    I never knew what a real man, what real masculinity was until I met my husband. He is a protector of me and our children, he is a provider of love and security, he is always present, always ready to have the hard conversation...
    I...am forever thankful. He can cry with me, like when my parents died or when our children were born, but he's a powerhouse and backs us all with all his might. I can't love him enough

    As a woman who has started dating in her mid-20's, I'm baffled by the lack of emotional intelligence and fragile masculinity in many men I am meeting. I learned about the 3 P's recently and definitely feel like men get very sensitive about providing and protecting. I have had men tell me their salary within 20 minutes of knowing them. I have had men tell me I'm attempting to replace a man with my dog just because she's protective. Like seriously, you're equating dog behavior to men now? I have also met full grown men (in their 40's) who have chosen to leech off their parents until they die. I don't understand it.
    There has definitely been a generational of disconnection to what manliness is and it's really concerning to women as well. Some women have chosen to leave the dating scene all together because of this and I don't blame them. The thing is many women are now capable of living on their own, but men do NEED to feel the 3 P's. On one hand we have men remaining single because they don't know how to act and on the other we have men abusing women to feel masculine. The ones remaining single and empty are often turning to porn addictions and prostitutes, which are abusive industries towards women. No one wins here. We all need to come together and tackle toxic masculinity as it negatively affects us all.

    Heard him contradict a bit of values regarding masculinity that I’ve heard Dr. John talk about before that I wish Dr. John challenged a bit more. Such as being worthy of love and having value, independent of the value to bring to the world. (Not having to earn your worth, it’s inherent). And being able to be vulnerable in the sense of crying in front of your partner, asking your partner for help, and working as a unit with your partner to address each others’ weaknesses.

    I don't know. I don't feel comfortable limiting what a 'man' is. Men can be vulnerable, men can be nurturing. He has a backstory that I can sympathize with and clearly he's thought a lot about his place in the universe, just feels a little skewed.

    • @CaptPicard81
      @CaptPicard81 2 года назад +1

      He got a little weird about the word vulnerable, but I think it really does boil down to semantics as they alluded since his definition of humility seemed to be the same thing

      @@CaptPicard81 I Feel like men and women would benefit more by sharing all the these qualities rather than black and white 'women are this, men are that'
      If a dad is better at heart to heart talks more than mom and mom happens to be the higher earner, then why have these ideals that would bring shame for not fitting in.
      If they can agree cooking isn't masculine or feminine, then neither should being the provider, nurturer, protector, home maker whatever other traditional ideals there are.

    • @CaptPicard81
      @CaptPicard81 2 года назад +1

      @@mightymouse9001 agreed, though I didn't catch where in the convo they said that it isn't masculine to be nurturing etc. I might have missed that part. There seems to be a lot of angst these days about what it means to be a man and I'm not sure why. I think what this guy is saying offers value to people who might need a more rigidly defined framework to inform their behavior. Which I don't judge if it helps them be happier or find purpose, though I don't find this framework necessary myself 🤷🏾‍♂️

    • @mightymouse9001
      @mightymouse9001 2 года назад +1

      @@CaptPicard81 you know he may not have actually said it directly. I'd have to rewatch. But my takeaway from the interview was "men are these 3 things and to be manly you have to be these 3 things" so it may just be me projecting and thinking he'd support "women should be the nurturing ones"
      But either way just rubbed me the wrong way. Glad he's doing well though and it works for him and his family

    • @sackettfamily4685
      @sackettfamily4685 2 года назад +3

      As soon as he started having a problem with the word vulnerable, I thought about my own hang ups with respect. I grew up with a verbally abusive sister (my bully), and she used the word respect to get her way. I didn't even know what it meant! So as an adult, I try to hardly ever use it, preferring a synonym.
      I think his military background, makes vulnerable an undesired trait to have. But the synonym of humility is something he could handle aspiring to.

    They’re wrong about dependence and some other things. If you’re not dependent on your wife and kids you’re doing life wrong. Emotional dependence on your family (the one you made) is something you should strive for because if you’re not you’re doing life wrong. This whole “I’m the man and I’m in charge” is a very Barbaric way of living and in my opinion makes you less of a man. You can lead a family without being oppressive and over the top

    Great episode, however, I strongly disagree with Ryan’s definition of integrity. There is a strong and essential “moral” component to integrity - a level of honesty and doing what is traditionally considered to be morally “right”. Without a strong moral compass, you cannot have integrity. Therefore, a terrorist cannot be considered a man of integrity.
