The kick may not have fully connected to his head but he still connected nonetheless. Slow down playback speed all the way and watch, Cro Cop's shin makes impact with the left side of his forehead (his head basically bounced off of it like a baseball). Many fights have been stopped from similar headkicks. I don't think Alberto took a dive, but at the same time he absolutely had no business being in a ring with Cro Cop.
If you watched MMA a bunch you realize that many "glancing" blows can be very disorienting, or devastating depending on where it connects. Pride had fixed fights but this wasn't one
I watched it in slow motion, and it looked like his head whiplashed to his left shoulder. Imagine if it connected cleanly. Would have been absolutely devastating.
It looked like it didn't connect but play it at a much slower speed and you can see Del Rio's head whiplash to his left from that kick. If that landed cleanly, it would have been absolutely nasty.
Bro had no idea Alberto del Río did mma wow bro as a kid I used to see him throw his arm at and didn’t think anything of it now doing bjj and watching mama for years you can almost tell when someone has some sort of experience had no idea he was an actual wrestler with accolades and a decent mama fighter going 9-5 7 submissions 2 knockouts respect!!
I think Quinton Rampage Jackson also said he was “encouraged” to lose a fight Then, there’s the whole thing about Pride going out of business when TV networks wouldn’t go near it after it was rumored Pride had ties with the Japanese Yakuza. Without a TV/PPV deal, Pride went downhill and the UFC purchased it. Coincidentally, Dana White predicted that Pride would go under within a year, and it did. I wonder if he secretly helped expose it. This was in the early days after the Fertitta brothers purchased the UFC. Back then, Pride was bigger than the UFC. BTW Pride events always felt bigger than life, they truly made the fights feel important, and their rules are still the best in MMA to this day. To bad they went under.
Desde antes del podcast de Dos Caras Jr. Ya había visto esa pelea, también de otros luchadores mexicanos en este tipo de peleas con fracasos, esto sí es pelea real
That impressive how he was knocked out with his eyes open but somehow he wasn’t fully knocked out. That finishing blow to the face didn’t phase Del Rio either.
Some fights in Pride were absolutely fixed, but it would be easier to tell, because they looked a lot more like pro wrestling works. Submissions held for long time while the other guy dramatically attempts freeing himself or getting to the ropes, very telegraphed strikes, etc. I think they did eat real punches and kicks or the sake making their worked fight look more real. Although it would rarely ever be the foreign guys and almost always the Japanese wrestlers/fighters who would be in worked fights.
