I don't remember where that phrase is from. It rings a bell. I wonder how they are going to repair those dings in the road? I guess Cersei really showed her mettle.
Margery, Mace, and Loras Tyrell. Kevan Lannister most likely. Lancel Lannister. Pycelle (from stabbing). This event was a massacre killing many we've come to know for years.
The High Sparrow had gone too far, it was his own pride and confidence that got him killed. Margaery's story still had potential that went to waste, she could have escaped together with her grandma for example... thankfully House Tyrell isn't completely in ruins, Olenna's still going (and Growing) Strong! She will exact a ruthless revenge along with Varys and Dany.
I love how everyone who wasn’t a member of the Faith Millitant actually tried to listen to Margaery’s warning because even they knew that Cersei would do something as screwed up as this.
I don’t think they knew Cersei specifically. She’s whispering to the High Sparrow when she’s talking about Cersei. But when the very composed Queen of the Seven Kingdoms who is adored by the people is telling you in a panic that they need to leave, they believed her.
@@erinclarke2695I for one would think Kevan would have his wits about him. She's his brothers daughter.....he was at Tywin's side when he ended two bloodlines. They are not to be underestimated.

Of all the casualties in this scene, Margaery and Loras are the only ones I feel sorry for. While I was watching this, I was smiling the whole time. The way Cersei planned this and how she got back to her enemies, wow, this is her masterpiece and I must say, I'm satisfied with this tragedy. And oh how she got back to Septa Unella, ooh, that's also satisfying.
With how deeply entrenched the sparrows were and house Tyrell creeping up the power ladder again, brute force was perhaps the only thing Cersei could use to displace them and put herself on the top again.
Natalie Dormer killed it in this scene. She is SO good! Voice, tone, urgency and fear, realising Cersei has set the worst in motion... and there is no way escaping it.
I was on team Tyrell, the only house playing the game of thrones with intelligence and with a true family spirit... Now they're almost all gone and the family has no future. Let's hope Olenna can avenge them !
nashee anjel Mace had two other sons in the books, Willas and Garlan who have not appeared in the show (and likely never will). He has male cousins and uncles, but not brothers. Olenna Redwyne's only remaining children are Janna and Mina, married to Jon Fossoway and Lord Paxter Redwyne respectively. So it stands that either House Fossoway or Redwyne would inherit Highgarden.
+Brynden Tully. Ah, thank u for letting me know. So on the show house Tyrell is done through mace's line, but n the books there are 2 other brothers to inherit the rights. Are the other boys of age and are they oafish and sword swallowers through n through as lady O puts it? Thanks for answering. I haven't read the books n am finding it hard to find recordings the actors did reading rather than sir Oxford. All his character voices sound the same n his voice puts me to sleep.
Arya's spent the last couple seasons learning to be an assassin and hide her feelings, function while blind, etc. Lancel's spent the last couple seasons following the High Sparrow. There's some film magic involved, too, but still.
If you remember, Bran actually had a flash back a few episode back then about the mad king and wildfire exploding. This wildfire scene was actually what Bran saw in his vision. The mad king didn't start the wildfire. The vision turned out to be something that was going to happen in the future--which Cercei was actually the one who use the wildfire.
D&d are pure genius. They gave us a hint on how bad the show's writing is going to blow up. Such a great use of symbolism in this scene. Just like the sept of baelor, good writing was never seen again on this show, the audience could only see the fumes from a distance not understanding what happened. The commitment of the writers is commendable.
To be fair, this scene itself is also really bad writing. Cersei (a figure who's already despised by everyone in the city and has been stripped of all her powers) blows up the most important religious building in the city at a point when religious fervor was at an all time high. The fact she wasn't executed or lynched for this is a good sign of just how cartoonishly terrible this show's writing became.
@@GARGANTUANMASKEDFISH nah this scene isnt bad...its the aftermath in season 7x01 that is bad...Cersei is crazy enough...stupid enough...and desperate enough to pull a stunt like this thinking itll work. It does in the short term...but soon after surely would have lead to her execution. This scene isnt bad it's the illogical nonsense that came after it that was bad...the fact she faced no consequences and remained in power somehow and could somehow have resources to be an even enemy against Dany.
Natalie Dormer... Damn, her acting is amazing. One moment she's acting all innocent "there's something wrong", the other " forget about the bloody gods and listen to what I'm telling you" (love her voice when she says that)
In its prime, Game of Thrones gifted us with some truly spectacular scenes, but this is arguably the best. The music, the editing, the performances, everything is firing on all cylinders. Cersei’s satisfied smirk as she realizes her plan has worked is one of the most iconic moments of the show, solidifying her as one of tv’s greatest villains. Just a masterpiece from start to finish. It really doesn’t get better than this!
I agree with you except for the to finish part. Calling that rushed ending a 'masterpiece' when literally it's own creators admit they rushed it is too much. There are many great book series that don't end in a satisfying way, and this show easily joins its ranks. It's a shame for what it could have been.
Can we just have a moment of silence for the shows best character... . . . . . . Mace Tyrell... may your journey to the gods be swift and full of song.
I went to a show where scenes from GOT were played while an orchestra played the music live and I remember hearing the drums from Blackwater, this music, and the piano leading up to the Night King’s death giving me chills. It makes the whole thing feel so much more real hearing such iconic music in person.
Yes! I vividly remember watching this episode the first time and the music and the mood of the scenes told you immediately that it was going to be something spectacular
I still can't get over how good this whole sequence is. Whoever edited this is a master. The timing and sequence of every clip woven together creates a perfect symphony of imminent destruction, topped off by mass murderer Cersei calmly sipping from her glass. Beautifully done!
That wouldn't help. The cast know nothing other than what they need to know & only when they need to know it. For example, most of them had no idea Jon Snow was alive until the episode aired, or they were filming a scene with him.
RemusBiscuits Yes, he knows 3 big things. I assume they are Jon's Resurrection, Wildfire & R+L=J or a third yet to happen event. But then, I guessed all of these anyway.
I didn't know what was going on until Margaery started freaking out, then the realization of what was about to happen set in. The way the whole scene unfolded was absolutely amazing.
I'm hoping we'll see some old and new buildings pop up in the intro for next season - two buildings specifically: -Dragonstone: Given it's the old ancestral seat of the Targaryens, I think it's a guarantee we'll see this location pop up again. Dany will want and need to establish a base there. -Casterly Rock: With Kevin Lannister's death (the acting Lord), that leaves Jaime as the heir. And who knows who is running Casterly Rock in the Lannister's stead. Dany is going to *need* to take over the Lannister seat, and she has all the tools needed in order to beat the infamously strong Lannister army: Dragons, Dorthraki, and Tyrion. It would be also really nice to see what Highgarden looks like. I think the first two are more likely to appear next season over Highgarden, but I've seen some gorgeous illustrations making Highgarden look like a palace that I'd want to move into in a hot second. XD
Ramin Djawadi never disappointet us with his music thorough all eight seasons of this Show. And the cue he composed for this Scene (Light of the Seven) is his masterpiece. Hands down.
Miguel Sapochnik facking nailed it, I'm sure he will get to be the director of some insane episodes next two seasons. Like Dany vs Cersei and the Living against The Dead. And make no mistake, the dead are coming.
He really did an incredible job but the reason I think this last episode is as good as the battle of bastards or maybe even better is just the actors making it happen the acting from the blacksparrow and natalie is just perfect it's insane. The execution was epic and also the scene where the kids murder the meister is just so violent it really ads all of this onto Cersei's character and at this point even her brother looks at her at the end like : what have you done
What so many fail to realize is that Queen Margaery was the most intelligent character in the entire series. Her use of pure logic and analytical thinking to weigh incomplete facts and arrive at the correct conclusion sets her apart as the Einstein of the GoT Universe. Best scene in the series and not because weird bad guys go boom in green fire...
It was Tywin who was the most intelligent really He was only blinded by his hatred of his history (his father that pretty much brought shame to the Lannister name) which is why he couldn't ever bring himself to respect his kids properly as each one of them reminded him of a part of his own father, Tyrion especially because he's a dwarf and the entire westeros mock them just like how they mocked and belittled the Lannisters during Tytos's time He was the most intelligent and most prominent player up until Tyrion killed h
@@Ben-vg6ox Tywin wasn't neccesarily the most intelligent, he usually just had the best hand along with his top shelf smarts. I'd argue Olenna was just as sharp as him, Margaery was well on her way to being in that tier as well. The difference is that Tywin had access to the crown and the Iron Throne. That's a hell of a trump card and Tywin knew it's value
@@Elthenar I'd say tyrjon was the most intelligent. He had few allies, yet accomplished so much in a city full of his enemies all plotting against him. People feared tywin so they dared not speak against him.

This is my favorite scene from the series I dont know how many times Ive watched it. The music is fabulous, the visuals.. the panic and the tension has been building up. everything is amazing
Not too frustrating. Cuz, ya know, hundreds of innocent people died in that explosion. Also, Cersei is pretty much responsible for all the times she has been "wronged" by her enemies.
Spencer James Hundreds of innocent people AND all religious nutjobs who would have turned King's Landing into theocracy leading to persecution of non-believers, homosexuals, and anyone else who doesn't conform to stupid religious rules for centuries to come. I agree that Cersei is evil and the Taliban takeover is actually her own fault, but it was satisfying as fuck to see Sparrows get rekt.
After pulling this stunt, it's pretty hard to believe that Cersei could take the Iron Throne and not have the entire city of King's Landing rebel against her. I don't think anyone liked the Faith Militant, but Margaery was still loved and there were a lot of innocent people in that sept.
Even if the people didn't liked the Faith militants, the seven Faith was the common religion in King's Landing, exploding them, the most loved Queen they ever had, hundreds of people who weren't even in the sept and causing indirectly the death of the king should have make the biggest rebellion ever seen The only reason it didn't happened it's because D and D just wanted to get rid of a bunch of characters, it was lazy writing
Cersei is what Machiavelli calls a “prince through crime.” No one is willing to oppose her (at least for the moment) after she does something so vicious, but they all hate her. She has power, but not the respect that should come with it. There’s no way for Cersei to rehabilitate herself and rule effectively; if she survived, she’ll would have to keep upping the violence level in order to remain in control. This is also why burning down Kings Landing is Dany’s fatal mistake; so long as she defeats Cersei, she’s the liberator that she envisions herself as. Destroy the city and the people know that they’ve just traded one monster for another.
@@robertbusek30 I heard the original plan was for danaerys to burn down the red keep to kill Cersei and Jaime but accidentally set off the wildfire stored throughout the city
With Daenerys' army landing at Dragonstone - all she would have to do is claim "Targaryen spies killed your beloved King, Queen and High Septon to cause disarray before the invasion" (the wildfire was even put there by Aerys - as Jaime would attest). I think she could have politically navigated around it - but of course this is season 7 & 8....
Im not gonna lie a part of me applauded Cersi for this. She said it herself when you play the game of thrones you either win or you die and man did she win lol.
LOL the High Sparrow was always going on about how he wasnt afraid of death and how much of an honour it would be to die for his god but when he realises he's about to die at 2:19 he looks scared shitless
I didn't think anything would be more satisfying then seeing the High Sparrow and that entire plot line come to its end, but the loss of Margaery negated the pure joy I expected to feel. Especially since she died because of someone else's unbelievable stupidity (which just isn't narratively satisfying).
I still remember the feelings I got during this episode, when you starting to think of what Cersei had planned on doing, the unease by the music, and then finally the reveal of some green liquid. Goosebumps! Wish you could remove your memories of these amazing series so you got to experience it all over again for the first time!
@@YaosaysObjection That's true, but she ended up becoming queen due to his death. But, aside from that? How there were no revolts or assassination attempts on her? How could Jaime stand by her side, when he murdered the Mad King for trying to do something similar? How could Randyll Tarly choose to help her over Olenna?
@@lisboahTwo completely different situations. Yes, Jaime killed Aerys as a preventative measure but it wasn't solely for the people. Aerys instructed him to murder his own father and bring him his head. That threat against his father was enough for Jaime to make that decision. I don't think enough time had passed to give us an immediate response to it, because it wasn't that long after this that Daenerys arrived in Westeros. This was a way for Cersei to sway the people to her side.
Honestly this orchestra is amazing. The way the build up the suspense is expressed through the music is beautiful and really effective, I could listen to it all day. The last two episodes were 10/10.
To be a good character you can be a villain. Think what you want of Cersei but she is a brilliant character and Lena Headey's portrayal of Cersei is magnificent. I'm glad they didn't make her die now. She will die given the prophecy, but it should be towards the end of the show. It's just great to have Cersei in the show.

Margaery deserved more. But at least she died in a badass scene before the show became trash
It was dumb. Shes trying to get out and then just stops to stare at the potato sack.

It's called Light of the Seven by Ramin Djawadi if you were wondering.

Is it not called Darude Sandstorm
Yeah it is

I can't believe they let Margaery die like that, one of the fastest-rising, shrewd and cunning minds in King's Landing...
Margery, Mace, and Loras Tyrell. Kevan Lannister most likely. Lancel Lannister. Pycelle (from stabbing).
This event was a massacre killing many we've come to know for years.
When you play the game of thrones, you win...or you die.
I'm still expecting that someone survived the explosion
The High Sparrow had gone too far, it was his own pride and confidence that got him killed. Margaery's story still had potential that went to waste, she could have escaped together with her grandma for example... thankfully House Tyrell isn't completely in ruins, Olenna's still going (and Growing) Strong! She will exact a ruthless revenge along with Varys and Dany.
She isn't an important character in the books, so she had to go soon...

I love love LOVE the way Marjorie’s voice changes while she’s speaking to the sparrow… she sounds like ollena for a moment
Even the High Sparrow was having second thoughts
@@erinclarke2695I for one would think Kevan would have his wits about him. She's his brothers daughter.....he was at Tywin's side when he ended two bloodlines.

Mace did not deserve it at all as well.
This scene really evokes the "power is power" feeling. This is literally cersei in her element.
With how deeply entrenched the sparrows were and house Tyrell creeping up the power ladder again, brute force was perhaps the only thing Cersei could use to displace them and put herself on the top again.
I remember grinning and raising my cup of coke with her lol
Well in her masterpiece she didn't take into consideration that Tom isn't the kind of person who would approve of this
Natalie Dormer killed it in this scene.

Many Tyrells remain Calculus! Mace had dozens of cousins, brothers and sisters to continue the line.
not yet in the show though :/
+Brynden Tully are there any remaining birthed by lady ollenna or her kids? i love that ol bird
nashee anjel Mace had two other sons in the books, Willas and Garlan who have not appeared in the show (and likely never will).
What I don't understand is Lancel had a small stab wound and could barely crawl but Arya got stabbed multiple times and was able to swim and run etc.
He is a faith militant pussy
Arya's spent the last couple seasons learning to be an assassin and hide her feelings, function while blind, etc. Lancel's spent the last couple seasons following the High Sparrow. There's some film magic involved, too, but still.
He was stabbed in the spine, therefore half paralysed.
I thought he was stabbed in his spine. Which is why couldn't move his legs at all.
Given the fact he was dragging limp legs it's likely he was stabbed in the spine.

The commitment of the writers is commendable.
bro is roasting the d&d like the wildfire roast potato sack man lol

The music in this scene is perfect. You really get the sense of impending doom. RIP Margaery.

That is my favorite event in the series. The musical buildup is fantastic.
I went to a show where scenes from GOT were played while an orchestra played the music live and I remember hearing the drums from Blackwater, this music, and the piano leading up to the Night King’s death giving me chills. It makes the whole thing feel so much more real hearing such iconic music in person.
it's insane how much they nailed the writing of this episode yet utterly fucked the entirety of season 8.
Yes! I vividly remember watching this episode the first time and the music and the mood of the scenes told you immediately that it was going to be something spectacular
The worst part is the near silence. There's some roar to the flames, but it's the absolute silencing of any screams because there is no one left.
"Forget about the bloody gods and listen to what I'm telling you." Such a great delivery

I still can't get over how good this whole sequence is. Whoever edited this is a master. The timing and sequence of every clip woven together creates a perfect symphony of imminent destruction, topped off by mass murderer Cersei calmly sipping from her glass. Beautifully done!

I just realized we'll be seeing the Lannister sigil on King's landing in next season's intro
And not the usual stag
Next season's intro will be very different considering everyone has come to Westeros
More like Cersei's grinning face on it.
I'm hoping we'll see some old and new buildings pop up in the intro for next season - two buildings specifically:
-Dragonstone: Given it's the old ancestral seat of the Targaryens, I think it's a guarantee we'll see this location pop up again.
XD
+Lexyvil Holy shit that needs to be photo shopped right now.
He should direct every episode from now on. Episode 9 and 10 of this season were just perfect.
I agree, he should direct all the 13 final episodes.
+Luke Strominger Yeah 2 or maybe 3 episodes is the max I think

Rewatching this scene after watching House of the dragon, all I could think about is “beware the beast beneath the boards”.
It was Tywin who was the most intelligent really
He was only blinded by his hatred of his history (his father that pretty much brought shame to the Lannister name) which is why he couldn't ever bring himself to respect his kids properly as each one of them reminded him of a part of his own father, Tyrion especially because he's a dwarf and the entire westeros mock them just like how they mocked and belittled the Lannisters during Tytos's time
He was the most intelligent and most prominent player up until Tyrion killed h
I agree
@@Ben-vg6ox Tywin wasn't neccesarily the most intelligent, he usually just had the best hand along with his top shelf smarts. I'd argue Olenna was just as sharp as him, Margaery was well on her way to being in that tier as well. The difference is that Tywin had access to the crown and the Iron Throne. That look on the High Sparrows face just before the explosion. Simply brilliant, just epic.
How frustrating would it have been if Lancel blew out the candles?
Not too frustrating. Cuz, ya know, hundreds of innocent people died in that explosion. Also, Cersei is pretty much responsible for all the times she has been "wronged" by her enemies.
Spencer James Hundreds of innocent people AND all religious nutjobs who would have turned King's Landing into theocracy leading to persecution of non-believers, homosexuals, and anyone else who doesn't conform to stupid religious rules for centuries to come.

After pulling this stunt, it's pretty hard to believe that Cersei could take the Iron Throne and not have the entire city of King's Landing rebel against her. I don't think anyone liked the Faith Militant, but Margaery was still loved and there were a lot of innocent people in that sept.
Even if the people didn't liked the Faith militants, the seven Faith was the common religion in King's Landing, exploding them, the most loved Queen they ever had, hundreds of people who weren't even in the sept and causing indirectly the death of the king should have make the biggest rebellion ever seen
The only reason it didn't happened it's because D and D just wanted to get rid of a bunch of characters, it was lazy writing
What about Jaime? Didn't he sacrifice his reputation to kill a tyrant who was going to nuke the city?
And what did Cersei just do?
@@robertbusek30
I heard the original plan was for danaerys to burn down the red keep to kill Cersei and Jaime but accidentally set off the wildfire stored throughout the city
That look they exchange right before it blows... Such good acting!

This scene has to be among the top 5 scenes in the entire show, if not outright the best.
As a HUGE Cersei fan from the very start, this was my favorite and most satisfying scene in the entire series.
Love how she swishes her wine after. This is my kind of woman.

Goosebumps! Wish you could remove your memories of these amazing series so you got to experience it all over again for the first time!
This is a magnificent scene, ruined by the fact that there were zero consequences for Cersei for blowing up the church using wildfire
