This is a valuable video recording of a rare model. In Japan, it is retired and cannot be seen flying.

It is very much active here on the island of Mauritius where I live. As far as I remember our police force has been using it ever since I was a child in the 1990s. Very sturdy and reliable helicopters.

I don't see why it can't be seen flying. It's in the video being flown.

Edo, design kind of reminds me of the rotor wing called " Wooly Booly", back yrs ago in my younger days in the vietnam war they were used, but not near so much as the huey, uh1

Já tive oportunidade de ver voando os helicópteros alouette ll e lll, o barulho deles é inconfundível, vi eles também pousados no parque do Ibirapuera, na época a França estava tentando vender ao Brasil, mas acho que não foram comprados.

Are the engines always uncovered on that type of helicopter?

Yes ,there were a lot of choppers built in the 1960s with exposed engines ,llama and others. Mostly in Europe . It worked well enough and technology moved forward.

Why the hell discontinued?? It had such great reputation .. why change a good thing ?? Just like the old 47. ?? Making impossible to operate so damn expensive .. just ridiculous

Completely outdated nowadays, very noisy inside and outside, very high temperature in the cabin during summertime, avionics from the 1960’s. The A3 was an excellent workhorse in the mountains but no chance compared with modern copters in terms of safety and comfort.

This engine was used as APU in jet air liner Vicers VC 10, it was not meant to be an helicopter engine.
