For the US, in the long term India could pose challenges in world business order, key decisions etc because of its independence approach. US wants India to be a Market place only. Not a technology producer or maker. US wants India to depend on them. Hence, India should balance both US, Russia, France and other countries in terms of defence planning.

As lndia is currently building it's indigeneous Nuclear powered SSN & SSBN Submarines to acquire lethal underwater sea power, it's a strategic move to also acquire lethal air power by having it's own long range strategic power. India has a victorious, professional & battle-hardened army has shown in all it's previous wars & recently in Galwan whereby 60-70 invading chinese soldiers were butchered in face to face & hand to hand combat whereas lndia's casualties was due to coward ambush on them under the cover of darkness plus slipped & fall down the slopes. With the lethal weapons & assets, the lndian Army shall cement their might further.

It is a good idea to have 3 squadrons of TU-160 - one in the East, one in the west and one in the South - all adapted for the needs of the region, including fast mobilised convoys while the squadron in the South is modified for destroying warships and air craft carriers.
However, T-160 must fit into a more modern scenario wherein the squadrons are supported by long range missiles that can reach targets intended for T-160.
Missiles can be modified for live relay of images to command centers with capability to reprogram these missiles to circle and strike targets from behind enemy lines ahead of T-160 take off.

17th March India responded - Two pilots killed after Army’s Cheetah helicopter crashes near Arunachal’s

23rd April - USA again started - US Army helicopters crash in Alaska, killing 3 soldiers
4th May - India gave a befitting reply - Indian Army chopper with 3 onboard crashes in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district
5th May - USA responded to that reply - U.S F-16 downed near North Korea
8th May - India's counters back with - IAF's flying coffin MiG-21 crashes near Hanumangarh in Rajasthan; three killed.

    Good commentary.
The problem with procuring defence gear from abroad is always fraught with uncertainty. India must stop looking at Russia with the cold war era affection and adopt a more practical and.pragmatic approach towards that country.
That doesn't mean cold shouldering Russia like the anglo saxons have been prodding us to do. Far from that, India should have the best of relations with Russia but stop short of pandering to each and every thing Russian.
It needs to be noted that today's Russia also doesn't consider India a top priority in her foreign policy matters. Today's Russia is too closely aligned with China and too much interested in befriending Pakistan (possibly with Chinese nudging) much to India's indignation.
Today's Russia is just playacting its strategic role with India and there simply isn't much either country can do about this state of affairs in our relationship.
So, the TU Tupolev deal doesn't look like it is going to take off anytime soon. India must invest more on indigenisation of defence equipment and ordinance to the extent possible.
