You could tell Mektic and Pavic were the experienced doubles players. The camera view was awesome. Very enjoyable video. I felt like I was there in person.

Ruud and thiem both seem almost equally ineffective in doubles. Their only chance is to try and blast their way through the net players, but the other 2 are way too good. When pavic/mektic were both at the net it was pure death 😅 each volley that they hit made it more and more difficult to pick up and get underneath the next groundstroke, and then ruud or thiem would almost always hit long (if there wasnt an outright killshot from the croats). Great match to watch, even though it wasnt that close

How many times Ruud hit it right to the net person baffles me. Like, it’s almost as if Pavic was invisible to him lol.

Today's singles are not about finesse but sheer power. The singles guys have better ground strokes but the doubles know when and how to hit with finesse. If you don't like long rallies, don't watch singles... I also like doubles, it sometimes look like a different game.

I mean they are not doubles players, so it was an understandable defeat. But, non the less good match.

@@notyouraveragespiritraven5143 It is precisely what trainers teach you: Volley back properly instead of going for a difficult winner. So I guess it is you that do not know what you're talking about.

best guess is since his injury he just feels shame/disappointment about not being able to get back to us open 2020 level and its affecting his mental and shotmaking abilities. takes a lot to get past that especially when there's pressure from all angles and everyone's commenting about how his career is over because his forehand doesn't get past the service line. pretty rude to kick him when he's down if you ask me.

0:44 is a good example. There's no reason for him to be there. He isn't used to playing doubles. I think with time he'd be decent. They all would, of course. Very good match nonetheless.

Love Ruud, but he has the worst volley by any player in the top 20 in history. He has no hands and no net game. Look how many points he's lost at net just on this highlight. All success is from the baseline. Not sure if it's more comic or tragic.
