The classic Mauser C96 Broom Handle in 7.63z25, or .30 Mauser, if a very powerful, well made and reliable handgun for being one of the earliest successful auto-loading handguns. The C96 Broom Handle saw action is most military conflicts from the early 1900's until WII. While somewhat exotic and ever increasing in value, affordable collectibles like this can still be found. We talk about this C96 30 Mauser Broom Handle I discovered in a local gun store.

Hawkeye 47 - You do realize that this won't end until your only choice is to get on your knees and take one in the temple, right? The death of a thousand cuts leads to banning rocks, sticks, cap guns, fists and feet as dangerous weapons in the hands of the undesirables (i.e., average citizens). You'll have to turn in your hands and feet at your nearest police station after the next Dems take over in CA.
Time to think about an exit strategy. Friendly states still exist!

Dog of War - Might be, but that one would only be available in "free states". LOL
Seriously, states like CA and even some Counties have lists of acceptable firearms. Being so old, the Mauser pistols might be exempt, but each place is different. If you want one and your location permits it, go for it! Not sure of ammo cost though, might check that too.

You can carry the Mauser c96 cocked and locked, 1911-style. With the hammer cocked, pull back on the hammer slightly and hold it down, then engage the safety. The safety is now engaged with the hammer locked. You can also lock the bolt open for loading single rounds: with the bolt locked back on an empty magazine, pull the trigger and lower the hammer partway, then allow the bolt to go forward; the bolt will stop its forward travel because the hammer is blocking it. Now you can feed individual rounds without a stripper clip. To make the pistol ready to fire, pull back on the bolt, then cock the hammer and release the bolt.

      @Christopher-N 6 лет назад +3

I think I get what *Rick Delve* is trying to say. He's just saying that if Greedo even thinks about drawing his gun on Han Solo, then Greedo's already lost because that's the guy Han is. No post-Special Edition corrections to satisfy both camps: Han shot, and Greedo was dead before his head hit the table.

to put the gun on the safety in the cocked position, you need to slightly pull the hammer back and move the safety lever forward/up. It is so-called "Third type " or the "New safety". And ,
if the open bolt is pulled further back, it will remain in the open position and will not close automatically during placing loose rounds one by one in the magazine .

I really wanted one of these a while back, but any time I went on Gunbroker, there were either immaculate ones going for 2k+, or ones that went for $500-700, but had pitting so bad that you'd think the gun was hit by really fine shrapnel. I just bought a Bolo model. It is that brown, old gun color, the bore is shot out and needs relining. ($400) The Bakelite grips were loose, worn smooth and the screw was frozen solid. The upper is one SN while the lower is another. It has some pitting on the left side, but is a "shooter". I buy Tokarev ammo but replace the powder to a .30 Mauser level, it is way cheaper.

You absolutely can put the safety on while the hammer is cocked: pull back slightly on the hammer and the safety can be engaged.
I bought my c96 bolo from a pawn shop for $300. Exterior was 100% rusted, bad pitting in a couple places, bore shot out, extractor missing, magazine spring broken, grips worn smooth and looked like a beaver chewed them. Replaced the missing/broken parts, got new grips, cleaned all the rust off, just need to get a stock and have someone reblue it and reline the barrel. I'd rather have a full-sized pistol than the bolo, but beggars can't be choosers.

A better way to load without a stripperclip is to file a length of brass strip 1/8" x 3" the width of the loading slot. Gently drop the bolt onto the brass strip which frees up the follower. Individual rounds can be easily loaded into the pistol. When you pull out the brass, the bolt will drop chambering a round.

I saw one of these go for $8500 at an auction last summer. It's classed as a prescribed antique here in Canada, and they fetch quite the premium.

Another way of loading the C-96 without a striper clip and not from the top is to pop the floor plate and load 9 rounds into the box magazine upside down. Then put the follower against the rounds and push the spring down until flushed and slide the floor plate back until it snaps and locks. Fairly slow but better that having the bolt slam forward as you are loading while holding the bolt back with your other hand.

Best deal I got at a gun show would either a 280 dollar no4 mk1 or a 275 dollar L1a Ishapore, both with mint bores.

I can confirm. Snatched up a nice looking K31 at a local gun shop for roughly 350 dollars.

Cool video! I can pull my hammer all the way back and hold it there on mine and apply the safety. Works good on my 2 C96's. When ready to fire kick it off....Don't think I would pack it that way but it works at the range.

I have to say, the C96 "broom handle" really is unique, it may not look perfect, but it's really effective, even if I hadn't seen a real one myself.

One thing--a local gun store advertised 7.62 x 25 Tokarev ammunition as being for the C96. Read the labels carefully.

I acquired several broom handles some time ago and by several makers. Mauser, FEG, a Chinese, Star, etc. There are small differences from the Mauser, but the all use either the .30 Mauser or 9mm. Thing is I didn't give more than $100 for any of them.

What a coincidence, I'm picking up a C.96 Bolo today. Got a repro stock/holster with an original period frog and screwdriver in the deal too.

I picked one up for about $450 and did a rust blue job after having to weld up and completely re-shape the grip frame back to original because it was totally rusted out. Put in a new hammer wishbone spring (I found a guy that was making them) and the old girl shoots great. Just be careful of that bolt block and check for fractures. It's the only thing keeping the bolt from flying into your eyeball on cycling.

I want to get one to convert to a replica of Han Solos blaster. And the wooden stock holster addition is so neat it would be great for a camp gun. Mac got a such a great deal on that old piece. That’s a lot of gun and craftsmanship for the price. It’s the oldest of old school. Fun video.

  • @The01dog

If you don't have any stripper clips you can make a U shaped piece of metal to fit between the frame and the back of the bolt. It will need to be long enough to keep the bolt clear of the magazine. Maybe make some cuts and bend metal out to make handles for ease of removal.

Mac, I know this video is older now, but I'm just seeing it. You CAN PUT THE SAFETY ON after it is charged... on the N/S or new type Safety models like that one, you have to pull the hammer back a bit, and then put the safety on... so it's cocked and locked so to speak.
