You are absolutely right, the Budapest Christmas market is overpriced. However, the Hungarian forint is very week against euro. So basically, you paid 600 Huf for a chimney cake, girl that's only 1,5Euro! 😀 The most expensive mulled wine is 1500-1800 Huf that's 3,90-4,5 Euro. That's still cheaper than in Vienna... You can have a fancy steak dinner for less than 60eur/2 person, that would be at least 3-400eur in Vienna.🙂
Yes, I'm not so much comparing it to the prices at other markets. Because you can find cheaper food and drink at the Bratislava market, or if you go somewhere like Vienna and Munich it will be more expensive. I was comparing the prices at the market to what you can pay elsewhere in the city. I was fine paying 600 Huf for the chimney cake, but at the market they were charging 2000 for it. Most of the food I saw was 2-4x the cost of what you'd pay at a normal shop or restaurant. So the markups on prices at the markets seemed unusually high to me.
