HP 10th generation laptop doesn't detect SSD when installing windows fix

  • This is applicable to laptops with 10th and 11th-generation processors running on SSD drives.
    This usually happens when you want to install Windows 10 on a new SSD drive OR install a fresh copy of Windows 10 on the existing SSD drive
    #Note: you need to download the drivers( Intel Rapid Storage Technology) from your laptop manufacturer's website.
    For Hp Users.
    Steps in this video.
    1. Go to HP Software and Driver Download website. support.hp.com...
    2. Click on laptop.
    3. Type the serial number, product number, or product name to go to the software and drivers page for your computer model.
    4. Under Driver-Storage, download the Intel RST driver (RAID) driver to your desktop.
    5. Double-click on the downloaded file and change the installation location to your Windows 10 bootable USB drive.
    6. Now at we couldn't find any drives in the Windows installation step.
    7. Click Load driver.
    8. Click Browse to navigate to the location of the driver. ( which is your bootable USB drive).
    9. Click the F6 folder, and then click OK.
    10. Select either driver option in the list and then click Next.
    The drive is displayed.
    Click Format to format the drive, and then click Next to start the Windows installation.
    Asus Users can try this
    --Disable VMD controller from BIOS in advanced mode.
    DELL Users can try this.
    --Disable intel rapid storage technology in the bios.
    For Lenovo users
    --Disable Intel VMD to make the PCI devices visible again.

    This is the 3rd 10th gen HP I've been annoyed with Windows not seeing the drive, and this fixed it. I installed it, found F6 folder and inside was VMD and two drivers just like yours, after it loaded the drive magically appeared, thanks so much ITM!

    My drive is non RAID. I can get to the point of clicking the f6 folder, however I find alot of drivers, of which the VMD controller is absent. the type of my chipset is NvMe

      Which laptop are you using?
      Just select the f6 folder and click ok.
      Check the hide drives that aren't compatible box as well.
