My... poetry brought you thus to me? You are most unusual child, one who would risk to listen with their heart, rather than heed what the mind tells their eyes to fear. Unusual, but kind. Sit with me, here, underneath the tree as it's petals fall. Do you know what kind of tree this is? I am not surprised you do not, for it is rare to find a cherry blossom in these climes. It is beautiful, is it not? Whenever I behold the fall of the blossom I can not help but recite verse. Looking up at them, it is like tears rolling down the cheeks of the sky, tinged with both joy and sorrow... But let me tell you a story young one, about the lost King, who thought he'd left the cherry blossom behind forever.
Now, once upon a time there was a child, much like yourself, with a soul unburdened and a future most bright. He would spend his days reading poems and literature under the cherry tree at the palace, epic tales of love and adventure. However, this boy knew that he had an undertaking of utmost import before him; he would grow, one day, to be King. And so the Princeling set about his duties with fervor most feverish! When he was young, he focused on his martial training, for a king must be strong he knew, so he set upon mastering the art of combat. As he grew older, he came to understand that a King is wise, so he studied both statecraft and tactics, so as to better serve his people. And so as the Crown eventually came to him, he played his part to perfection. He led many charges, fought in many battles, settled many disputes in matters political; truly, though he had little time now for the stories of his youth, and the sentiments of those poems, it mattered not. For now he lived the epic tale, just as he had always dreamed.
However, child, life is a… whimsical thing. Even when you feel invulnerable, untouchable, the winds of fate that had glided you so gently across life’s peaceful waters, can gather into a storm. The King grew… sick. Slowly at first. He noticed a splinter in his hand; a trifling wound of course, especially for one who had seen so much of battle. But it soon turned a strange colour, and the puncture showed no sign of sealing. Hair began to fall from his scalp, and his brow, wisps at first, then in tufts. Before long, open weeping sores began to litter his body, though he cried that he could not feel them, it became evident that he was no longer suited for combat. And so the King retired to his chambers, and returned to the books and poems of his childhood, and suddenly the fantasy he had been living, seemed further from reach than it ever had before. He could never again walk the Kingdom’s streets, never again could he fight at his men’s side, never again could he rejoice in his people’s triumphs, or share the burdens of their sorrow.
And so it was that he ruled in isolation, attended upon only by those few servants brave enough to risk the disease that afflicted him. Returning to the cherry blossom of his boyhood, something so beautiful and hopeful now tinged with melancholy. For all petals must fall, and all beauty must fade. He governed ceaselessly, there was no issue too great or too small that it would not deign his attention, though he wondered… no, he feared, it was all for naught. That he had long since spent his worth, and that the people would suffer now that he had nothing left to give. That they would rebuke him, a picture of strength now made so weak, and warped. Until, that is, he heard of a danger. A danger, most grave, from a foreign land. An evil so incomprehensible as to threaten not just Kingdom, but all those like it. So, one last time, he resolved himself. He would go forth, one last time, for the grace of all that is good. And so, he had his wounds bound, his armor donned, and his sword sharpened, and rode out expecting no other farewell than the mournful song of the bells, echoing through the empty streets.
But… that is not what he would receive. Leaving the palace, he saw them. All of them. All his subjects, such a multitude of faces that it seemed as endless as the night sky, with glittering tears, like stars, hanging off their cheeks… And he understood. They knew all that he had given them. Even when his flesh failed, he gave them his mind. As his mind faded, he gave them his heart. It is funny… all the training, all the studying, and it’s those old boyhood stories that made him worthy of the crown, of the throne… no, of the kingdom, the people themselves. And the crippled King felt himself reborn, in both body and purpose. Even lumbering forth with his dying flesh, their hope breathed new life into him. With every moment his resolve would falter, their trust would birth unto him the will to take another step. And even though his vision grew cloudy, and indeed, he could only see the dark for so long… as he looked at the falling blossoms of the cherry tree, he understood through their love, that beauty is only precious as it fades. That with nothing to lose, you truly never had anything to give. But to give everything… well, there are worse things than to have your petals fall. In the spring, the tree shall bloom anew.
But I am sorry child, your lids grow so heavy! I did not mean to tire you so, precious one, you must be off lest your parents worry. Oh, the story? How does it end? I don’t know as of yet, I must confess. But I will be sure to tell you should I come this way again."

His backstory literally is that he was a king, a well respected, well loved king who not only goes out of his way to help his people that are suffering from Leprosy. Due to the fact that he helped the lepers, he caught leprosy, but rather than blame anyone, he kept firm with his desire to help. When the nobles of his court, greedy as they are, ATTEMPTED to usurp his throne, the King predicted this and literally grabbed the BIGGEST sword there is and KILLED every single one of the rotten nobles. In the end, he realizes that instead of waisting away, he goes out of his city full of clarity to help others, leaving with nothing but his sword, and leaving behind the sad tears of his grateful citizens. That. That right there is a KING.
In this brief moment you have shown leper as a human being, a respected man whom goes against all odds for his people and they arw thankful for that. This is why can solo.
Leper is the biggest gigachad of darkest dungeon, that man got a life threatening disease that desconfigured his face and body, and did he cried or stood weak abt it? Nah, he dwelves into the darkest of dungeons, doesent even flinch upon getting hit, and dishes out tons of damage with a BROKEN sword
So many details here. You see the crown You see the crowd with the petals You see people crying at a loss. I feel the leper was a good king a respected king. Otherwise why show such reverence. He's probably the most tragic and driven hero. Probably has genuine desire to cleanse the dungeon. If I could pick one darkest dungeon hero to have his own book it would be the leper.
@ I mean he was born in Jerusalem and his family he came from was thought to be Jewish also Crusader kings straight up says he is and when I Google it I keep finding answer leaning toward this being the case.
In the sequel, it told that he was a prince who was close to his people and wanted to help them. But those who was close to him was not okay with this, believing it was an outrage that this young king take care of those who would die soon or later because of illness (and mostly because their think if the king is close to the citizens, they will lost their privilege). After getting infected by the illness, the prince have been treased by his right arms who wants to eliminate him and take control of the kingdom. But he fought back and he decided to leave his home to explore the world and enjoy the short time he has.
I used to rule the world Seas would rise when I gave the word Now in the morning, I sleep alone Sweep the streets I used to own I used to roll the dice Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes Listen as the crowd would sing Now the old king is dead, long live the king One minute, I held the key Next the walls were closed on me And I discovered that my castles stand Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringin' Roman Cavalry choirs are singin' Be my mirror, my sword and shield My missionaries in a foreign field For some reason, I can't explain Once you'd gone, there was never, never an honest word And that was when I ruled the world It was a wicked and wild wind Blew down the doors to let me in Shattered windows and the sound of drums People couldn't believe what I'd become Revolutionaries wait For my head on a silver plate Just a puppet on a lonely string Oh, who would ever want to be king? I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringin' Roman Cavalry choirs are singing Be my mirror, my sword and shield My missionaries in a foreign field For some reason, I can't explain I know Saint Peter won't call my name Never an honest word But that was when I ruled the world Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringin' Roman Cavalry choirs are singin' Be my mirror, my sword and shield My missionaries in a foreign field For some reason I can't explain I know Saint Peter won't call my name Never an honest word But that was when I ruled the world

Once a powerful King came in a domain of darkness, seeking hes death, he passed trough decades of battles, hes sworm has worm off, head of the weapon has be broken, but the salvation Leper seeks wasn't yet granted
I'd like to think that both the leaper and the jester both came from the same town, just at a diffrent time or age.
spare the others. I am ready
Here’s me knowing that when people eventually see the crusader, they will never forget it.
🙌👑
WHY ISNT ANYONE TALKING ABOUT THIS
You still replay to comments after all that time ?
Hell you deserve better SO much better but the best I can do is recommend your video or send it to a twitch streamer and HOPE they well see it
😓😅🙏
I am grateful for the recognition. Thank you so much! 🙏
What's interesting is that real Baldvin IV Lepper King of Jerusalem wanted to abdicate but he was such a great king he wasn't allowed
🙌👑
Anyone ever remember that its actually cannon that the leper is blind? So whenever he misses, just remember, he's blind. :)
Leper has the best damage crits imo he can nuke anything provided his blindness dosnt drop his accuracy to -2
Anyone who's mean to him for missing, you nasty. I'd like to see you land hits when you can barely see XD
why does he get stress damage without light then
@@jeremyjd436 probably the atmosphere, and hearing the shaky, panicked voices of his comrades
And when he hits, remember once again he's blind.
That final blow he just landed, he did it without seeing a thing

''Spare the others, I am ready'' - A true monarch
🙌👑
“Petals fall" I didn't realize this was him remembering leaving everything behind till now!
really good work m8
🤜🤛
For him, to live is agony, beauty borne from pain
🙌👑
Pain but is silent.
Only in Darkest Dungeon where you can fight side by side with a leper.
🙌👑
The music fits well
😊🙏
Hail to the King
🙌👑
I would absolutely love animations revealing character details like this, kinda like how klei does it with don't starve
Me too! 🤜🤛
I am bruised but not yet broken.
🙌👑
He should add some holes in that mask cause HE WONT STOP MISSING.
Everyday is Monday for the leper
the dragon priest mask doe
Deed outside, burning inside.
A tragic tale of a compassionate king.
🙌👑
In this brief moment you have shown leper as a human being, a respected man whom goes against all odds for his people and they arw thankful for that. This is why can solo.
🤜🤛
A king, loved by his people. Infected for daring to care for his sick. Man was GOATed before even donning the armor and mask
🙌👑
Bro the music is fire. I love your animations
🙏😊
I like to think that it was this theatrical for all 12 of my lepers when they left to the hamlet
😊
Leper with the jester are the most op team in this game
Love it. You made so much more out of the comic strip and the music is an awesome choice and a great contribution to the atmosphere.
🙏😊
Great choice of music, great piece of work!
😊🙏
Leper is the biggest gigachad of darkest dungeon, that man got a life threatening disease that desconfigured his face and body, and did he cried or stood weak abt it? Nah, he dwelves into the darkest of dungeons, doesent even flinch upon getting hit, and dishes out tons of damage with a BROKEN sword
🙌👑
He is not a king...he is a legend.
Hail to the... legend! 🙌
God be with you, Lord Baldwin.
🙌👑
Honestly, Leper is my favorite of the entire roster, followed closely by Renault, Abomination, Bounty Hunter, Jester, and then Houndmaster.
🙌👑
So many details here.
You see the crown
You see the crowd with the petals
You see people crying at a loss.
I feel the leper was a good king a respected king. Otherwise why show such reverence.
He's probably the most tragic and driven hero. Probably has genuine desire to cleanse the dungeon.
If I could pick one darkest dungeon hero to have his own book it would be the leper.
🙌👑
What a beautiful art style
Clap for the authors!

I love how the Strongest boi in the game is based off of King Baldwin IV like some Jewish rep is fucking dope in my favorite turn base RPG
Nice profile pic.
Hail the king! 🙌
*hebrew
@ I mean he was born in Jerusalem and his family he came from was thought to be Jewish also Crusader kings straight up says he is and when I Google it I keep finding answer leaning toward this being the case.
a kind and caring king he did not deserve this fate
He's basically king Baldwin the IV
Yes! 😉
Spare the others. I'm ready.

Leper is the Tachanka of DD
He then proceeded to solo the last dungeon.

I can't see what that is. Soooo. I'm going to assume it's a compliment.
@@The24thWight 😅😅😅😅 Sorry about that. Edited comment.

*>tfw existence and adversity are one and the same*
Obra-prima 👏🏻

Feel sad for Chad. Regardless if you succeed in the darkest dungeon, his life is unfortunate
😢
In the sequel, it told that he was a prince who was close to his people and wanted to help them. But those who was close to him was not okay with this, believing it was an outrage that this young king take care of those who would die soon or later because of illness (and mostly because their think if the king is close to the citizens, they will lost their privilege).
After getting infected by the illness, the prince have been treased by his right arms who wants to eliminate him and take control of the kingdom. But he fought back and he decided to leave his home to explore the world and enjoy the short time he has.
👏
I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning, I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own
I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing
Now the old king is dead, long live the king
One minute, I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand
I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringin'
Roman Cavalry choirs are singin'
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason, I can't explain
Once you'd gone, there was never, never an honest word
And that was when I ruled the world
It was a wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn't believe what I'd become
Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh, who would ever want to be king?
I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringin'
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason, I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world
Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh
Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh
Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh
Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh
Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh
I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringin'
Roman Cavalry choirs are singin'
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world
😢
So he's essentially King Baldwin?
Inspired by, certainly. With the difference that he preferred to dedicate his last days to fighting the horrors of the darkest dungeon rather than dying as king. 🤜🤛
nicely done!
