Just bc your dryer is making a noise doesn't always mean something bad is wrong my dryer was making the same sound when I took it apart there was a broken zipper stuck in the front of the drum once it was out stop banging so check the edges of the drum to see if anything is stuck there first

I have a kenmore 500 that is 13 years old and when tumbler spins there is a thumping noise.... i changed the belt, rollers, and idler..... thumping still there under further investigation i noticed where the two pieces of the drum are welded together there is a bump from the weld..... so i figured when the dryer was new, the rollers would have been softer and after years of use they hardened.... i bought replacement from amazon and apparently those rubber wheels are also extremely hard and still thumping.... i guess we will live with the thump... dryer still works and dries clothes.... screw the noise it is making.... spent 18.00 dollars for the kit... not too bad for 13 years of service other than it did not fix the thump sound....

I know this is old but I just did the same thing and have the same machine and have the same problem. I was disappointed because I thought I fixed it and it still made the noise. Just wanted to say thanks for leaving this comment, at least I know I'm not alone!

Same here, right where the weld is! I get a mild thump, everything works just fine though.

I cannot remove the kid on my old Maytag. I've tried using the putty knife technique, but it's not working. I can see the clips.

Sorry for my earlier typo. I am surprised children's services wasn't immediately dispatched to my house. I said, "I cannot remove my "kid" from my Maytag Dryer...". I figured it out. At the bottom front (about 6 inches from the floor) are two screws. One on the left and one on the right. Remove them, and while grasping under the front of the frame slowly rotate it upwards as if you're lifting a good.

A flashlight on the idler pulley would have helped.
