Yngwie's ability is undeniable. He's a total legend and still has the self-awareness of Spinal Tap. He is literally a one-man Spinal Tap. He should have a reality show.
I wonder if there's anyone who has watched this video as much as I did (must have been over 30 times, I keep coming back to it) :D. It just always makes me smile. And I don't even know Yngwie Malmsteen, I just stumbled on this by chance...
Thank god someone finally point this out! In response to those people I quote Kelsey Grammar: 'If less is more, just think how much more more would be'
To the people raggin on Yngwie, want exactly do you want from the guy? A humble apology and him to play 70s blues licks for the rest of his life? If he did that, he wouldn't be Yngiwe. If you don't like him, bore off and listen to something else.
You know, I'm wondering - it's easy to complain about people not agreeing on a topic we're passionate about i.a. Malmsteen's playing, however my question is - what's the point of arguing about it in the first place? Nothing comes to my mind except venting your anger on someone else
Its where the notes are going thats important. some.ppl do it by adding more space, where as yngwie uses less... but hia note choice and fluidity and phrasing is second to none and spot on . He isn't a mechanical shredder. How can anyone dictate to him on how to play a music style he dictated and revolutionised! He is a legend and an incredible musician. If he really wanted to be then he would be much more appealing to those that don't understand. .. but he chooses to play how he wants to play. good on ya !
This is one of my most-used quotes. As applied to pretty much everything. Movies, for example. Look at Everything Everywhere All At Once - absolutely a movie built on the Yngwie Principle. "How can less be more? MORE is more!"
Because what people who claim that "less is more" really meant was "less is better." But then they too have to explain why they think that less is better. At the end of the shred, so to speak, to say that less is better is subjective. And, correctly, more is certainly more. It could never be less. I love everything that Malmsteen does with the guitar. Such a consistent and relentless artist he is.
For those wondering where this came from...it's from the first episode of the excellent documentary TV show, "Metal Evolution." It includes interviews from other metal legends too and trust me, this isn't the only silly statement to be made...
I admit I was being a smart ass. I have no problem with the opinion that he always plays too fast as long as you don't think that it therefore must be mindless or emotionless. There is such a thing as fast playing with emotion (maybe you know this).
I think this is a combination of the fact that he is not a native English speaker (taking things at face value) and his no holds barred attitude towards guitar. Either way, truly one of a kind and a living legend of neoclassical metal/rock
Less actually can be more and more is always more but when it comes to logic and in the case of his style of playing he´s right. Less can´t be more to play fast like Yngwie but he does sometimes put less "working" effort in when example playing fast scales by using the eco-pick technique and hammer-ons/pull-offs. So in the terms of "work" it´s not 100% true there but when it comes to his music in general there´s nothing less about it. And yeah yeah "less notes = more melody" bla bla but that´s not the point in this case but otherwise there are different angles to look at it.
A lot of people here seem to have thought that Yngwie would actually be reading through these comments. You should have saved your explanations, people. He isn't reading them. :)
One of the guitar gods. I never understood the "its too much shredding" criticism, If you dont like blistering guitar solos why are you listen to an Yngwie album? Its like being vegan and going to a steak house
To say that all F1 & GP racer should slow down at the speed on 360mph and ask them to slowdown like their driving at the beach at 30mph are imposibble!! You say that they speed at 360mph has no soul and guts? Speed is speed..and Yngwie did it with full hearted and soul.
A lot of people here pretends they know what soul and melody is. doesn't mean you play slow it means more soul. doesn't mean you play fast you cant have melody. it doesn't matter if your slow or fast ,soul and melody could be present in both..and also bending notes slowly doesn't equate to passion and soul.
Malmsteen is one of the best guitarists I've ever heard. However, he's not someone I want to listen to all the time. I don't think comparing him to David Gilmour is helpful because they don't have too much in common other than both being guitarists.
Yngwie Malsmsteen DESTROYS Slow guitar players with FACTS AND LOGIC
BlackSheep lmfao
*EPIC*
Funny as fuck, and true as fuck.
Fast don't care about your feelings.
Lmao
Love Yngwie. The snobbishness of a classical musician with the ego of a rock star.
Wow, hahahah.
That's cause he is a classically trained musician and also a rockstar.
TuningSociety West Yep exactly
What a description hahah
A beautiful mix
Yngwie's ability is undeniable. He's a total legend and still has the self-awareness of Spinal Tap. He is literally a one-man Spinal Tap. He should have a reality show.
He did. It was called him moving to South Florida. We all just missed it. It played out in real life there.
uhm no he does not have a shred (haha, funny) of self awareness.
@@maxhult830 Yngie is one louder.
The guy believes 100% what he says and he has the skills to back it up.
Absolute mad lad Yngwie
My all time favourite interview segment ever.gold on so many levels
This clip is funny coz he means it, not even a hint of irony!
Exactly. You got it, bro! :D
That's the Yngwie we all love.
Because it's true!
@@Metalhead_P Yes, more is more!
@@Metalhead_P Less can be better but it cant be more. More is more.
This reminds me so much of Spinal Tap. "But this goes to 11."
This piece is called "Lick my love pump"
And "The Marshoul amps"
I'd be curious to hear his opinion about jazz.
'How can less be more?..More is more' Classic Malmsteen.
Comedy genius. The delivery is just perfect.
I wonder if there's anyone who has watched this video as much as I did (must have been over 30 times, I keep coming back to it) :D. It just always makes me smile. And I don't even know Yngwie Malmsteen, I just stumbled on this by chance...
I watch this everyday. He’s the Sun Zu of heavy metal.
This clip is a perfect description of Yngwie's style
I can look at this a 100 times. And the wisdom still strikes me.
I love yngwie i know some people think hes arrogant but i just find him so funny and hes such a good player
He is absolutely right! I am a mathematician and a guitar player.
This one goes up to 11.
There is Moore's Law and then there is Yynwie J Malmsteen's More's Lore.
The Jean-Claude Van Damme of the guitarists.
Charlie P Except he has talent.
Charlie P ...OMG that is the most accurate description of YJM I've ever heard.
+Charlie P lol
He reminds me Donald Trump
Did you know Jean Claude has a new cooking show? It is called Maximum Whisk.
Best books are those which contain most of letters. More is more.
I've been watching this clip every day for a week now. It just cheers me up.
This is my favorite scene from Spinal Tap.

Yeah Yeah, some people are just idiots. And people in this comment section are comparing him to Kirk Hammett, I mean seriously?

Malmsteen should have a role in the Expendables movie!
One of the greatest quotes of all time.
I just can´t stop watching it, hahahha. You got to love the guy.
0:08 always makes me laugh XD XD
Thanks for the timestamp, would have otherwise missed it
That means "yes yes yes yes" in swedish, being a bit irritated at the person and wanting to move forward. But I guess you knew that. Funny as hell.

Small is less like ice-cream. Ice-cream is good so it's more which is better. Less is more.
He's right though, less isn't more, more is more.
Classic Yngwie. That's why we love him.
Guys just accept that this is funny on so many levels ^^
WHAT INTERVIEW IS THIS?! god this is like the best thing ever hahahahah
But this knob here.. you see, this one, it goes to 11.
This always cheers me up.
Thats the way he likes to play man, leave him be. No one plays like malmsteen. It may not be everyones cup of tea, but the man can play.
FUCKIN BRILLIANT
Happy 50th Birthday, Yngwie! :)
Legend.
Pure gold. Master Yngwie
"How can less be more? It's impossible More is more" Quote of the century
Lol this is my new catchphrase. Done with a Swedish accent, of course.
Love this Yngwie's playing so much but let's never forget BB King, proof that less can be more.
Metalguitarplayers get this.
I love shredding, and I hate people saying less is more.
Shredding and arpeggios fit so well in metal.
People who can't shred: Less is more
People who can shred: More is more
It's that simpe folks
A modern remake of Spinal Tap should be made, and this scene has to be included.
Is there a full version of this video/interview ?
Best quote of all time
Less is more only if you can't handle raising the level.
raising the level to eleven?
i love Yngwie
He is so f+#+ right!
no he isn't
Logically he's not wrong but it's just a figure of speech it's not literal. Love Yngwie he's just a different breed. He doesn't hold back.
I fucking love this guy.
Is he secretly a member of Spinal Tap?!
Yngwie is the best heel in the business. Love that guy.
Love that line. More is more 😂
"Less is more" is only true when playing golf.
Tell that to Tiger Woods wife

Tell Shawn lane that less is more.

Less is more! With one exception Gary Moore is more!
And that is why Yngve Johann is not most famous for being the sharpest knife in the drawer. Got to love him though.
Funny how after that he says "it started as a joke but now is my motto"
Lol . You gotta love him
Hahahahahahaha, yesssssss more is more, it's eleven
I mean... He's not wrong
More is literally more
Its impossible !!!
Words of wisdom
The point is, more is more, but "more" doesn't necessarily sound better than "less"
