Step 1: Make The Catnip Barley Risotto
Ingredients
* 4 cans fancy feast ocean whitefish
* 2 whole fish (trout or something?)
* 1 bottle catnip
* ½ cup pre-cooked barley
* 1 big bowl of spinach
1) Add whole fish to an instant pot with some catnip. Pressure cook on high for 20 minutes. Strain the fish stock.
2) Add hot fish stock to fresh spinach in a vitamix and puree.
3) Add the barley to a pan with spinach white fish catnip stock and simmer while constantly stirring until all the liquid has absorbed, about 8 minutes. Let cool and reserve.
Equipment
* Instant Pot
* Vitamix
* Strainer
* Large sauce pot
* Large saucepan
Step 2: Make Salmon Pumpkin Pate
Ingredients
* 2 filets salmon, skin-on
* 1 pumpkin
1) Poach salmon in simmering water for 10 minutes, until just cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.
2) Skin squash and boil until fully cooked.
3) Hand chop the salmon with the squash to create a bright orange paste.
Equipment
* Cutting Board
* Knife
* 2 medium sauce pots
* Paper towels
Step 3: Sous Vide Chicken Liver Mousse and Assemble
Ingredients
* 8 ounces raw chicken livers
* 2 raw egg yolks
* Bottle of catnip
1) Clean livers and add to a sous vide bag along with catnip.
2) Remove livers from sous vide, pat dry on paper towels, then add to a food processor with raw egg yolks.
3) Add a large ring mold to a plate. Layer on barley risotto, salmon pate, and chopped liver.
Equipment
* 1 large stock pot with water
* Vacuum sealer
* Sous vide machine
* Food processor
* Plate
* Ring mold

The cooking was a side quest. The video was made just as a way for Josh to talk about his cat, and show us videos of his cat.

Remember when you were a child and wanted a store bought cake for your birthday, but your mom made a beautiful homemade cake and you were just so unappreciative of her hard work? Same thing.

I usually helped make my birthday cake because I was the high maintenance child who wanted a jello cake for his birthday. Jello cake is just so simple, though. Bake boxed white cake mix per the instructions, then pop them out of the pans, let them cool for a bit, put them back in the pan and perforate aggressively with skewers. Mix up two boxes of jello of your choice using the jiggler instructions on the box and pour the hot jello mixture over the perforated cake. Allow to cool a bit then fridge until fully set. Use an offset spatula or butter knife to extract the cake layers. Assemble using Cool Whip instead of icing or frosting. If you want a more flavorful frosting and want it to be even bougier, then blend a box of Jello mix into the whipped cream with some sugar and allow to sit for five minutes to allow the gelatin to bloom, then whip until stiff peaks form. It'll make a much stiffer whipped cream with lots of flavor.
After years of Rhett's cat-hating commentary, it's nice to have Josh giving cats the love and appreciation they so rightly deserve.
There's an "Ear Biscuits" podcast episode, "Rhett's New Feline Friend," where Rhett talks about adoring a friendly cat he met on his walks. There is a sad ending to the story, but it was still so nice to hear Rhett FINALLY understand how cat people feel.

I know he plays his dislike up a lot for the show and Link has a cat now so I hope they will both give the kitties a chance. :)

Pippen rejecting homemade gourmet cat food for Fancy Feast is the most cat-like result that could’ve happened for the episode. Probably for the best, though. If he’d ended up preferring the homemade food, then good luck ever getting him to eat regular food again.

Its like when I bought my littlr brother a tablet for Christmas and he played with a box all day. Or I made him a fancy hot chocolate and he didn't like it because it had cinnamon in it. I have lots of pets and younger siblings and they all do this to me yet I continue to try.

Today: Josh learns that cats are creatures of instinct and habit. I knew immediately this was setting up for Josh's cat to ignore his work.
There's a right way to do this but it depends on the feeding regimen and environment. The cat has to be introduced to your dish independent of his mealtimes but at a time between them where he'd be compelled to eat because it is good and not because it's time to eat. You then gauge how much your cat eats of it's regular food at it's regular mealtime.
In order for something like this to work, your cat can't have any other compulsive reason to eat other than it being that time in the day, so it can't compete with other cats for the meal, and it can't be very hungry because it's been a significant time since it last ate or has worked up an appetite through extended exercise or play. Your cats feeding schedule would need to be multiple times a day, and the cat would need to be used to the intervals.
