If Red was supposed to be "Kanto's gym leader", then that may be another thing that made it's way into the manga. Red won the Gym Leader title but refused to it, so Green (Oak) took it instead.

Worth noting that the original/oldest Clair sprite actually resembles Jasmine’s official sprite - so it looks like when they redesigned Clair, they kept her bottom half and used it for Jasmine, which is pretty neat
Exactly. Gama is just Claire's face on top of Jasmine's body. I found it weird that it wasn't mentioned.
Beta Jasmine looks cute, I hope they revive that design. It's really cool to see a bit of a story change for the game.
Looks like she would be a Fairy type gym leader if that designed was recycled into a modern game in the series judging by all the ribbons, just sayin’.
That corrupted sprite sheet really felt like creepy pasta material before the cleanup. Feels like G/S was going to be way bigger, which is crazy considering it still feels big in the final version.
As with much of Gen 1 being creepypasta related, this of course would be too lol
It was supposed to be the final game of the series after all
Honestly an event where you could just randomly skateboard with Red would have been cool
I should point out that most of the sprites seem to be designed with the Super Game Boy or more specifically the Super Game Boy 2 in mind; as a result the artist are using color differently as opposed to the Game Boy Color intended final product. Also many of the beta sprites were to busy to be cleanly readable on even modern PC much less a Game Boy or CRT.
I'm 99% certain the "whips" of the teachers are actually pointing sticks
I did think it could be that, but the shape of it at the end looks like those old teacher whips that were used. I mean it fits the whole whip these of then anyways
So concise . I lol’d at how the teacher went through 3 forms and then got cut anyway. Your vids deserve a mil views each. Thanx for all the research and hard work putting them together !

Same. Especially Jasmine. And if she was meant to be Agatha's apprentice like you theorized, that would have been so cool. It would probably have expanded the lore between Agatha and Oak and that would have been really cool.
@@Oceane1803 If it expanded that lore, i'd hope they would have had Jasmine meet Blue then considering Blue being Oak's direct apprentice too that way.
Oh yeah that would have been neat. And if Jasmine had that kind of treatment, I wonder what kind of cool stories they could have had in stock for all the other Gym Leaders.
Could Jasmine's design have been recycled as Valerie's design... cinsidering Valerie is from Johto and is introducing a new type the way Jasmine does...
Red being a gym leader originally makes sense to why the adventures his goal was to become one

It was in the later chapters of red & blue, green ones the gym leader has been absent for a long time and after defeating Giovanni he's offered to be one but declines to get stronger as his goal

Some comments I have on this video:
For the Kung Fu Master, I wonder if that was supposed to be for Karate King Kiyo (or maybe Karate Master Koichi)? I'm also surprised that the Rock Climber class wasn't reused for X and Y, considering that was the theme of the Cyllage City Gym.
Since Red was a Gym Leader, I wonder if he spoke at this point in development rather than being a silent character.
It would be interesting to see what Imposter Professor Oak and Imakuni would have done in this game. Imakuni probably would be the victim of a regional difference, as he probably wouldn't have made it into the international versions.
I wonder if Giovanni was cut as an Elite 4 member as the big twist of him being in such a major position wasn't as effective the second time.
The Soldier may have been cut due to the same reason the whips were, not because he was particularly violent himself, but because he implied violence via military service and war. Not that this would matter now since an ancient war was a big plot point in X and Y.
Well alot of these beta classes appear to have eventually made it into the series, such as Fledgling becoming Preschooler, so makes sense. I would also hope Red would have spoken as a gym leader lol
Also I imagine Imakuni would have stayed since he was in the TCG GB game.
I mean I imagine Giovanni was cut all together as to not make him repeat his Team Rocket ambitions twice. Also I don't think Soldier would be cut for the sake of being a soldier considering LT. Surge existed in the first game.
@@TheObsessiveGamer For Imakuni, I was going to say about the TCG game, actually, but I was going under the assumption that something would've held him back for early GS. Then again, the TCG GB game was released several months after the Spaceworld Versions of Gold and Silver would have released, even in Japan, so who knows what would've happened.
As for the Soldier, I had a lapse in judgement for forgetting about Lt. Surge when I wrote it. The only thing I can think of is maybe a potential concern internally at Game Freak with depicting US-controlled bases, even if it would've been pretty obscure knowledge to most people at the time. Then again, Lt. Surge himself is American, so I'm not sure what to think.
@@Hijiri_MIRACHION I doubt they would have went political in talking about it as an "occupation" and rather would have just have them randomly standing around like most trainers.

Oh wow, very interesting video! The addition of Imakuni would have been funny, I wonder why GF cut him out of the game since he already was in the GBC TCG included.
Considering it was coming out later than expected, I wouldn't be surprised if their contract was starting to expire with him is why that happened.

The Kimono girl was flipped because the fold of her kimono on the beta sprite was the wrong way, which is reserved for the dead.
South Man looks like Samurai from the anime, who is a bug catcher.

At 14:29 that is actually the punk sprite in gen 1, so I'm assuming it was used as another placeholder

Any ideas of who the Cerulean Gym Leader would have been if they kept Misty as an Elite 4 member, but had the regions be Kanto and Johto as in the final game?
Maybe they'd canonize her sisters as a trio gym leader

Good observation. Shows that the final Jasmine design was pretty much a split from the old Clair one. Surprisingly Jasmine looks way more adult with that compared to Clair.

7:30 the left sprite looks like a fusion of Claire & Jasmin's final desing.
To be honest, the left sprite looks really unfinished. Just look at the neck.
The 99 Giovanni sprite had the same red tint as the two dragon leaders earlier on
The rocket ones also had the same tint
Something I noticed about the Guitarist sprite is that the beta appears to be using the head of the Gen 1 sprite but is partially drawn over with what looks like an early version of the final design, with the nose and mouth being on the left side rather than the right and a white line where the neck line would be. It's a shame we are left with this WIP version rather than what came directly before and after this, but still interesting none the less!
The art for Falkner in Pokemon stadium interestingly had pidgey on that same arm

I was thinking that at first but the end looks much more like those old whips teachers use to use. Fitting for a game that was initially heavy in whips anyways lol

@@eyevou there were a few punishment tools. The short whip was one of them. You can find them via google too, they got a thick end unlike a pointer.

I really wish they stuck with the original region besides the ugly Kanto city. I've explored it and seen it and it has more life to it. There's a tropical area, a snow area, overall is more diverse. The original Team Rocket story seems to have been way better with Imposter Oak and Giovanni returning. It's a shame that the Johto region was made pretty lackluster in order to include Kanto
I really do love how diverse it was. Course if this happened it would mean no Hoenn or Sinnoh games either.

I don’t know how old you were in the 90s (if you were alive) but the nineties were all about extreme sports. Surfing, skateboarding, rock climbing, roller blading. The 90s loved all that stuff. If you were there you remember. lol I barely have memories of the 90s but I remember all that. So the skateboards might just have been to appeal to kids. Lol

Are any of these beta builds playable? To be specific area they completed enough to beat the game either elite four and or red?
There's hacks that try to replicate what the story might of been but no there isn't any build with actual story events

They should've had Karen replace Pryce, and Lorelei stay in the Elite 4. I think it would've been good to have both a steel and a dark-type Gym leader in the game, considering they were brand-new types at the time.
Maybe it might've been interesting to have Kurt replace Agatha ... Then again, maybe not (lol) He would've been way better than Giovanni, anyway ... lol I think Will was just created as an answer to a problem they didn't really want to solve ... Still, he looked pretty cool lol

I have a theory about gold and silver, that they were originally aimed towards adults. But when Pokémon Had a massive boom among kids, they had to tone down the game to make it so that if any kids who enjoyed any other Pokémon media brought the games they could not be blamed for subjecting them to violence, sexuality ect.
Also I should specify I mean when it got big in America because they care a lot more about those kinds of things rather than japan
Well I doubt that was the case simply cause it sounds like a marketing nightmare to change the demographics over night like that. I think they just wanted more mature themes but cut it out.

The teacher sprites don't have whips they are pointers like when point out stuff on the chalkboard maps or strategic plans. Why would a teacher have a whip? Maybe a paddle but not a whip. Lol

The thing the teachers have, they're not whips but rather pointer sticks.
As i've said to others, while I did originally think of it as a pointer too, if you look at the end of it, it has the shape of the old teacher whips as opposed to a pointer. And with it being a game featuring plenty of whips, this fits.
