- Am I the only one who thinks he looks like Buddy Holly in the picture? XD Anyway, lovely version, just Billy, a piano, some back-up singers and a harmonica. :)
I believe this to be a rare version (please do correct me if I'm wrong!) and I don't think this has been uploaded to RUclips before (I do like to try to avoid double, or sometimes triple, quadrouple etc posts).
I'm afraid I don't know the year - if anyone does, please tell me.
Taken from a lovely rarities site that unfortunately passed away last year.
This version is absolutely amazing. I'd say its better than the album version. It portrays the mood of the lyrics a lot better and fits the western style of the album better.
better than the album version but not better than greenvale 77
I cant believe this isnt more well known. Sure, its a bit quiet, but its still gorgeous.
great song
Wow. Fan of Billy since the mid 70's, and THIS is an amazing version. This made my day way better!
Fantastic,best version of ever!
This seriously sent shivers down my spine. I love it.
He also sings here:
"Sweet Virginia cigarette burning in my hand,
well you used to be a friend of mine, but now I understand
you've been BUILDING UP inside me for some time"
usually it is EATING UP
This has to be the demo because if you listen to the demos from My Lives, he uses harmonica. And the lyrics were different so it has to be a demo. Thanks for uploading
Fantastic artist.
Thanks for this! Less is often more, especially in this case. Brevity is the soul of wit.
Talento Talento Talento
woah this is awesome you have no idea it has a couple of things i love in music its only missing the crowd of a live performance realizing what song it is and going crazy. love it. thanks. with only the piano and harmonica its just cool.
Thanks so much for this. Awesome song and I like this version alot, differences and all.
Fantastic!
@funshipM174 I think that that and the fact that he repeats the bridge-y bit in this version are the only two lyrical differences but yeah, I do love these old alternate versions of songs. It kinda makes you feel like you're listening to them for the first time again ^^
@SaturnTrack It could be, I'm afraid I really don't know - I just got this off of a fansite with no details about it other than that it was a pretty rare find
Is it just me or does he look ALOT like Buddy Holly in that photo?
@stumiller Aww you're welcome ^^ glad you like!
@TheFooey Glad you like! ^^
@funshipM174 Ah yes, I've spent quite some time sat there trying to learn the harmonica part... Apparently I'm not as good as whoever played it in this recording... ^^
@username102793 I know, it's ever so pretty isn't it ^^ And I'd agree with you regarding the album version
“Sweet Baby” James? Can you hear it? 😎
@ThePancakeSquad Yay! Someone else thinks so too! :D
@CristianMolinaro28 It's so pretty isn't it ^^
I'd like to know how he plays the fills I hear on the piano here, I get the basic chord structure but the rest is a mystery
Billy has a certain soul in his piano playing, too, that Elton doesn't have. Love them both, but just saying. Great rendition.
@@officergregorystevens5765 That’s because he writes the lyrics and music, so he has a personal attachment to his songs as if it’s his children.
Do you think this is a demo? It seems like a demo to me.
Much slower, and nicer
