If Sarah had been a white woman, this house would look like it was built last year! The city needs to get their shit together and restore this home as not only black American history but American history also..
We currently have an effort underway to save this home. Thank you for your intrest and we look forward to your continuing support around this beautiful home.
Why don't you guys get a pettion started to save this house? That's historic. A movie should be done. Oprah, Tyler P. Denzel Washington, some of these black folk with money should do a movie and restore this house. The true story need to be told.
Great idea! And.....the local historical society could maybe do a themed fund raiser, restore it into a museum, have 'living museum' days, with tea parties, period dress, music, picnics on the lawn. Throw in a few ppl arriving by buggy or on horseback, Also, they cd rent it out for events, receptions.
She didn't move back to Oklahoma during the depression. She divorced her husband in 1930 and was remarried a few years later. She live in Kansas City until her death. They had a funeral service here but she was buried in Oklahoma
Ahh, ok. I mistakenly thought she moved back to Oklahoma, while she was still alive. Good information! There aren't many articles about her, on the Internet.
It's not in a great neighborhood. A lot of the windows appear to be broken, so they have plywood over them. I believe the church (behind the house), has purchased the house, and is trying to preserve or restore it.
Thank you for watching! I think the Church (behind the house) bought the property (house). It could take Hundred's of Thousands of Dollars, to restore the house. Hopefully they have "Skilled Volunteers", which means "free labor', and they only have to buy materials, and pay for Permits. Thanks for watching! :)
If I recall correctly, Sarah got her money as an inheritance, when she was younger than 21 years old. So, a Trust was formed, managed by white Men. She was legally declared White, by a Judge, so she could manage her own affairs. It was believed the Trust was "less than honest" (imagine that). Madame C.J. Walker was a very successful business woman. Thank you for watching!
I just remembered... Sarah was given land, by the US Government, since she was Creek. An oil company (Standard I believe) leased spots on her land, so they could tap into the oil reserves.
neither was Madame C.J.Walker. Her teacher Anne Malone was her teacher (for black hair care) and she was the 1st millionaire. she had beauty schools in the U.S and in Brazil. C.J. Walker learned from her.
When you own "Stock" in a company, you get paid in "Dividends". When the Stock Market crashed in October, 1929; her oil stock became value-less. Here's a Wikipedia link, which may explain it better... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Depression
She owned the land as well. She was cheated by lack of education to take the ownership of a few stocks deal. Her family needs to request the paperwork! What of her children? Where are they? Wheres her family know.
From everything I have found, through Public Records, it is privately owned by St. Marks Union Church; and the 12th St. Heritage Development Corporation. Thank you for watching!
INACCURATE INFO. She didn't lose everything! She owned other properties and moved to them. She married and had 3 sons and was generous of others. Most likely the children moved on and didn't have an interest in keeping the old home up. So much was left out if this interesting story. This is an injustice to Sarah Re tor. 😢
Yes, there are some inaccuracies in my video, but they are there to stay, because I can't "unsay" them. If I get a chance, I'll see about swinging by the house to see it's current condition. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Ms Rector was the 2nd African American female millionaire, and there were financial problems before her father's death and the depression. Very interesting story. Rags> Riches> Normalcy?> Death. And all in between.
i live in kansas city and am going to find this house. Ive been told it was on askew and ive been told its on euclid. can someone clarify this for me??
It's at 12th and Euclid. The actual address is a 12th St address. But, if you put in 1200 Euclid Ave, Kansas City, Mo. It will take you to the house. :) Thank you for watching!

Madam CJ Walker was the 1st Millionairess Business Owner. She started a "Beauty Line" (if I recall correctly). Sarah Rector got her money from the Oil Industry, as a Land-Owner (as decreed by and to the Creek Nation). The Federal Government allotted each member of the Creek Nation a certain amount of land, and the Rector's were lucky enough to have a Petrolium Company lease their land, to pump off oil. Thank you for watching my video, I greatly appreciate the view; as well as the comment. There is a great debate about Madame CJ Walker and Sarah Rector, regarding their "Millionaire Status". It is my understanding that Sarah Rector was the first Black Female Millionaire. But, I suppose this will always be the "Debate". :)
You bet! I didn't plan on shooting a "2nd part", but I got so many positive responses on the dashcam video, I knew I had to go back a shoot this video, in front of the house. As you can see, I am getting better at shooting, and editing my videos. Thank you for watching!

My question is how does the city own this mansion but not her family
Right.....
And she didn’t loose all her money. Quite a bit but not all. But I’m a curious to know what happened to the rest of her wealth and her three kids.
Why is Sarah rector house not restored as a museum and where is her family and children's
Just saw her story. Amazing. That place should be restored so visitors can see it in person

It's not that's why I ordered her book on Amazon..lol
Is it "Searching for Sarah Rector"?
Yes. It has the exact house number of the 2nd home she moved into on 24th & Brooklyn. Someone lives there and the house is still in good shape

People need to know more about Sarah Rector and her legacy. Her home should be renovated and brought up to standards. RIP sweet Sarah 💝
Yes. I believe there is a group, trying to preserve the house.
Google it and search until you find a U-tube video of her accurate life story. Very good.
I hate how they dont have the house kept up smh

I'm not sure. I'm going to buy the book, and do some more research. This has been an interesting journey so far!

Madam C.J. Walker was the first black female millionaire. Sarah Rector was the richest black female.

This is a national monument & should be fully restored by the state. It’s a shame KC allowed this to deteriorate. 😢
Hopefully it can be fully restored. Thanks for watching and commenting! 😀

That sounds correct.
Very interesting piece of history. Great video!

Sarah's story is very interesting I saw a video about her

That is not the full story.

It's not even the correct story. Her father didn't die and leave her money it was her money to begin with
