First off: Thank you for your service! Salute! Your vid’s are always awesome AF! Wondering if you and Steve Wallis have further discussed a colab camping trip. 2 good dudes hunkering down in the woods. Thanks for the great content. Have a plan for everything. I know your time commitment to prepare and present your presentation is a gift. Thanks for the gift. My father was a career soldier. Served WWII on a destroyer to Okinawa. We, my late brother & I, even had dad's Korea War issue K-Bar to drag along!. Also, we had shelter 1/2s, canteens and stainless steel mess kits and utinsels. When the base quartermaster condemned a bunch of down sleeping bags, dad "saved" several from the dump, mom hand sewed the rips & tears, and we slept as warm as if we'd been @home... I have been watching you for about three years. I find all your videos inspiring and interesting. I now have my 12 year old son watching with me. This summer we are going to try and recreate one of your shelters. Thank you sir!!
There is no reason for you to apologize we are here to be entertained and learn things from you what you put up is perfectly fine and the true fans here know that stay safe and keep it coming
I have spent the last 40 years dealing with people and training them. I have found that you can give out the same info every day and after a long period of time someone will ask a question about the same info you have been putting out. Don't get upset. Give them a quick answer and drive on. We all look up to you. You are a great trainer. Great stuff.
Never apologize for a vendor failing to ship what you ordered. Not your fault--that's on the vendor. You had your premise for the camp and what you wanted to use. You stuck to it even though not all the equipment you paid for was delivered. I'd say your adapt and persevere worked 100%. Few people get to a campsite with everything they *meant* to bring. In those cases, they either adapt or they complain about circumstances they can't control. Adapting is a teaching experience. Complaining is just boring. Your videos are never boring!
wish I could give you another thumbs up just for your attitude about not responding to comments when it is obvious that they didn't watch the video, good for you
Hi 🙋♂️, love this.. Predator jokes will never get old... and yeah, oc it was the Knight Rider... ( in his dreams ) Nice to use still old school gear. Stay healty and have a good time 🇨🇭🙋♂️
You have nothing to apologize for, infact we should thank you. In a survival situation we may not have everything we need or can only find some of what we need. In this video you showed us how to adapt, improvise and over come our short falls and to make the most of what we have, thank you.
For all the reasons to watch a video until the end, that one was an instant classic. Outstanding work as always, and thank you so much for showcasing this gear. I learn something every video! Chili mac is definitely my vote for holy grail gear, but chicken ala king with the freeze dried peaches and making a cobbler is a close cold war era 2nd. You never forget your first, as they say. It's true for love as it is for MREs, haha.
Hello. Love your content. I used to live off grid for 6 years and I really miss it. And watching your videos gives me so many ideas for when I decide to go off grid again. Or just camping for a few days. Awesome ideas and great content. Keep it up.
My dad was a green beret in the special forces and taught me a lot of these skills when I was young. We would go hiking/camping for 2 weeks at the time, and he would deliberately get us "lost" so he could teach me land navigation skills and to find our way back to the trail or truck. These videos bring back a lot of memories and makes me appreciate what little time we had together. He passed away August 25th last year and I want to go do some camping and utilize the skills he taught me. Your videos have helped me to remember some things and learn a lot that he didn't have the time or know how to teach me. Thank you for the content man, he would have liked this stuff too.
And........I've just bought your tee-shirt and donated another 1 GBP to charity, because you are a superstar!!! Thank you soooooo much, for your content and time on here, Sir!!!
The "carrying case" for the white gas stove is actually a cup and pot for the stove and the "wrench" works as the handle for both. Dual purpose to save weight and space. Used and loved this stove in the 60s and 70s.
I don’t skip through any videos because that the whole point of learning is to watch the whole thing because your videos isn’t boring like most others are
thank you for your honest and skill. i am ex British army and I think I have learnt more watching your channel then I did in 18 years of service. I thank you.
I appreciate when you improvise. Life doesn't always (ever?) hand you a perfect situation with exactly the right equipment. Knowing alternative ways to solve a problem or meet a need is helpful! And my dad put Tabasco on his eggs and a few other things. Every time you use it I'm reminded of him. 🥰
I don't comment very much on any videos. I just wanted to say I love your videos. Your videos are what made me want to get out and camp more. I have learned alot from your videos and just wanted to say thank you.
I can honestly say that yours is one of the few channels that I never skip any part of the video. I can’t wait for my girls to get a little older and take camping like my father took me camping. Also, my father served in the Army in Vietnam and was there during the Tet offensive. I appreciate the brief history behind the gear that you used. Keep up the great videos!
Really nice to know girls are being taken camping, we love it too! Fishing, hiking, building fires, shooting, hunting ... all things girls enjoy as much as boys.
As a Vietnam Grunt serving 1970-71 we had no internal frame on our Rock Sacks. Only an external frame. A case of C-Rations came with a heavy cardboard sleeve that fit over the case with baling wire holding it into place. We used the cardboard wired to our frame to keep the contents of our ruck from poking us in the back on our long humps across Vietnam.
Hey Corporal, a little story for you. When I was growing up in New Hampshire, my extended family needed help clearing out an old house my brother in law inherited from his dad, who passed away 5 years before. I was about 15 at the time. My brother inlaws dad was a ww2 veteran, so he had all kinds of mess kits, tarps, canvas bags (gunny sacs I think they called them), to put it all in. I was told to keep anything I wanted so pretty much all of it. I can't tell you how many hours I spent attempting to use these things. so much fun, but I wish had your videos to actually learn how to use it all. its all gone 37 years later but I had a blast pretending i knew what I was doing. Thanks for being here, especially at such a chaotic time, when these skill are priceless.
For a old time supply Sgt lifer. Of 37 yrs. job well done. They don’t make the gear like the old gear anymore. From the mountains of South Carolina. John.
We have all had rough nights when equipment doesn’t work out quite as we planned. Always enjoy your videos. Thanks for all the time and energy you put into them. Cheers from Canada 👍
Awesome son! I'm 73 years old and joined the Navy in th 60's. But after a few episodes of your experience, if I could go back I swear I'd join the USMC! Awesome lessons brother! Peace be with you! !
We asca family appreciate all your hard work and the creativity you put into these. But as usual, when the Corporal posts, we gather around the TV to watch and discuss as a family.
Love the military surplus gear, let's be honest the majority of us who do this probably started off with used gear they got from family or surplus stores on the cheap. I'm pushing 40 and still have gear I had when I was 14, because it just lasts. More surplus gear videos can never be a bad thing.
Great content. Loved the thought you put into it and the history lesson. I would have thought that Russian gear would have been represented more but availability is King always. Great work and love the Coleman stove.
You know, in Russia we have a similar stove, it's called "Bumblebee"! It uses gasoline, however, the stove has a different way of ignition. I think you should check it out, pretty cool thingy
That Coleman stove is really sweet! I have one of their green two burner models from the 70s and it's built like a tank. It still works great after 40 years.
Your videos are helping me get trough a tough break up and depression. Thanks corporal, thanks for your time, advice and entertainment. Sgt. with the Edegem FD.
I can tell just by watching you that we are vastly different people in life, probably politically, the media we consume etc. However I am glad we share the same country and I heavily enjoy learning from you.
64 years old and although we're in different lines of work, your knowledge, ideas and techniques apply to my life. From the Mora to Sunnuto mc2, and many other pieces of equipment, I've been fortunate to continue evolve a practical solution to mine and my family's needs both in recreation and for my job away from home. OFS
Hey Corporal, I appreciate the work you do and the videos you make. It’s because of you I’ve looked more into camping with as little as I can. Or bush crafting. I have a lot to learn but I’m headed in that direction for sure. Thanks again.
Questions asked about things that are answered already in the video do not necessarily mean people are skipping the video. Sometimes those with failing short term memory ask comments about something before it is covered in the video. I'm sure as an instructor you get that all the time while giving instruction on various subjects. People ask questions when they pop into their heads, because it is difficult to remember what questions you want to ask at the end, unless you are taking notes and the instructor has asked the students to hold questions until the end. Once the question is asked, it is too much trouble to go back and write another comment saying oh, sorry you already answered that question (and I'm a dumbass for asking?), so people just leave the comment there. Sure, some probably are skipping, but I'm confident that most people who watch your videos watch them all the way, and probably watch them more than once. I know I do. Thanks for the great content. I use the same E-tool as you, and even when they started issuing the folding e-tool in the 80's, I still used to carry and use my 1965 one. It's heavier, but much handier. I even took mine to Desert Storm instead of the folding issued one. One thing I like, that you may not know is that they can be used as an off- hand shield/weapon, but if you have fat hands, you'll need to modify it. Just grab the folded shovel by the handle with the shovel face covering your fingers, and you can block with it and strike with it over your fist. You can extend the pick upward as well, giving more area to block with and as a thrusting or hooking weapon. The handle rests along your arm and is effective for blocking with your arm as well. It is also a pretty effective weapon if you just swing it. If you sharpen the edge, it will chop wood and can be used to cut trees down. Biggest I ever cut down with mine was about six inches in diameter, and it did take a while, but it did come down, and the shovel was none the worse for wear. One mod I did to one of mine was to take out the short handle and replace it with a longer handle from a splitting maul. That extra reach and leverage makes it a very good digging tool, and I use it to clean out the bottom of post holes before setting the posts for fencing. Thanks again for the great content.
Having served 10 years in the British armed forces I can say even in that short time the older pattern gear we were issued was far more durable than the new stuff my first issues bergan which was old and worn as all hell when I got it is still going strong no tears or anything the new stuff I was issued 2 something years ago is already getting worn out so old school all day
I’m sincerely grateful for your concise skill training. My only concern is the impact of “Corporal Style” cuisine on your colon/heart health😂. Even though I’m a thru-hiker, using an ul kit for the AT, the skills I’ve learned here have reduced my dependency on equipment. Skills>gear. Thank you
I first discovered your channel during the onset of the pandemic March 2020 and have subscribed since. Continued to watch your videos for 2 years while I was home until I joined back work on ships May 2022. Have been binge watching your videos again and rewatching some of my favorites. No need to apologize for the shelter situation because you've shown, time and again, how we need to adapt to every situation. Kudos and stay healthy and safe. Keep the videos coming!!
If you can hunt down the German Bundeswehr shelter half pup with original poles, you should pick up a pair and try that out (though you being 6' might be a bit tight). I say original poles because people always use either East German Zeltbahn or USGI poles and they suck for it. Both halves rolled up, poles and stakes (again, original poles and stakes) rolled in it like in the USGI single half roll, it's both more compact and lighter. It's also got camo on one side (the Flektarn is actually great for Fall woodland) and OD on the other. In winter months, if you WERE to use it (we used either mss or just a poncho leanto after OSUT) having two people in there would be tight but WARM. Wouldn't have the poles right in the middle to knock the tent down, either. I finally broke down and forked out for a Pomoly and sewed a stove jack in, it's very nice for a canvas pup.
Great job Shawn , as for people and their inability to hear you tell them where to get something, they need to learn to listen, use your ears in everything. You don`t you may be bear food. As for the shelter, you did what needed to be done to make it work, life is not always going to go as you plan. Great job and Thanks for all you do . Peace
I never commented before but felt I needed to you and your videos are informative , interesting , and fun to watch new to preping don't have a question just want to say thank you for all your effects awesome job
when you started reading from the guidebook I recited every word you said, man it is amazing that 28 years later, that all that boot camp knowledge is still lodged up in our brain housing group! 😆 I've just recently come across your channel, outstanding content! Semper Fi Brother!
Quick correction at end of your video sir. In US Army, we went from C-Rations to K-Rations, then in 1989, not mid 80's MRE. Then in 1992 MRE was then made into Box A and Box B. After which in 1994va box C was out for awhile. Then discontinued 1999 because of a $3.77 increase per case.. oversight committee decided not to spend the additional $3.77 per case.. Just some insight of how our government decides things for those who are willing to pay the ultimate price for our security and freedom. God Bless Brother.
OUTSTANDING!!! I like how you think about the old days in the service !! As a retired veteran, I still find myself doing the same.. Keep kickass on videos and no reason for apologies!! Just keep kicking ass and taking names!!!! 🇺🇸
Brother no need to apologise for the fact you are human. Makes it even better, just look up the 6 Ps, no just joking with you I know you have them in your military brain. Watching you in front of the fire, outdoors is just pure zen. I love getting out doors. Its in the DNA of this Aussie. I have learnt so much watching you, and I have a good amount of survival skills having lived in Australia. However someone once said always find people smarter than your self, and you will be successful. Kind Regards Skippy from down under.
I'm a fan of K-Bar type knives. Unfortunately, the military was governed by "How much is it going to cost" and "How Fast can you make them?" So what I have is a full tang Gerber, good steel, insanely sharp, costs a lot. I have beat the crap out of that knife, it has yet to let me down. This is not an advert for Gerber, but I willl recommend them.
hey there good buddy , David here from Perth Western Australia first as you mentioned us military are taught to adapt overcome or improvise and that is exactly what you do almost everytime because nothing ever goes according to plan . i have seen others who get so frustrated because of this fact yet all i ever see from you is its just another challenge and you have fun with it thats why i watch because your real world training teaches people the same thing adapt overcome and or improvise and have fun with it. i have not served as long as you and i am still amazed how you can turn every adventure into something fun even when shit happens . and i have learnt so much from you, your knowledge is huge and your ability to make it look fun is way out there too , i know personally they can be tedious and painful and boring at times but they have to be done and you never show that you make it look exciting its a credit to your training and you would have made a great leader and or trainer . I have never found a reason for a need for you be sorry for anything you do . you cant please everyone so dont even try the important subscribers know this and respect what you do as i do . and your videos have helped me keep my failing sanity over the last few years . i have seen you do a lot and thats based on where your at and what the weather does and the availability of resources at hand as taught in the military, but i have one for you , you may not be able to do because of the climate you live in but , i live in Perth Western Australia , and we are hot for 9 months of the year and cold and wet for the rest our soils here are either compacted gravel or loose sand and very little vegetation we are allowed to use and very little water anywhere . id love to see your take for both these situations if at all possible and we cant have fires in our summers the risk of bush fires are far too high so i go camping in winter(nothing like your winters +5C is about as cold as it gets here) but then i love my tent and the sound of rain and thanks to you can now have a fire in the rain and not have the rain put it out i learnt that from you. i just never thought of it. well done keep up the good work .
Corporals sir...in the indonesian marines and army we use that pocho as a tents too it has the same design as your sir i'm sure it can be a shelter\tents too....but our climate is tropical...soo i understand why you prefer the sleeping bag
You could tell by the look on your face that you knew it was going to be cold. But you made it work. A green mummy sleeping bag would have worked but you made do. Semper Fi.
In 1966 we didn't have unleaded gas! So that ran on gas aka gasoline. It wasn't called leaded, or unleaded. just gas. Ethel was the good stuff. But I'm showing my age.
Another great video! Growing up in the 80's makes me love this equipment. I love military surplus and remember happily when the surplus stores were the place to get camping gear.
I'm curious why you chose the Russian shelter over the US GI version? What makes it superior? 🤔 I assume that it is superior in some way or you wouldn't have chosen it. I got a good laugh when you brought out the Tabasco sauce. And the way you mixed everything together to make it the way you wanted it, really brought back some memories. Semper Fi.
Not sure why people would want to skip through your videos 🤔 You're very informative and thorough with what you teach. Love watching and learning. Keep on doing what you're doing bro👍
I own a GI Tropical Ruck Sack, from the Nam era. It's my bugout bag! There's not a better pack, out there, as far as I'm concerned! That thing holds a TON of shit!
Lots of times you see military surplus in thrift stores where the staff was donated. Usually bag packs will be with luggage, sleeping bags with comforters.thermals with pots and pans, insulated containers, I've even seen tarps and old ugly musty smelling camouflaged pochos hanging with rain gear.
@@alanrice39 Got it from a buddy of mine, who needed some woodworking stuff that I had extra of. So we traded. I got it, the steel frame for it, and the smaller bag that used to go with it.
Love your videos. My son is ex marine went to Afghanistan 2 times . Told him of your channel . You are the man. And my son is only 32. Keep up the awesome content sir

thank you for your honest and skill. i am ex British army and I think I have learnt more watching your channel then I did in 18 years of service. I thank you.
Perfect timing...we have this big winter storm hitting here and NC and this is the perfect thing to watch
I was just thing the something.

That was one badass stove. I was never in the military, but I have a high appreciation for old school military gear and those who used it.
@@benterwellen I bet. Still badass nonetheless
Making do with what you have is the essence of survival. Adapt, Improvise and overcome, A lesson well taught.
Welcome home sir! My Dad was there 1966-1967, Army. Still have his butt pack on my web gear.
Outstanding episode this week Corp, no need to apologize. You made due with what you had. Haters going to hate no matter what, F' em.
Nice 👌, THE PREDATOR BLood trail at the end was funny shiatz. 😂🤣✌👍
I don't blame you for making that decision...I watch all the way through and could watch even more....keep up the good work 💪 👏🏼
For a old time supply Sgt lifer. Of 37 yrs. job well done. They don’t make the gear like the old gear anymore.
From the mountains of South Carolina. John.
We have all had rough nights when equipment doesn’t work out quite as we planned. Always enjoy your videos. Thanks for all the time and energy you put into them. Cheers from Canada 👍
Sundays are for the Corporal! Keep up the hard work and awesome content Shawn! By far the best channel on the tube!
Awesome son! I'm 73 years old and joined the Navy in th 60's. But after a few episodes of your experience, if I could go back I swear I'd join the USMC! Awesome lessons brother! Peace be with you!
!
Good morning Corporal! Another great video!
It’s a beautiful day. Good morning and a happy Sunday, Corporal. Let’s go Brandon 🤝
salute to you sir thankyou for serving our country and may god richly bless you!
Your videos are helping me get trough a tough break up and depression. Thanks corporal, thanks for your time, advice and entertainment.
Sgt. with the Edegem FD.
Keep your head up
I can tell just by watching you that we are vastly different people in life, probably politically, the media we consume etc. However I am glad we share the same country and I heavily enjoy learning from you.

Thank You.

My man, you're pushing a million subs, no one should expect you to reply to every comment. Keep up the good work.
Only numbnuts would Skip through your videos. Best content on RUclips. Keep up the awesome work Cpl. Outstanding AF
Peace
I don't know why people want to skip through these videos I'm trying to get information and ideas for stuff I would like to do in the future.
I love your videos. You do you.👍🏽
Quick correction at end of your video sir.
My grand daughter asked. What was that thingie you used to start your fire? She is 6 and always asks to watch your videos. Good job!
I always watch your videos all the way through, you're great!
most dont and then Yt punishes

I too, watch 'til the end 💯%, because sometimes the "best jewels" 💎, are the last ones you pick up!..😉👌🏾
#CipherThatOne!..😏
Brother no need to apologise for the fact you are human. Makes it even better, just look up the 6 Ps, no just joking with you I know you have them in your military brain. Watching you in front of the fire, outdoors is just pure zen. I love getting out doors. Its in the DNA of this Aussie. I have learnt so much watching you, and I have a good amount of survival skills having lived in Australia. However someone once said always find people smarter than your self, and you will be successful. Kind Regards Skippy from down under.
Do you ever catch and cook wild game, hunting , ect. ?
I'm a fan of K-Bar type knives. Unfortunately, the military was governed by "How much is it going to cost" and "How Fast can you make them?" So what I have is a full tang Gerber, good steel, insanely sharp, costs a lot. I have beat the crap out of that knife, it has yet to let me down. This is not an advert for Gerber, but I willl recommend them.
Just so you know, I watch them all, beginning to end and I appreciate all the hard work you put in to these videos.
Thanks Boss.
You're doing a great job boss. Thanks for the videos. Keep it up!
Man the stove is awesome also the fuel tank. Trying to find the tank any leads
hey there good buddy ,
David here from Perth Western Australia
first as you mentioned us military are taught to adapt overcome or improvise and that is exactly what you do almost everytime because nothing ever goes according to plan .
i have seen others who get so frustrated because of this fact yet all i ever see from you is its just another challenge and you have fun with it
thats why i watch because your real world training teaches people the same thing adapt overcome and or improvise and have fun with it.
i have not served as long as you and i am still amazed how you can turn every adventure into something fun even when shit happens .
and i have learnt so much from you, your knowledge is huge and your ability to make it look fun is way out there too ,
i know personally they can be tedious and painful and boring at times but they have to be done and you never show that you make it look exciting its a credit to your training and you would have made a great leader and or trainer .
I have never found a reason for a need for you be sorry for anything you do . you cant please everyone so dont even try the important subscribers know this and respect what you do as i do .
and your videos have helped me keep my failing sanity over the last few years . i have seen you do a lot and thats based on where your at and what the weather does and the availability of resources at hand as taught in the military, but i have one for you , you may not be able to do because of the climate you live in but , i live in Perth Western Australia , and we are hot for 9 months of the year and cold and wet for the rest our soils here are either compacted gravel or loose sand and very little vegetation we are allowed to use and very little water anywhere . id love to see your take for both these situations if at all possible and
we cant have fires in our summers the risk of bush fires are far too high so i go camping in winter(nothing like your winters +5C is about as cold as it gets here) but then i love my tent and the sound of rain and thanks to you can now have a fire in the rain and not have the rain put it out i learnt that from you. i just never thought of it. well done
keep up the good work .
Corporals sir...in the indonesian marines and army we use that pocho as a tents too it has the same design as your sir i'm sure it can be a shelter\tents too....but our climate is tropical...soo i understand why you prefer the sleeping bag
Can you do a video on camp security such as predator awareness and deterring? Any tricks or words of wisdom?
I was thinking the same thing, lots of beginners do not know how to keep safe in the wilderness. There are other predators other than bears.
You could tell by the look on your face that you knew it was going to be cold. But you made it work. A green mummy sleeping bag would have worked but you made do. Semper Fi.
I'm just curious about how the shelter would have turned out if you gotten both parts. Also, the can opener on that pocket knife looked serious.
In 1966 we didn't have unleaded gas! So that ran on gas aka gasoline. It wasn't called leaded, or unleaded. just gas. Ethel was the good stuff. But I'm showing my age.
thanks for watching
Another great video! Growing up in the 80's makes me love this equipment. I love military surplus and remember happily when the surplus stores were the place to get camping gear.
I'm curious why you chose the Russian shelter over the US GI version? What makes it superior? 🤔 I assume that it is superior in some way or you wouldn't have chosen it. I got a good laugh when you brought out the Tabasco sauce. And the way you mixed everything together to make it the way you wanted it, really brought back some memories. Semper Fi.
Personally I prefer the East German poncho(canvas rain pattern) or the polish lavuu.
I really want that wool jacket. What’s that from?
Not sure why people would want to skip through your videos 🤔 You're very informative and thorough with what you teach. Love watching and learning. Keep on doing what you're doing bro👍
I own a GI Tropical Ruck Sack, from the Nam era. It's my bugout bag! There's not a better pack, out there, as far as I'm concerned! That thing holds a TON of shit!
Lots of times you see military surplus in thrift stores where the staff was donated. Usually bag packs will be with luggage, sleeping bags with comforters.thermals with pots and pans, insulated containers, I've even seen tarps and old ugly
musty smelling camouflaged pochos hanging with rain gear.
@@alanrice39 Got it from a buddy of mine, who needed some woodworking stuff that I had extra of. So we traded. I got it, the steel frame for it, and the smaller bag that used to go with it.
Also: Sorry it took me so long to reply to you. YT doesn't send notifications, anymore, to let you know about replies or likes.
How do you sleep directly in the leaves and not be covered in ticks?
I love your videos. Thank you. I love how you up scales what you have, to fit your height and make yourself more comfortable.
Making do is the answer to life! Oorah! USMC 71-75
So where did you get that jacket?
haha nice.
Love your videos. My son is ex marine went to Afghanistan 2 times . Told him of your channel . You are the man. And my son is only 32. Keep up the awesome content sir
Where can I find the jacket ?
If nothing goes wrong, you aren’t camping.
just going back in time to watch some of your older videos, I always seem to learn something, even at my age (73)
Whats that first shelter called
Colin
Ahhhh MRE cheese, because combat doesn’t stop for potty breaks.
I have a high level of appreciation for your cynicism, in almost laughing at bad circles; as well as your capability to deliver survival wisdom as if it's never been given before.
If someone doesn't like what you've done they can come out to the spot use the same gear and show us how they can do it better then you.
