    I bought an i7 13700k and 4080 pc 2 weeks ago. I've a 1440p, 165 hz monitor. Playing MS flight simulator 40th Edition on ultra settings it's absolutely smooth and fast. Swapped out my cheap case fans for Noctua fans to keep the temps low, I'm very happy with this combination.

      I’ve actually been wanting to make a 4080 build too, but I’m still hesitating, because the 50 series might come out soon, and I’ve heard that it will be a very large jump from the 40 series in terms of performance. I know there will always be new generation and gpus will keep evolving, but still.

    • @catch22frubert
      @catch22frubert Год назад +8

      @@HarierSyauqi2503 Dude, the jumps in performance won't be more than 10% to 15% maximum in the near future. Nvidia took big jumps the last few generations because the chip makers, like TSMC and Samsung, were able to shrink the process node and transistor sizes in Nvidia's GPU Chips from 14nm all the way down to 4nm now with the 4000 series. I'm guessing the 4000 series GPUs will be around until they can get good production quality out of the 3nm process. There isn't really any point in making new GPUs until TSMC has 3nm perfected. If Nvidia can make the RTX 5000 series GPUs with the 3nm process successfully, they might get more like 15% to 20% better performance. They are only getting 1nm smaller with the next process node, so it's gonna be difficult and more expensive to even hit 10% to 15% better. In the past, they went from 14nm to 10nm to 8nm and now they went from 7nm down to the 4nm they use for the RTX 4000 series. Just dropping to 3nm isn't going to be a huge jump

    • @catch22frubert
      @catch22frubert Год назад +6

      @@kennY_72 That's not a great plan my friend. Even though the RTX 4090 is $400 more, you get 40% to 50% better performance vs the RTX 4080. The RTX 4090 is a Much better value and really the only good GPU upgrade in the RTX 4000 series. The 7900XTX is around $950 and dropping, and performance wise, it keeps up with or beats the $1200 RTX 4080, and the 7900XTX even does pretty good with Ray Tracing. So, hopefully you can see why the choice should be between the 7900XTX for $950ish or the RTX 4090. The RTX 4090 is a monster of a GPU, and it is the King of graphics cards right now. It doesn't make any sense to buy a RTX 4080 for about $1300 after tax, when you can get the same or better performance from the 7900XTX at $950-$1000. I'm personally willing to play games at 1440p 240hz if it's a good QD-OLED monitor like the Alienware QD3423DWF or the LG 27" WOLED display. I would rather get 240fps at 1440p. I currently have an LG 27GP850-B and it's a beautiful 1440p 180hz IPS display, and I've never really liked IPS displays because of low contrast rates, but the newer good IPS displays are incredible. Still doesn't match with a QD-OLED or LG's newer OLED displays or the C2 or C3 OLED 42" or 48" TVs, but the price brackets are nowhere near each other right now.

      The average fps of the 5800x3d for the most popular titels seems to be around 190. The average fps for the 4080 in 1440p ultra for those same titels is 180. Meaning the cpu and gpu are almost perfectly balanced, or slightly GPU bottlenecked.
      In 4k though, which is what the 4080 is marketed for its a massive GPU bottleneck where the 5800x3d isnt even being utilized to 50%. 4080 produces around 110 fps for those same titles.
      As clearly stated, the 5800x3d is perfectly balanced for 1440p with the 4080, and for 4k its even overkill.

So we want to save money and buy the i5 13600k but now you only hit 540 fps in those games, but ffs you monitors refresh rate is lower than that anyway. Okay you get better response times with higher fps, but cmon 60fps difference is not changing anything there either. If you play 4K gaming only broken games will need a top CPU for sure. I met only one borken game Terminator: Dark Fate, it used only 1 core in first mission and GPU wasn't used for 99%, but this mistake can't work even on top CPU, cos of 1 core won't be enough. The main sense that it's not a problem to update CPU, but if you buy top CPU it's hot and expensive. Why should somebody pay more? I9-9900K was great, but 2 years pasted it became worse than I5-11600K. Your top CPU will be a middle-range in 2-3 years. It's non-sense to buy top cpu and see like it works 10-20% in game in 4K

But for the rule of thumb if you can afford top of the line GPU, there is no point in buying middle-range CPU. In 2-3 years your whole PC will be middle-rage, not only CPU. GPU will age even faster.
