As a tuba player myself, I have to say Movement IV is one of the most exhilerating and fun pieces I have ever had the pleasure of performing. Great composition.
I heard this last week preformed by the Minnesota Orchestra with Eric Whitacre conducting and Steven Bryant controlling the electronic parts. I was absolutely amazed by it. This is possibly the best piece I've ever heard
oh my god the ending scared the crap out of me, i forgot there was applause and I'm sitting here at 3 in the morning doing homework while listening to this and the applause came up and well yeah...you get the idea
My school's Wind Ensemble is taking this piece to the National Music Festival this year. I have to say, when I heard them rehearsing Movement IV I about fell over in shock. 17:59 is by far my favorite part out of this entire suite. When the W.I. rehearsed it, the sound shook the walls and you could here them playing from the other side of our (fair sized) high school. I highly recommend listening to this, you won't regret it!
Steven Bryant - Thanks very much for the kind words about this performance. I just stumbled across this RUclips recording when doing some research for the History/Lit of the Wind Ensemble course I teach at Butler, and I had no idea that you were so pleased with our efforts. I certainly have fond memories of the performance, and was so happy you could be there for it. - Mike Colburn
What I can remember most from the USC Wind Ensemble's performance of this piece was not being able to comprehend my own thoughts from how loud the end of the third movement was. A moment I will never forget, ironically.
I performed this my junior year in high school with the symphonic band and it was my favorite piece! Went to state MPA’s and get all superiors with this song. Longest song I’ve ever performed
When I went to festival of winds last year here in florida mr Bryant and his wife were conductors for the bands. This piece was performed by the USF band and it was just so amazing to hear it in person and having mr.bryant helping on the electronics was awesome.
Oh my goodness, I was at FOW as a high schooler when USF performed this!!! This was one of my favorite memories of FOW! I still think about that performance to this day!
For context I’m a Bass Trombone player. When I first played this piece it was spring of 21. I was in the Wind Ensemble of my Junior College with with 6 other trombones 5 tenors and 2 basses (not saying everyone does this but please don’t believe in the stigma that Junior College bands can’t play music like this or that they’re not real colleges) and man this was unlike anything I’d played or heard before. When we started rehearsing this piece I was just so unbelievably bored because of all the empty space of silence we had because we didn’t start with the electronic patches. But once we started putting the electronics in that changed the atmosphere and vibe when we rehearsed this piece. And to add insult to injury, we were using our marching band speakers so it was crazy. And I remember when it got to around the 11:30 marker and the big bass impact I was in shock because this whole section made my chest vibrate. Still my favorite move of this piece is Mvt IV. Specifically the 16:41 - 19:02 maker. That big full band impact with the tension and release to where it finally resolves. Man. Every time I talk about when I played this piece I just remember how much fun this was. I haven’t gotten the chance to play again but would so love to as it is one of my favorite pieces of all. So thank you Mr. Bryant, for composing a very unique yet beautiful and fun piece.
One of my school’s bands is performing this at the WTSBOA All-State Convention in April 2023 in Opryland in Nashville, TN. This composition has a truly magical feeling to it - both performing it and listening to it. Thank you for writing this piece! Can’t wait to perform it!!
Currently playing Ecstatic Fanfare for our wind symphony and later using the full Ecstatic Waters for our 2017 marching band show! We could not be more excited
Mr. Bryant, this has to be my new favorite among symphonic pieces. It captivates a sort of beauty and darkness all at the same time. I have to thank my band director for showing this to me, and thank you for writing this amazing piece! Keep it up and come to JMU in Harrisonburg sometime!
Thanks! I was up at JMU about 2 or 3 years ago - they did Ecstatic Waters there and sounded fantastic. Tell Dr. Bolstad to do it again - I loved my visit to Harrisonburg and would love to come back! :)
Hi, Mr. Bryant! The JMU Wind Symphony is playing it again this fall! Please come back and visit us! We're really enjoying putting this piece together :)
This song is quickly becoming one of my favorite pieces... We are playing it right now in UWSP's wind ensemble, and so far it's been an amazing experience learning the piece!
This is one of my favorite pieces of all time. I had the pleasure of playing this at ULL two years ago. My favorite movements are Movements I and IV but just the whole transition from and explosion of light and color into beautiful darkness is phenomenal. Thank you for writing this piece.
I was talking to my Freshman band's band director (I'm a junior and I popped in on them playing The Machine Awakes) and I told him how much I liked it, and he told me about this piece, and movement IV in particular Great great music
I performed this piece at OMEA when I was in college and I remember feeling like such a badass playing the bass clarinet part! Now I teach in Alaska and I play this recording for my middle school band when they learn about how technology can be used for performance.
We are playing this piece at ECU this year and performing it late October. I love this piece so much and I'm so excited! P.S. I am a clarinet player :)
Haha loved hearing this live at USF for festival of winds. Definitely one of my best weekends being able to be conducted by your wife and hear amazing stories about you! Love it!
I had the privilege of performing this composition while under the direction of Prof. (Col.) Colburn. Being wired up to the mic during the clarinet solo... I’ll never forget those rehearsals or performance ☺️ (Just to clarify, I’m not the clarinetist in this recording. We (as a University Wind Ensemble) were directed by Prof. Colburn 🥰)
+awesome14fav That's soon! Are you playing Ecstatic Fanfare or the whole Ecstatic Waters (with electronics)? Could you post the concert on my website if you have a second? Thanks! www.stevenbryant.com/concerts/submit
+awesome14fav Hey there - did you guys end up playing Ecstatic Waters last October? Which Mill Creek HS - are you in Georgia? Hope you Horns played the hell out of it! :)
Steven Bryant I've actually changed my mind about it. I'm a cellist and I played the orchestral version of it at Governor's School and sort of fell in love with it. I was very annoyed at first that I had to play something so different, but I think it's given me a new perspective on music in general. Also wow, I didn't expect my little comment to get a reply directly from you.

Oh yeah man, it’s awesome

I wish there were a recording of that. Or the orchestral version in general :/
oh my god the ending scared the crap out of me, i forgot there was applause and I'm sitting here at 3 in the morning doing homework while listening to this and the applause came up and well yeah...you get the idea

Came across this for the first time today and I can honestly say that I am obsessed. This is absolutely perfect in every way.
Wow this is so exciting to listen to, especially for the first time. It's like going on a journey through the depths of the ocean. Very engaging!

18:01 reminds me of the opening hit from the Columbians drum and bugle corps 2022 show, i wonder why.
My high school marching band is using this piece!

having this song played live is the most amazing thing I've experienced.
That horn is tasty.

Gave me chills. We're doing this for our marching show this year.

I am impressed by this work. Well done, Steven Bryant.
Playing this with the Texas State University's very own Wind Symphony!

Mr. Bryant Stephen Bryant?
Collin Roycraft Is that a question about my name? It's Steven with a "v," btw.
My apologies on your name. I'm just amazed by your skills as a composer. Right now I'm playing bloom one of your many masterpieces
LSU symphonic winds are performing this and low key they sound better then the marine band
well this is a recording it will never be good as live.
Could have done without the large amount of coughs
ME CHIRRÍAN LOS OÍDOS… La música electrónica NO LE GUSTA A MI CEREBRO.
