Nigeria Protest LIVE: Nigerians Protest Over Rising Cost of Living on ‘National Day of Survival’
Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu said on Tuesday he was "deeply aware" of the struggles of the people of Nigeria and was "committed" to finding sustainable solutions. Tinubu addressed the nation in a televised speech Tuesday morning, saying that he was “deeply aware of the struggles many of you face in these challenging times.” “As your president, I assure you that we are committed to finding sustainable solutions to alleviate the suffering of our citizens,” he added. Tinubu has faced harsh criticism from Nigerians who say he has failed to act on the struggles faced by the population. Widespread protests in August left 22 dead after security forces attempted to quell the demonstrations with gunfire. Nigerians took to the streets again on Tuesday to protest against economic hardship. These are the second mass protests in two months in Africa’s most populous country amid worsening hardship that has been caused by the government’s reforms to save more money, shore up foreign investments and strengthen the local naira currency.
