced when infact the actual fault was in the pressure sensor giving a false reading. This proves have live data and pressure testers to back up what the scan tool is saying is key.

I can't believe it's £170 for the rear main oil seal, at least it was easy to change considering the circumstances. Good result to find a new clutch in there, you seemed happy with the flywheel on the test drive so hopefully it'll be fine for years to come. I guess from the "doctored up" comment that you read my ramblings on the last video. Apologies if it offended you, hopefully you're not too bothered as you got the car cheap as a result of people's reluctance. I've been burned too many times on salvage cars over the years, I could start a RUclips channel about it but no-one would want to see me grumpy all the time! I think you did alright on this one but the costs are rising fast, hopefully you can find someone breaking one in colour and you can get the bumpers, wing and a piece of OS sill for a fair price. That is correct, the object he pointed the camera at is the exhaust flap. Its a part of the low pressure egr system. When the engine is cold and you start it up the flap restricts exhaust from exiting the tail pipe and instead the exhaust gases are recirculated in the low pressure egr system and entering the intake again. This also helps the dpf and catalytic converter to build heat faster which helps with the emissions.

There is a TSB for the oil leak which i found on my AutoData.
    Cause

    Remedy
    Parts
Retaining bolt Refer to manufacturer 6
    Thread sealing compound D 000 600 A2 1
    Remove transmission assembly.
Remove flywheel and discard retaining bolts.
Thoroughly clean threads on new flywheel retaining bolts and crankshaft.
Apply thread sealing compound to new flywheel retaining bolts as shown Fig.1253694.1. (I have got pic)

Make sure you don't have to drop the sump first to put on that rear main mate.

I had a 65 plate vRS that I took to 168k. That DPF will be full of ash, and the engine will burn oil. Definitely no adblue though. Mine slurped 2l of oil per 1,000 miles by the end. I sold it for £6k in 2020. I guess it would be worth more now, despite the oil burn. Looks like a moon white or laser white front bumper has been put on a candy white car.

I looked in the first part when you started the car, and now in the garage, it seems to me that there is no coolant in it!!!
According to WV regulations, coolant liquid is bright pink and should be visible in the container.
    Check it!

I dont understand why a 63 plate car would have Ad Blu. Would that not be fitted on cars after 2016 at the earliest?

Are you sure it’s done only 131k miles? Is it clocked? My Passat 240 looks in far better condition at 160k.

the rear seal is just a bandaid. Its caused by excessive crank case pressure , blow by at the piston rings or valve seals turned plastic. Or both.

@@SavingSalvage theres a reason they had to replace it...you will find leaks at the front seal and valve cover too.
