    the old man cut the guy off when he was talking about his HAM father in law right in mid sentence . Lost immediate respect . I have been a HAM for 50 years now myself and I have seen the FCC become less and less involved in the enforcement side of Amateur radio handing off testing and policing procedures of the HAM bands to active amateurs themselves. They are too busy with the bureaucracy that is all consuming . I have been listening to the arguments , fighting and nonsense that has been on going on 14.313 ( maritime mobile net ) and also on the 75 meter phone band in the late evenings . ( They are still fighting the civil war on 80 meters ) for over 30 years now ... Now the commission has the brass to levy licensing fee on us for all the good we Amateurs do and have done throughout History without asking for a dime . If I had a nickel for the number of phone patches I ran for our military or for the traffic I handled in and out of devastated areas of natural disaster ( like Mt. ST. Helens eruption etc. ) , I would be rich .... Gimmee a break ... de KA3FAD

      Exactly. I'll add FM radio stations, because corporations like iHeartRadio wield a LOT of power and can pressure the FCC to track down a pirate radio operator who is stepping into their territory/frequency.
      People have to keep in mind that the FCC has a very limited budget, and THAT is their biggest constraint. All the fear mongering we hear from sad hams about reporting pirates the FCC are empty threats, unless you're polluting emergency service frequencies or FM radio station frequencies. You get what you pay for and FCC enforcement, or lack thereof, has more to do with a lack of funding more than anything else.

      Most likely not because the range isn’t that far and the odds of finding you is slim. You are suppose to announce your GMRS call sign to show you have a license. Also, it isn’t that slow to scan through the GMRS signals. The idea is to limit people to using the GMRS band so it remains quiet for those who are willing to pay money to those enforcing legal operations. You can buy portable CB radios or use the MURS. MURS are usually smaller to use. Both radios don’t require a license and operate at 2 and 4 watts. They also work better than the GMRS portable radios because of the longer antennas. CB uses AM that bounces vs FM that get’s absorbed.

    To listen in is just a matter of having a scanner with the right software... everything is still in plaintext but you have DPLs* so that multiple users can broadcast packets of digital voice. The whole point is to share 1 frequency for multiple users/sessions - encryption would eat too much into the bandwidth. DPL is just a way of tagging a conversation and keeping everything separate so you don't get your neighbor's voice call.
    *or their proprietary/system standard equivalents

    • @jimcervantes5659
      @jimcervantes5659 6 лет назад +1

      I can tell you from professional experience that encryption does not, in general, require much more bandwidth. Usually there is session establishment overhead for things like key exchange and authentication, but once an encrypted session is underway there is usually very little ongoing extra bandwidth consumed in support of encryption.

Good luck jamming an SDR or surveillance spectrum analyzer

    What these FCC guys are saying is the exact reason people should not get licensed. The FCC keeps a database of every licensed radio operator. That database is available to the public. If you want everyone to know your name and your location then get a license. sample here www.arrl.org/advanced-call-sign-search.
    Also note that in this video they can only target fixed transmitters. People with hand held or mobile radios would be too hard for them to track.

    I was doing some wifi jamming for like 4 days straight on what appears to be surveillance equipment (in a residential only area, so what or who it's for I wish I could figure out).. anyway that's the longest I've ever jammed wifi for, by far. Finally and luckily, I'm outside just as the FCC guy is slowly creeping up the road with this scanning device out the window in his left hand, lol... I run back in and killswitch my gear, thank God. Anyone know the penalty in the US for jamming wifi? I'd imagine it's fines, a civil case, not criminal. But if you can't pay the fines then what happens?

    • @fratertenc7589
      @fratertenc7589 8 лет назад +3

      Oh also I've stopped doing it, and took the FCC's presence as a warning. I knew it was them, especially with the slow slow driving, stopping every so many feet, esp in front of my place, and when I come back 20-30 mins later they're at the bottom of my street (there was some 2nd car doing I don't know what exactly) conversing with their cars parked opposite the side you enter this road. There are just a lot of weird access points around me and when I detect signal direction in a primitive way with a signal meter using a sound tone I can hear when not looking (faster beeping = dBm increase) I find the access points , most of which I'm concerned of have no name at all, are located somewhere in my house or on our property... One of the devices is made by this company per the MAC address:www.e-watch.com

    • @fratertenc7589
      @fratertenc7589 8 лет назад +1

      Wow that's scary. Can you cite the claim of the 5 years in prison thing because as far as I know radio jamming is never jailable in the USA, at least not in connecticut but these are more like federal laws I think or FCC code or whatever. My reasons for doing it was I believe strongly that there are surveillance devices in say our utility poles around the street here. heck, I catch MAC addresses on Kismet , have caught two now made by companies (whatever the device may be) which only sell surveillance equipment for basically the FBI or that level of surveillance, not your everyday stuff... such as www.e-watch.com
      Does that give me a license to jam? no.. I did stop because that laptop broke.. maybe that happened for you know a 'reason' as we tend to say.
      I know I have soething like schizophrenia if not something similar because I"m convinced of this wiretapping, yet I find actual evidence of it when deeply scanning for long periods of time, the wifi radio info around me. Lately, I've been just listening to 800-900 MHz trunked radio with a reciever.. thank god it's not half or full duplex haha. Thanks though man.. I'll try to just not do that because I know legally I'm not justified to jam communications even if I find them to be unethical. If we all could do that then we could jam just baout anything
