Mas they actually are, as someone in the comments a different but related youtube video said
one person said, “Aung San Suu Kyi has proven to be just as willing to turn a blind eye to genocide as her military predecessors.”
to which some guy replied, “To give her the benefit of the doubt, it isn't like she or the civilian government could do or say much. The military junta didn't give the reins of power to a democratically-elected government, they agreed to share a certain amount of power with said elected politicians. The military had a guaranteed 25% of all seats in the national legislature, which means Constitutional amendments are impossible unless the military agrees.
In other words, Myanmar has only been a "democracy" for the last decade because the military said it could be one.
Sure, Aung San Suu Kyi or her party could have taken a more forceful line against what the military is doing to the Rohingya - in which case what happened yesterday would have happened some time ago, and as of today Aung San Suu Kyi would be marking the Xth anniversary of her latest house arrest.”

映月Ying Yue unrelated to what you’re saying, but related for context as to why exactly the military is able to do what they did there in myanmar,
“some people say ‘Aung San Suu Kyi has proven to be just as willing to turn a blind eye to genocide as her military predecessors.’
To give her the benefit of the doubt, it isn't like she or the civilian government could do or say much.

@映月Ying Yue I'm not an expert on this subject. I live in a country where it's the beacon for democracy but yet me and other minorities are treated like second class citizens or less. Democracy hasn't always worked for us, so my trust in it is shaky, but it's all I know. Even when it kicks me in the teeth, I'm still hoping it will one day work for me and people who look like me. @@77naaz Burmese people are frankly exhausted from trying to explain this to the ignorant people:
Now before all of you come in here saying "the government deserve it because they're responsible for genocide" NO. The ruling party is not. The military started the whole ethnic cleansing mess and ASSK was forced to deal with it. She didn't have any real power either. Before y'all priviledged people sitting in your cozy house start making judgements like "oh but she could have voiced out..." SHE COULDN'T. You guys just don't understand how evil 3rd world military dictators can be. If she spoke anything off the script, the coup would have come sooner. And it's obvious the smear campaign was successful because the west eats up whatever the media feed without thinking critically or doing any researching, stripping off the Nobel Prize and titles, making her the figurehead of the genocide.
"Oh she was racist against muslims.." Nope. Her right hand man was a burmese muslim who got assassinated by the military because he was in the process of drafting a new constitution that renders the military with less power. He was also a very respected man in the country. (Search U Ko Ni)
