I love the fact that as each year goes on they get progressively more detailed or just have more stuff added on the original model from 2001 I hope I made a point this ain’t a hate comment btw
Train builders should take note from the 2001 and non-motorized 2004 sets that those wheels (and the other sort with the same-width groove) will work on train track. I only ever had the 2001 version. I wanted the motorized 2004 version when I saw it though, since it actually had a tender without me having to make one, and I wouldn't have to borrow wheels from the Railway Express anymore.
Or rather, I'd like to see the Chinese bootleg of the 2018 engine with them. Fun sets, but I don't like authors getting $ when they turn into their own villains.
The 2001 and 2004 sets especially, since the 2004 set was just a slight refinement of the 2001 design. The 2010 set has a bit more work done on tweaking the engine shape.
Things always get worse before they get better. The 2018 is much better than the 2010 that preceded it. However, I did have. The 2010 set when I was a kid as well as the 2004 set. I upgraded the 2010 set to at least have the 6 drivers and spaced out the front truck to be a little better at least.
Although the 2018 set is not without its tradeoffs. The coach is finally actually a corridor coach, but it's shorter and no longer rides on bogies. However, the station is the biggest we've yet had.
2010 is still the best one, overall. 2010 had Bogies and magnetic couplers. 2018 and 2023 have crummy technic couplers, and no bogies, and the passenger cars are smaller and uglier. Best of all worlds is the 2010 passenger car and tender , with the 2004 engine modified wuth the 2018 larger engine wheels.
Here is why I don’t think 6972 should be scrapped. Why I don’t think 6972 should be scrapped is because it wasn’t.And here is why I don’t think NPCRR 25 should be scrapped.why I don’t think No 25 should be scrapped is because it wasn’t.
Highly similar in engine and coach designs, but they do have key differences (some of which can be seen by paying attention to the builds). 4708 has a hinged smokebox and a hinged boiler, with the boiler doubling as luggage storage for Harry's trunk; there's also a mechanism to eject the trunk. 4758 has a removable boiler top instead of hinged, and a sliding internal cover over the compartment (restricting the space). 10132 ditches the sliding cover for a hinged tray that can be used to dump coal into the firebox. And of course comes with a tender, the 9V motor bogie, actual train wheels, and track. Additionally, 4708 comes with Platform Nine and Three Quarters, 4758 comes with a small Hogsmeade Station platform, and 10132 comes with the Hogsmeade Station building; and both PoA sets come with glazing for the windows. The identical coach design isn't a bad thing IMO (altho it does come at the cost of not correcting the lack of corridor connectors). It means that if you got all three sets, the coaches would match perfectly.
I honestly am going to get the hogwarts express and use it for parts to build james the red engine, i have the wheels, just not proper parts for the body and tender.
Rogue Sans i actually made thomas, paxton, and flynn, as well as timothy the ghost engine, another ghost engine whose a "lover" for timothy someone made on deviantart and lilly from fire engine sam
Imo, the 2018 is the worst-looking version. I like the gimmick of moving pistons, but where Lego succeeded with the Emerald Night, they have sorely failed here. The Emerald Night succeeds because the wheels are CONNECTED with axles and coupling rods. The 2018 Hogwarts Express doesn’t. And two other things: 1) the boiler is too elliptical in shape to be a legitimate boiler, and 2) as with Lego’s other steam engines, the tender is either nonexistent or too small to be effectively realistic. You’re free to form your own opinions on the set, but this is just my two cents’ worth. Good videos as always! :)
Has Anyone Noticed The Nameplate? It Sais "Hogwarts Castle" But It Should Be "Hogwarts Hall" Or "Hogwarts Express" Cus In The Harry Potter Film (And in Real Life) It Was A GWR Hall Class. Man lego..
Yes, it was a Hall-class in the films. A Hall-class that, for the movies, wore nameplates saying "Hogwarts Castle" (leading to railfans snarking that Olton Hall was now "the Hall that thinks it's a Castle") Don't blame Lego for this, blame Warner Brothers.
10132 is from 2004 as well :P But yes, 4708 and 4758 lack tenders and that's a definite mark against them. I remember being swift to knock together my own tender for 4708 when I got it for Christmas in 2001
@@MADABOUTLEGO That's ture. Making a train which even isn't able to run on tracks is a silly idea, i think. The 75955 has some cool parts, but all in all 10132 is the most "ready"/complete of all of them. :-o
@@MADABOUTLEGO Might be worth a shot. I suspect the derailments are due to the pilot truck bumping into the drive wheels because the 2L beam doesn't provide a whole lot of clearance.
@@jamesgroccia644 It actually _does_ look a bit chubby because of the way they tried to make the boiler be round; the shallow curved pieces on the sides together with the 2-stud width of the top make it end up looking fat compared to the "angularized cylinder" approach of the previous efforts. It doesn't help that this approach ends up making the Belpaire firebox less distinct from the boiler.
@@lorlor4119 The 2010 tender had 4 wheels too, but it wasn't as stubby. I think the tender and coach both had size sacrificed to allow the bigger station. Although said station is itself wanting in ways, due to using part-tile plates where it should have just used standard plates.

I'd like to see the 2018 engine with the coaches from all prior versions, and possibly the motorized 2004 version's tender in place of its own.
Or rather, I'd like to see the Chinese bootleg of the 2018 engine with them. Fun sets, but I don't like authors getting $ when they turn into their own villains.

Aren't we forgetting the miniature one in the Lego Dimensions teampack? Hmm?
Well...... it's not big enough for the track😂🚝
I have the 2001 set I didn't know it was older than 10 years

Hello
2018 looks good but a bit chubby
It's not chubby, it's too tall.
