I call her "Perfect Pitch Linda". She can sing any genre at a High level
If you’re a guy my age chances are you were in love with Linda Ronstadt in the 70’s.
Willie Nelson said 'there are 2 kinds of men; those who know nothing of her & those who have a big crush on her---
oh, yes, I still am.
Yep yep me tooo
Every time I see Linda’s of Poor Wandering One from Pirates of Penzance rendition, I fall more in thrall with this tremendous lady. What a gift she is!
Willie Nelson said it best and if you are really from the 70s, you know what that was.
Linda is my absolute favorite singer ever!. God is there anyone better?
Mine as well. Really close for me is Jewel
My absolute favorite!!!
None better than Linda Ronstadt!!!
My favorite female vocalist. She was only 21 when she recorded with the stone ponies. Michael Nesmith wrote the lyrics to different drum.
She is such a treasure! I can NOT believe that she was not inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame until 2014! I am baffled! 11 Grammys', best selling non-english speaking album of ALL TIME, multiple genre' accolades including Broadway and Opera, instrumental in helping Glenn Frye and Don Henley form "The Eagles" along with a recording contract. it does not make any sense! Just a Wonderfull, gracious, approachable person!
Glenn Frye said the same thing when he spoke at her induction ceremony. She influenced so many people and has deserved every award she has received. A national treasure.
If there were a Mount Rushmore of Female Singers, Linda would be on it (Right next to Karen Carpenter, Aretha Franklin and Patsy Cline)
Don't leave out Eva Cassidy
Oh I just put an Eva Cassidy request on my very long comment!
excellent choices
She s the top of the hill
Don’t forget about Whitney Houston.
Linda has been my goto standard for female singers since her first release yes I am old 72, she was soon joined by Karen Carpenter and Mama Cass Elliot this was the 70s . Six months ago I came across Lucy Thomas and was blown away all-over again stright into the standard setting and only just turning 19 this month. Given all the plastic pitch correcting blandness so common now it gives new hope for talent winning through.
One year behind ya. She was the gold standard. I hear her on a cassette as we trucked through the Catskills in a Ford van with a big dog.
Yep. Been in love with her forever. Me. 68.5
don't forget Barbra and Diana Ross
Would loved to have heard your reaction to Linda doing Pirates of Penzance, "La Charreada", and "What's New" with Nelson Riddle Orchestra, three completely different genres.
Oh my! I love Linda Ronstadt ♥️ 1967, Different Drummer. I was in junior high. ❤️
"Different Drum" was written by the late, great Mike Nesmith of The Monkees. Linda's early stuff is phenomenal. I love her more country-tinged songs like "Love Has No Pride" and "Someone To Lay Down Beside Me". "Long Long Time" is also beautiful and heartbreaking if you go for that kind of thing (which I do). She was just such a versatile singer. Most of her big hits were remakes, but she put her own stamp on the songs.
IMHO the greatest most versatile singer of all time. Range, phrasing ,dynamics, power, subtilty, enunciation, emotion, vibrato. PERFECT.
Linda's first hit. You heard it and you were sold. The pretty face was the cherry on top.
Great stuff, Renee. Linda's traditional Mexican album is an ABSOLUTE MUST! ''Songs of My Father'' is the album. "La Charreada" is a great cut from it. And LOVE hearing your beautiful voice!
The power and control of Linda Ronstadt as a singer combined with her amazing career was so unique.
In a small way, Faouzia reminds me of Linda. If Linda was born in Moroccan. We’ll see how Faouzia’s career goes.
Maggie, you've a great voice. Setting aside Linda's gorgeous voice and control, I've always loved her willingness to take musical risks. Whatever genre she tackles, she does it with integrity. She'll modulate her style and tone to suit the genre. Big fan!
"Long Long Time" is devastatingly great,,,,thank you Maggie
You're No Good is my all time favorite out of all of Linda's songs.
Blue Bayou was written and recorded by Roy Orbison
The GOAT…Linda Ronstadt
Just discovered your channel/videos, while searching for Linda Ronstadt reaction videos !!…. She was the greatest, most versatile singer ever( still with us , but sadly now unable to sing now , due to an awful and cruel condition which robbed her of that amazing voice 🙏🙏)…Howvwer , if you watch her interviews, you will see how interesting, witty and intelligent she still is…talking about her life, career and people she cared about…I agree about the Mount Rushmore ‘comment’ from one of your subscribers 👍🙏👏….But maybe I would put her on her own , and just above the other five greatest voices, but then I’m extremely biased!!!… My favourite songs of hers are the Mexican ‘Songs of My Father’…totally amazing!!😱…,PS…I am now a subscriber!, thank you 😃👏🇬🇧…from UK … 14:44
Welcome! Thank you for your comment. 🤗
Linda's voice makes me cry. The pure beauty of it. I guess I can't really process it, so tears.
Yes.
Ive always absolutely loved everything about Linda.....nobody is better or more beautiful
My favorite lady with her beautiful music and voice. I've been listening to Linda since the 60s when she was with the Stone Ponys. She has a voice that she can sing anything. She does Smokey Robinson songs.
Blue Bayou, written by Joe Melson and Roy Orbison (Roy also sang it).
Also BEAUTIFULLY!
Maggie Renee, don't leave your learning about Linda Ronstadt until you have listened to her La Charreada.
Beautiful!! Congrats Maggie!!
Linda defined generations of music 🎶 one of the greatest vocalist of generations doesn’t matter what genre it is she can sing it all, Amazing artist ❤🎶
Linda has been my #1 singer since her first song in 1967, "Different Drum" I have in all those years been listening to Linda daily. BB is my favorite.
I fell in love with that voice when this song first came out. She just got better over the years. Yup! I'm THAT old.
Linda Ronstadt was my teenage crush
History's Greatest Singing Voice!!!
no one ever mentions her percussion timing. She's amazing with the tambourine.
Her timing with her voice to is unparalleled. She once said that was her true gift.
Check out Linda singing Long Long Time, La Charreada, Blue Bayou, so many more!
These modern day podcasts tickle me. Bless their hearts. They have to go back in time to look and listen to real singers and musicians. Yep, before MTV we had real bands playing real instruments and really singing. It was amazing!!!!!!
Truly the BEST female vocalist for almost 60 years. Sad to see illness end such a magnificent career. Thank God we have someone to take up her position of greatness now and for the foreseeable future. Thank God for Angelina Jordan.
Ladies and gentlemen ! Miss Linda Ronstadt !
FYI Kenny Rodgers was her bass player in the Stone Ponies band.
Thanks so much for that tidbit. I love hearing trivia about my favorite artists ❤️
Kenny Edwards
You will love Linda singing the "Standards" with the Nelson Riddle orchestra, fine stuff with that voice. What's New and What Will I Do are two that come to mind offhand.
Is that Sally Field? LOL... Linda is a bad ass!
Hi Maggie...my birthday is July 12th also! Singers as good as Linda (and there are few) energize the soul. Even when they sing softly, they make my heart almost burst. Such beauty is so necessary.
Loved your analysis of Linda's vocals which I always knew were special but not having any training couldn't express what mase her vocals so beautiful and wonderful.
Besides everything else, I'll always call her "Perfect Pitch Linda." Because she can sing any genre at a high level. For example, Angel Records
has released "Always - A Tribute to Patsy Cline" on November 7, 2003 with older songs - featuring stars of the world's concert, recital and
opera stages - in performances that celebrate their authentic, liberating spirit. And they are: Linda Ronstadt, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa
and The Jordanaires. It was very successful & profitable than the so-so overdub one from October 24, 1980 for Mercury Nashville,
24 years later.
Look at Poor Wandering One where she sings Coloratura Soprano for a year on Broadway in Pirates of Penzance....and her songs with Nelson Riddle and his Orchestra....Wha'ts New...When you Wish Upon A star, They're singing songs of love but not for me....I get along without you very well etc...and to hear the POWER in her voice check out La Charreadea where she made the number one all time best selling album in Mexico sung in Spanish...
Wait until you hear her sing her Spanish songs. WOW!!!
She did some really fun songs on the muppets, and her songs in animated movies like Feivel goes west, were magical.
I grew up listening to everything she did. She's just fantastic every time and so gorgeous I probably loved her since I was 6-7 years old, lol.
Linda performed as Mabel Stanley in "The Pirates of Penzance" at the theater in Central Park, letting the coloratura in her take flight back in 1980, reprising her role in a 1983 film of the same. Yes, her voice is that good.
Saw it at the movies when it came out. HATED that I wasn't able to watch it LIVE. I was a senior in high school and NYC was practically mythological, I subsequently worked for many years at the Public/NYSF Shakespeare in the Park
@@chrisfields4945 Good for you that you worked for them--very cool. I saw her live there in 1980. I'd known her music for years and by 1980 she was already established as music royalty (with many years of astounding greatness ahead of her), but most of us radio/record rockers didn't know she could perform operatically. There really is no genre which was beyond her ability.
Wonderful!
Linda Ronstadt way back when Late 50's early 60's while stationed at San Diego Marine Corps Base..In Hollywood,Los Angels,San Francisco/Oakland.when stationed at Naval Treasure Island Base. And now all of her superlative recordings on the internet...
I will always be in love with Linda Ronstadt!
This is the first song that put her on the map.
❤ Best reaction to this song - THAT'S how you give respect to a legendary performance.
I saw her in 1977 in Houston. what an Angelic voice
My best friend was able to see her in Fresno 1977 tour. It's the biggest regret of my life that I wasn't able to go. I had to start college which was too far away.. She is the music of my life. I feel so sorry she's been ill. But such is life. Thanks, Maggie. Rob
I'd love to see your other reactions to Linda but I couldn't find them on Twitch.
You should listen to her Spamish music as well. La Cigarra is one of her best renditions. She sang it in a very operatic voice. You won't be disappointed! Language barrier with me, but I enjoyed it! Lol
Try to find LINDA AND ARRON NEVILLE DOING A DUET AT THE KENNEDY CENTER.. SO BEAUTIFUL YOU WILL LOVE THEM TOGETHER
THANK YOU🤗
In the late 70s and early 80s in Major League Baseball a "Linda Ronstadt" was the term for a pitch so fast it left batters watching it go by. Because it just "blew by you".
You have to hear her version of the Eagles song "Desperado", Don Henley, from the Eagles, said Ronstadt's version was the best
Love ya, keep keeping on
Have always ❤❤❤Linda ! She could and did, sing anything!
to me, L.R. 'best' is on utube - the first show of 'Midnight Special ' - long long time. there is also a full vide in good quality of a Concert in Germany, Her ' hit band year' I think '75.
Linda is America's 1st female rock star.
I believe she was 21 when she recorded with The Stone Poneys.
Try Prisoner in Disguise, and just about anything else off that album. I've worn out one vinyl and have some wear on the one I have now. First copy I purchased when the album debuted.😊
The greatest female singer of our time....or any time.
I was and still am a fan of her.
Written by Michael Nesmith of the Monkees.
Allegedly, she recorded this in one tree take not even knowing they had changed the arrangements she had rehearsed. So she was like, what's happening? Where is this song going?
Mike Nesmith of the Monkees had a hit with a Linda Ronstadt classic “Different Drum,” This song was one that he’d written that he had given to Linda.
Great vid, as always. If you are still looking for music to experience, may I suggest "I CALL YOUR NAME" by Cass Elliot with the Mammas & the Pappas.
No one mentions this song was actually written in 1964 by.... Michael Nesmith (of the MONKEE'S).
Thank you!!!!
def sounds Juilliardie!!! Props!!
Linda see Stone Pony's sometime in the mid to late 60's. And Yes, you pronounced it correctly. You should listen to "Orion Look Down." That would be off either their first or second album, its packed away so I can't refer to liner notes.
You need to see her do POOR WANDERING ONE from PIRATES OF PENZANCE
I saw a list recently of the greatest female singers. Linda was not on it. How is that possible?
As a suggestion, Linda Ronstadt's "La Cigarra", from her "Canciones de me Padre" (songs of my father) Album although it was released in Nov, 1987, in todays world, almost any other album title, and she would be accused of "cultural appropriation".
You have a lovely voice. I"d love to hear you do the aria feom " Aida. ).
I remember seeing her on TV as a barefoot very young lady.
You should do Roy Obison's original Blue Bayou also.
18:18 - that "cry in the voice" or la voz llorada" is characteristic, I think, of Mexican ranchera style - which in her eclectically musical family, Linda would have been singing since early childhood. ❤
At first, they started out as the backing band to the incredible Linda Ronstadt during her 1971 tour. The Eagles are one of the most iconic bands from the 1970s. While the band members have changed over the years, the founding members were Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner.
And she has a Phd from the University of Arizona
I would love to hear your take on one of her operetta songs from Pirates of Penzance and from her all Spanish album
You of all people Maggie, need to react to her singing "Poor Wondering One" :)
Please, please, please..."Adios" by the great Jimmy Webb & arranged by Brian Wilson Of The Beachboys. He sings backup vocals, too. It's absolutely gorgeous.
Yea !!!
Probably the best mezzo-soprano ever to grace popular music.
What a great fun reaction. Yeah Linda has a huge catalog of great songs... She was my girlfriend in 1979... Nobody knew it... Not even her... Lol...
Ha! Wait a second so we were in throuple and NONE of us knew?!?
do Linda La Charreasa to hear her power, poor wandring one...pirates of penzance she did this for a year on broadway and is a coloratura soprano
, what's new with nelson Riddle and orchestra, She and Aaron Neville duet, tumbling dice tohear her rock and roll...several of Nelson Riddle they made 3 albums of the american song book...I get along without your very well, when you wish upon a star, I'm a fool to want you....Linda. Dolly, and Emi Lou Trio...to name just a few..
Totally agree with your recommendation of Linda singing La Chereasa(spelling wrong??)…It is completely amazing and the most joyful to listen to…She is fabulous!!!
@@suejames6808 Yes I misspelled....have cataracts and was reading it and typing , and missed the spelling...have you see the documentary Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice? has her story of her career and ALL of her songs. It is on You Tube. Came out on, PBS, I think...She was number one on the C&W, R&B and Rock charts at the same time and sold 5 consecutive platinum albums...mostly multi platinum. Her best songs, for me, are the series with Nelson Riddle....Jim
@@suejames6808 I am 78 so I saw her and all the others at the Troubadoor sp.. got to see her in her prime...for Women...she is the greatest voice ever...for Men, it is Freddie Mercury.
@@pres96ton yes, I saw the sound of my voice on u tube, several times over… Such a great conversationalist too !!!…amazing life and recollections, and funny and quite witty….and a great reader also!!!…Another great interview (u tube again)..is 2013 National Book festival at your National Library of Congress…where she is on great form..and answers questions from audience.. very amusing…A Great Lady 👌👌. Think that Freddie Mercury was so talented too,…however, I was really into Mowtown music, around that time, and admired Smokey Robinson , who wrote songs and sang them too(but there were so many good songs from that ‘place’….He sang with Linda, as you will know!….so a double delight for me ❤️❤️…
Oh to have seen all those acts at the Troubadour!!! It was thrilling to see the footage in The Sound of My Voice-and Rocket Man. Well you had a front seat on music history!
How can I watch the Twitch video? I’m late to the party 😢
Linda did opera too.
"It's in my left ear," she says, pointing at her right ear. :)
Remember the day 80 motorcycles Blue Bayou?...
Sweetie, listen to linda ronstadt when I grow to old to dream
“Blue Bayou” Written by a guy who could sing pretty good-The Big ‘O’. Roy Orbison.
“Different Drum” Written by Michael Nesmith-one of the greatest songwriters and also one of the greates Monkees.
I grew up in the 70's, no mystery to me. I also see Dolly Parton, Emmy Lou Harris and Johnny Cash.
Sing was written by Michael Nesmith of The Monkees. Producers for The Monkees didn't think it would work as a Monkees hit so he gave to Linda Ronstadt.
Did you think we had stereo back then? We didn't really have stereo until FM radio became above ground and available. This was probably cut in 64, 65? Yeah, we didn't have stereo, or headphones for the public. I could give classes in the birth and progression of Rock and Roll 😊
I don't know if you are still looking back at this, but if you are an opera singer, listen to her in the Pirates of Penzance.
see if you can find her live performance of "Pirates of Penzance" in central park. Not the best audio quality but good enough to get a sense of her ability to do G&S.
