Literally no Liverpool fan except maybe AGT has been saying we will win the league. Before every game our fans freak out. We have learned from 13/14, 18/19, and 21/22 that it's not over until it is over.
We are literally aware that all it takes is a bad game or 2 for everything to just slip away.

as the stories of a premier league season play out, i feel like there is a theme or idea that plays heavily into the title race. in 21/22 it was discipline. city and liverpool raced to the end, liverpool were arguably the better side on paper, but made too many mistakes, drew too many games, and lost by a point in a season they couldve won by 5+. in 22/23, it was comfortability. arsenal thought they had it in the bag. fans were already celebrating, and they took their foot off the gas. they got too comfortable, and city punished them for it by finishing strong. last season it was resilience. liverpool, man city, and arsenal were all exchanging blows, and all went thru serious hardships throughout the season. city were able to keep the most stable, the most resilient, and won. this season, the theme is humility. city started looking like they would stomp the league again, but the moment haaland let his ego go too far, the lack of humility was punished. and the sides with no or uncertain expectations have flourished such as Liverpool and Forrest. chelsea were in it until their manager started making tongue in cheek comments, and then look what happened. This season is running on humility, and if liverpool remain humble and just focus on their play, im sure the process will work and they will go all the way.

    • @tomwilko7841

Interesting, it has to be said that never has the word humble been so front and centre in the title race...I'm not certain many of the people saying it understand the word fully...life has taught me that actions speak louder than words and in my opinion many of the recent utterances of the word in football circles have that kind of social media, 'I'm presenting as perfect despite being a pos', virtue signalling emptiness that has crept into society about them...i much prefer clubs to let the football do the talking...brentford, forest, bnmth, Fulham and Brighton all being great examples of talent, hard work and discipline bringing rewards, I'm not sure if the word humble applies to any prem club but if it does those teams are the candidates....ps I don't think maresca stating 'Chelsea are not in a title race' was tongue in cheek, if that's the comment of his ur referring to, other than that I really like ur take on the narratives this season has thrown up

I think Liverpool are the most humble of all the top 6 teams.
They are the only team in the big 6 that fight and claw like a Brighton, Brentford or Bournemouth. Nothing's taken for granted. That thirty years of league disappointment has taught this club and its supporters to be humble and level headed, especially in disappointment. Liverpool fans cherish the joy, more than the glory, that the managers and players brought to this club. Who else has a cult hero like Klavan the God, or Lord Origi?
Consider this - apart from Hodgson, and to some extent Rodgers, Liverpool has nothing but love for their managers from that 30 year drought. Yes, Souness and Evans were legends at the club before their managerial stints, BUT Houllier and Benitez are revered at Liverpool, despite being foreigners who couldn't bring the ultimate prize. Who else can say that?

Hey Loz, loving the content. On Arsenal, I think that for most people humility (or as you call it humbleness 🙂) is intrinsically linked to fairness and good sportsmanship in a sporting setting. Given that Arsenal have been highlighted by multiple pundits and opposition fans as a team that is not adverse to utilising the dark arts on a fairly consistent basis i.e. players developing cramp or spontaneous injuries around the same point of multiple matches, taking excessive time over corners/free kicks/throw ins etc. it kind of feels like this is the antithesis of being humble. Add to this the behaviour of their leader Arteta, who frequently demonstrates a lack of respect - bordering arrogance/petulance - both pitch side through almost entering the field of play on numerous occasions (I think he actually did this earlier this season against Inter in the UCL) and in interviews (where he seemingly has a plethora of excuses as to why his team should have won when they fail to) and it does not feel to me that they consistently demonstrate the virtues of humility.

We're 6pts clear with a game in hand. However, we've only played 23 games meaning 45pts still up for grabs, so we're far from winning the league. But I for one am loving every minute of it.
And why shouldn't I? We're in the driving seat and im enjoying every minute. Am i supposed to sit quietly on a rollercoaster then laugh and scream when I get off?
What if I don't let myself enjoy it until its confirmed, am I supposed to watch us beat City, utd, and whoever else and just shrug my sholders and say "Doesn't mean anything because we've not yet won the league"? Nah, Im enjoying every minute.
What if we're flying like we are, i don't enjoy it, then we throw it all away in April? Then ive spent a year just shrugging my shoulders and not enjoying it.
Nah, Im loving every minute and if it all goes pear shaped at the end, atleast ive enjoyed the ride (if not the ending.
    Top the Prem,
    Top the UCL League,
    Caraboa cup semis,
    Still in FA Cup
And im enjoying every minute. The only sad thing about it is seeing the ones who aren't enjoying the ride.

Liverpool won´t need to win every time and everything: just win the most, and make it for others as difficult possible as. And of course, do those impossible comebacks regularly, plus connected to making things as difficult for others as possible, always turn Anfield to Hell for each and every opponent. Some rare opponents on some rare moments can withstand that Hell, but not many, not often. As fans, our job is to create that Hell at Anfield, and lessen all the other hells for our players away. I´d want every Liverpool fan to shout and chant in each game as if their lives and their friends´ lives depended on the result. When the game is practically or literally over, then it´s about having fun and celebrations.
