I made my own flower fairy wings! Not a tutorial but feel freer to draw inspiration! I've been wanting to make more wings since I got some at the Celtic Renaissance Faire and I finally did it!

Tip for doubling up the floral wire next time: clamp one end of the wires in a vice grip or, like people who don't have a fully kitted out workshop, under something heavy like a sofa leg or stand mixer. Place the other ends in you drill like you would a drill bit and run the drill slowly. Nice, tight, uniform coiled wire.

Oh, me, too! Totally! My home renovations and project building are NEVER documented for that reason. Shhhh ;-) A week ago I also would have done what you did with the tape. When I saw the guy stick the wires in the drill and twist them my jaw dropped. So simple! So clever! Why did I never think of that?!

I am unbelievably late to the party, but another quick tip is to use incense sticks to create a controlled burn hole in the wings! (I tried with nylon tights when I made mine many moons ago and it definitely works).

When I saw you had the dry cleaner's hangers expecting them to be full length, my heart immediately dropped for you because I did the exact same damn thing expecting more wire under all that cardboard for a similar project LMAOO 😂

Those wings are super cute. And I love how you watered down the paint to keep them sheer. The corset is beautiful as well. Adding this to my list of things I want to make. Haha

@@DressMeUpScotty in uni we did Midsummer Night’s & all of the fairies had airbrushed wings made similarly. That was… a LONG time ago and I have been meaning to make some for myself ever since (I played Puck and didn’t get wings - worth it :)) - thanks for the push!

I do have a bunch of wire hangers around. So tempting, though I have no use for fairy wings~. But it would be so cute to slip into the back of a corset, which I also haven’t made. 😭 Anyway, so pretty~!

These are stunning! I going to buy different colour nylons/hose and maybe try making some wings using nylons with a print on such as cobwebs , I'm very inspired😀🍄
Cobweb wings would be sooo cooool!! I almost got colored wings but couldn’t find a cheap enough option. The 4 pack of the nylons were $5 and all the colored tights I saw online were $10 a pair 🥲 lmk if you find somewhere that’s cheap.

I love these! I did a double set forever ago the same way. I bought black nylons, and the colors really pop on those.
I think yours came out much better. I had a hard time with making the wings symmetrical.
Ooo I’ll have to try black next time. I want to make some darker wings too, maybe some teal and green ones, moth inspired with moss so maybe I’ll use black for those.
@@DressMeUpScotty I can't wait to see them! My wings were supposed to be more kindof goth butterfly. It was a little weird and didn't quite work with the outfit, (I made the wings too colorful, the colors should have been more subdued) but the wings as a whole came out really neat.

These wings would be perfect for a fall fairy. Going to try my hand at making wings. Wonder if electric fence wire is too thick, but I still have a spool of it so I might try anyway
You used to be able to buy a product called glazing tint which, if my geriatric brain recalls correctly, was for stencil painting on walls. But I think the acrylic turned out lovely.
I did a lot of cringing while watching you paint on that rug. Yikes! Reminds me of the time my husband used a miter box saw to cut molding on top of our coffee table!
I had a thought for photography during the reveal portion - use a mirror so the video catches your face when your back is turned showing off the gorgeous wings.❤

Haha that rug has been through a lot. Surprisingly it hides a lot of stains. I’ve spilled paint on it before and with all the colors you can’t tell 😂 it helps having colorful rugs. I have them all over the house. Eventually I’ll invest in some of those machine washable rugs but for now my mini shampooer does a good job.

Haha yess. I think the hangers are possible as long as you make them kinda small or graft 2 pieces together and cut off the curled bits. I know there are ways of straightening wire with a drill and a block of wood but when I watched a tutorial on how to do it my brain was like “this is too much work, I’ll macgyver something else” 🤣 then the spool of garden wire was bestowed on me lol

You did a great job changing it up when the hangers didn't work out and the glue gun failed you. And I have an idea of what to do with the bucket full of craft wire I got from a friend. 😁
It’s a fun project so I recommend it! And yeah it was a rough process but worth it in the end. I definitely recommend skipping the hot glue veins and going straight for the glitter glue. I’m obsessed with how the glitter glue worked out!!

Hey! I was wondering how you managed to secure the hose onto the wire? It’s the only part that isn’t really touched on in the video. I couldn’t get my hands on wire hangers and I also have a lot of floral wire that I made pretty thick by doubling and tripling up, but the hose weigh it down and it wont hold its shape!
I have until tomorrow to finish the costume 😭😭 (so also if anyone in the comments has any ideas for how I can make this work without buying new materials…)

I know I am late to the party but you are using tin snips and not pliers. That can cause weak marks in your wires.

I was considering painting the top part of the felt pink to match the wings but I just ran out of time. I’ll probably do that soon.

Fairy wings are like tattoos… you can’t ever stop with just one pair 😅 I might be getting the itch to make some more/replace the ones I lost in Houston. Sigh, I have sculpting wire, I don’t have my heat tools or other things but I’m getting ready to make a breast plate for cosplay so that means it’s a multi purpose tool right? Sigh. Scotty, you got me rebuilding my toolbox and buying more craft supplies in my head. But I only have 2 pairs of surviving wings now, and none of them did I make myself anymore. I’m going to blame you for the this desire, but I’m not upset it’s just an itch I need to scratch. 😅
You are correct, those are veins…they pump the wings full of fluid when they hatch out to make them fill out. You are adorable!

What should i do if i want to make these wings but i dont have a corset? Can i just put it into the back of my dress?
If your dress is sturdy enough yes. I’ve also tucked it behind my bra band for extra support when I wasn’t wearing a corset. It worked!
You have to be careful what paint you use because none plastic or flexible paint will dry out the dedicated fibers and they will become very brittle and shorten the life of the wings.

Next time buy colored nylons. It will save you tons in time and paint. ❤
I considered that actually as my first choice. But one pair of colored tights was more expensive than a 4 pack of nylons (and I used all 4 pairs in the end). I didn’t mind painting them. I put on a podcast and just enjoy the process, kinda therapeutic!
