Bought the 5 wood yesterday. Ive been playing a TS3 3 wood for a few years and in really the last year or so ive noticed I'm just not succeeding with it. Still want a fairway wood in the bag but i wanted something more consistent and easier to hit. Tested 7 different 5 woods yesterday and the g430 was remarkable. Felt like I could hit a king sized mattress at 225. Even a couple less than great strikes still landed within 10 yards of the average. The ball just wanted to fly straight. I couldnt believe how much better it was than stealth 2 paradym aerojet or tsr3.
After trying the new G 430 Max wood in senior flex today I was pretty blown away how well I hit with it. Last season I did have a 3 Wood in the Ping G 425 series also in senior flex. I traded it off after the golf season wound down here in New England. Today, right away I noticed how the new G 430 was able to take the ball off the turf even easier than the G 425 did. I was surprised how easy it was to hit. I promptly decided to keep this club and put it in the bag today. Its amazing to me just how different the club feels. Sound I pay no attention to. Doesn't matter to me. This G 430 Max # 3 Wood is a big winner.
Great review - got to hit the G430 3 wood today and your right - more ball speed, less spin, still super stable and easy to hit - Ping really are onto a winner with this club.
Your not kidding . I thought for sure it wouldn't be much different than the G 425 one I had last year. This was not the case. G 430 had a totally different feel to it and was easier for me to take off the turf and hit in general.
Being able to adjust loft and lie on a fairway wood is a big plus in my book. I change the loft on my 4-wood per season and course. Crank it up during the winter. Less roll, more airtime.
Great review, ping certainly seem to have nailed it. Wouldn’t have wanted to get into ping before for the sound but now I’m thinking these may be the ones!!!!
I am currently using old 915 titliest wood heads with updated shafts and so far nothing has been better. I will be trying these soon as it is about time more tech was introduced into fairway and hybrid clubs, when you get to my age every bit of help is appreciated. Good review as always Dan.
Great review! I’m a Ping fan but I do not currently have a single Ping club in my bag. I like everything I’ve been seeing and hearing about these fairway woods and I am going to put a 4 & 7 g430 in my bag this spring along with two glide 4.0 wedges that I just demoed in Florida. Thanks for the informative review.
Dan, fantastic review. I used to game the G400 3 wood and it was hard to hit off the deck but since putting the G430 in the bag, I have found it a lot easier to hit off the deck and have gained more distance.
Very good review, it’s good to see that the major manufacturers are going back to adjustability in fairway woods as you said this offers many options especially with the 5 wood. Thanks
Great review dan. That's a nice looking fairway wood. The sound comparison at the end shows how much better the new one sounds. I've always struggled with woods off the deck and I'm still using an old titleist 913fd mainly because I can set it into a draw setting which seems to have disappeared from newer woods. It's good to see that companies are putting in just as much effort on fairway woods as they are drivers. It's always the drivers that get the big hype and attention
Everyone has preferences I realize but the sounds have never bothered me at all on the G 425 series. I have all the hybrids and the 5,7 and 9 Woods in the G 425 series. Love them all. Today just for grins I decided to buy the G 430 Max in the # 3 Wood senior flex like all my clubs. I am golfing later today so I am pretty excited to see how it will perform. I love the Ping Hybrids and Woods. I hit them far better than any other makes . Great review!
Just been fitted for a new 3/4 Wood today. I was using a Ping G400 5 Wood which would give me around 180 yards carry. My want for a new 3/4 wood was more carry/distance and a little more accuracy. I tried the Stealth 2 which I have to admit was nice but I was then handed a Ping G430 3 Wood with a lighter shaft than standard from their stock range. From the first strike it just felt incredible, launching well distance up to 220 yards and spin rate of 3500. I then tried 7:36 a heavier stock shaft and finally the lightest one both of which were out of barn door range for me. Then back to the original slightly lighter shaft, de-lofted to more of a 4 Wood and Ping back in the groove. This gave me huge satisfaction knowing I had tried several shafts and a different make of club but the choice was spot on Ping G430 3 wood De-lofted to a 4 wood with the lighter shaft, giving me better club head speed and attack angle. Then I went on to try a G430 Hybrid with the same shaft and again the results were excellent. Ordered both clubs. The important experience of being fitted which I will always do when buying clubs should not be underestimated get fitted and try different shafts and brand. I did try the driver but felt the benefit from my current G400 was not worth changing until I learn to hit it straighter and further. But I highly recommend this new Ping range agree the acoustics are exceptional.
My 3 wood has come out the bag 22 years together ..... got the 5 wood fixed and took it down to 16° and put st200x 7 wood and a 4 iron in . Got better options for S&A now . Little 3 over yesterday 😁
The fact that the 430 range has been out for almost a week and the fairway reviews are only just coming through show that Drivers take all the spotlight. In the market for a 4w..hitting this on Wednesday...I have a feeling it may be in my bag next week....has the "Flat" setting to help ease my dose of the lefts...👍
I think fairway woods have been more than forgiving enough for the best part of a decade. We don't want to give OEMs any excuse to have a driver price fest and stick a fancy word on the face and £100 on the price, 5 woods heads are the same size as my first metal driver in 1990!
I’ve been very happy with G420 5 and 9 (yes 9!) woods. They’re the first fairway woods that I’ve ever been able to use on the course. I’m looking at the new 7 wood though. Good comment from you!
This one would be a close match to the Rouge ST MAX. Last month I sold my Sim max 3 and 5 woods, they’re too deep faced and very inconsistent off the turf. Great off the tee but I rarely used them off the tee. Rouge St max with its shallow face similar to G425 are incredibly easy to hit off the turf. Gained 5 yards carry also over Sim max and way more forgiving! This G430 looks like it has a little deeper face than G425 but I’m sure it’s still easy to hit off the turf. Great test. Love how you dial it in by changing the loft/lie sleeve Yes the G430 sounds better. G425 sounds hollow and much louder.
Not hearing any difference on my laptop speakers between the old and new ping club. Is it really that different in the studio or are you just tuned to sound more than I?
I game the G410 3w and love what it gives me off the tee and off the deck. I skipped the G425 since it wasn't giving me "more" when I tested it, but I'm definitely more than a little curious how the G430 compares the my G410. Who knows, if it performs better for me, I may try to pick one up in another year or two when the prices drop. Cheers Dan 🍻
Great review Dan. Ping seemed to have tried that little bit more this year which is obviously a good thing. Any help for those who game a 5 wood I expect will be welcome. Personally I don't game a 5 wood I prefer a 19° hybrid as I find it doesn't have to be in the fairway to be able to get to the green from say a lie that is less than ideal eg from the semi rough. However it does look nice.
Nice review as per Dan. Hard to keep up with tech as it moves so quickly these days. Not really a tech boff myself, as long as the club works for me that's fine. Will you be putting this one in the bag replacing your old faithful.
Dan, great video as always... However, whilst comparing to the 425 is valid and appropriate, I think everyone would really like to see you compare all the new 5 woods against your RBZ... i.e., is there anything in the market that would make you take it out of your bag?
Agreed....I'm getting a bit worried about this channel....and Dan talking about 12 vlogs a year.....I could be wrong but I can see this channel stagnating in front of my eyes....I hope they sort it out as some of the content over the last couple of years has been second to none..... Worried subscriber
Don’t worry about a thing Robin, the UK has been under water this past month or so and getting out on courses has been a major issue. Along with this there has been a large amount of releases that I need to get out to help with growth, we are pushing nearly 500 new subscribers in the past 2 weeks which is great for the channel. First vlog coming back on 30th Jan from Princes, you will see from this vlog how hard it has been to film 🎥 stay with me 👍
Just the kind of review I was looking for, quite fancy a 4 wood but one question after it had been adjusted does it still sit quite square at the face, some clubs in the past are terrible once adjusted which just kills it for me. Great review 👍
I reckon that Brands have pretty much exhausted the developments on drivers so are now focussing their efforts (and ‘marketing’ hype on) the woods. It will allow them to increase the price of these to close the gap between the driver prices and increase their revenues. I’m still of the view that spending money and time on lessons and practice will benefit most golfers more. That said it’s always nice to have a shiny new toy to play with and talk about on the course 😂😂😂
Hey Dan, great review as always, but I think you've made a small error. At 1:43 you show the face of what you are describing as a fairway wood, however based on the presence of grooves and the depth of the face, I believe you are displaying a hybrid. It's my understanding the fairway woods have no grooves. Please let me know if I am mistaken. Thanks!
Hold on - the ball speed is higher when you add loft? Understandable when you reduce loft, make it closer to Driver lofts, but standard is slower than loftier? I see the distances and spin work out as expected, but it still makes my old head hurt when thinking speed vs loft. Ping really are the guvnors on engineering.
@DanHendriksenGolf Understood, Dan. I mean, if you weren't swinging faster and its all down to strike, then even more kudos to the Ping boys and girls. Could this finally oust the RBZ, and if not, what else would a club have to do to achieve that?
Goodness knows I’ve been guilty of succumbing to the shiny new game changing clubs scenario, but when I was a teenager I was a better player than I am now, playing with sticks and stones and hitting the ball straight, not further or higher.so really we’ve been hoodwinked by the corporate doctrine.instead of getting lessons or practising till our hands had callouses,we look for a magic solution 😂😂.in the end it doesn’t last the pattern just repeats itself.END OF STORY
The big negative to me w/G425 was the extremely shallow longer face/head. Ping obviously has continued that design w/the G430. Like the carbon head, the looks, but the shallow face makes it just to chancy playing from the rough for fear of roofing the head. It also just doesn't work for me off the tee. Just prefer a taller face, aka the Sim or Stealth.
DH Disappointed to see the channel becoming another review and sales pitch like all the others. Really miss ythe VthaLOGs that made your channel so different.
They will be back soon Ivor, this past month has been a real challenge to get out and film anywhere. Think we have had over 6 weeks of wet weather in the UK
My two year old Cobra speedzone 5 wood has a decent amount of tech going on including adjustability, carbon crown, milled face, split rails, visible weighting. It also goes and sounds f amazing!! This Ping ain't nothing new and they're playing catch-up in my humble opinion.
I think the 3 wood should be phased out in preference for a 4 wood . My 4 wood is almost as good as my driver and easier to use on the golf course than a 3 wood. My issue with Ping is they have counter ballanced shafts as standard they dont suit me at all i like to feel the club head.
Certainly looks nice. Not sure I agree on the “lack of technology” in fairways, seems to me they have all made progress there, probably just does not get the focus as it is not addressing the “ultimate length point” and hence not as sexy as the driver. Be great to see you put this up against your RBZ🫣

all pings have been easy since the g400 that was so easy could with eyes closed cuzz it was a flatter looking club,,,,
Very good review, it’s good to see that the major manufacturers are going back to adjustability in fairway woods as you said this offers many options especially with the 5 wood. Thanks
previous model was adjustable as welll
I agree, I actually traded in in my G425 FW because of the aluminum bat sound it made, just too loud for my liking.
Great review dan. That's a nice looking fairway wood. The sound comparison at the end shows how much better the new one sounds. Thanks for the review. I also saw that TM moved face tech to the 5W and 3W this year. Trying to hit both to compare.
My 3 wood has come out the bag 22 years together ..... got the 5 wood fixed and took it down to 16° and put st200x 7 wood and a 4 iron in . Got better options for S&A now . Little 3 over yesterday 😁
It'll be interesting to see what ends up in your bag for 2023. This sounds like a serious possi ility.
I do think the new G430 range looks nice. I picked up a stealth+ 5 wood last year and lofted it down to the 4 wood loft and love it.
The TSR 3 Fairway wood is still first class. I will wait patiently until the 2024 release. 👍💯💪🙏
I'd like the try the 3 wood. I like the look from the top.
Great review. It would be interesting to see a comparison to the new Callaway offering.
By the way great video Dan ❤

Hi Dan, not a bad review.
Trying it out next Friday along with callaway paradigm, my current gamer is g410 so be interesting to see the numbers 🤔
Cool review Dan..I wish u taught golf in California.. where is your merchandise store.

Good review - but will it be enough to oust your ‘magic wand’ 5 wood from the bag?
Great review Dan. Ping seemed to have tried that little bit more this year which is obviously a good thing. Any help for those who game a 5 wood I expect will be welcome. Interesting review- adjustability that clearly works is a real bonus. Shudder to think how much it costs though….
Does it go higher and farther than your gamer or the 425? Thats all that matters really. That wouldve been better info.
Would have liked a comparison for peak heights challenging the tech against the 425 and your TM. Would be nice to know if it did launch higher
Nice review as per Dan. Hard to keep up with tech as it moves so quickly these days. Not really a tech boff myself, as long as the club works for me that's fine. Will you be putting this one in the bag replacing your old faithful.

Hi Simon, no point, the RBZ would win 😉
Is it good enough to displace your current 5 wood in your bag Dan 🤔
Looks and sounds pretty nice
No, not quite 😂
When on earth are you going to give us a golf game to watch Dan

To my ear the 425 sounded better then the 430.. louder equals more feedback.. but then again I am older and my hearing isn't what it used to be. 😂😂😂😂

I think they always have been advancing the technologies in the clubs but dont shout about it as much as they do drivers.
Do I go for the G30 7 wood or G30 5 wood still not sure

More my striking performance Stuart on Ball Speed 👍

Stayed in my bag for a week. HORRIBLE sounding like a tin can. All fairway woods are good and many, forgiving. Why play an echo chamber?
3 wood but you revue a 5.................................................................................
