Thank you! I was just thinking I needed a video about fasting especially as a Catholic. Thank you Amber ❤💕 My family in my household doesn't really fast except for no meat during Lent and even that is not taken well But I would like to fast more properly. Blessed week! ^_^
Peanut butter sandwich, cottage cheese, bananas are all decent options that I like. I work a pretty physical job but I am trying to follow the rules better so stuff that is nutritionally dense but simple is what I look at. I like to try to keep my energy up but still feel a little discomfort to keep my mind tuned to God! Good video and thanks for sharing your ideas! :)
I abstain from meat on Friday year-round, so I have a few favorites. Tuna sandwich, cereal with yogurt and fruit, peanut butter on toast, vegetable soup, grilled cheese sandwich... If I'm feeling nostalgic, fish sticks and mac&cheese.
I honestly thought Catholics fasted/abstained more than that. Has it always been like that or was it more strict at some point in the past? In the Orthodox Church we fast/abstain for half the year. In Lent we abstain from meat, fish, dairy and oils on weekdays, so we just eat bread and vegetables basically, but we can have oil on weekends, and in some tradition fish too. And for the first week of Lent, we don't eat anything at all between Sunday night and Wednesday at 4pm, when we have some bread, then we don't eat again until Friday at 4pm when we have bread and vegetables. There are other fasts in the year such as the Dormition Fast, Nativity Fast and Apostles Fast which are not quite as strict, though it varies a little depending on local tradition and individual health and piety. And every Wednesday and Friday we cut out meat, fish and dairy and try to eat relatively lightly. It's haaaard sometimes, but your Priest will usually discuss it with you and set it at the right level for you to gain the most spiritual benefit from it, so not everyone does it to the full degree. That's the ideal though, and many if not most who are serious about their Faith do follow it. It could be that the difference is because in the Orthodox East we follow the monastic fasting regime as (from what I understand) the Cathedral Rite was abolished during the iconoclasm crisis because it had got so infested with heresy, and the Monastic Rite was made the standard.
My new job requires Manual Labor. I'm working in a heavy Equipment industry. Right now, I am having just kind of a soup in the morning and one full meal in the afternoon. At night, I don't eat. If I get assigned in the field, I guess I could have two full meals a day and no meal at night, depending on the weight of the job. Is that allowed? Or will that still be called fasting? Also, you quoted what Jesus said about Fasting, but when someone, like my friends and family members insists that I eat, or ask me about the reason why I don't eat, I just tell them that I am fasting. Well, It's not literal after all. We still have to assess the situation, wisdom is still needed.
Traditionally, those who do manual labour are exempt from fasting, (though still refrain from meat on Fridays and ember days during lent). Duty of state can't have us passing out and being a burden on others. I'm just a cleaner and I can't do severe forms of fasting, I get serious jelly legs accompanied by fuzz brain, so I try other forms of depriving myself.
Fasting without prayer is merely starvation
Thank you for this
Thanks
Honestly helps too. In some ways, prayer puts your mind in a different place and you don’t recognize the hunger anymore.

I am from India. Over here when we fast we completely avoid all non vegetarian food like fish, eggs etc.
Thank you for this video Amber! It is brief and very informative, accurately answering common questions about fasting and abstinence. God bless you!

I love breakfast food. I even eat it for dinner.
Thank you Amber 🙏🏻🤗
I was hoping you'd talk about WHY we're required to abstain from meat.... 3:02

aww I listened to this really FASTTT ;)
I love canned tuna 🐟
Why do we fast? Jesus said "When" you fast, not "If" you fast. 💙
🙏🏻💪🏻
I'm allergic to avocado, bananas and shellfish
Whenever I think of fasting, I think of fast food. 😂
Amber, Catholicism is not of God.
What!?
