If you het the chance, listen to his live show. Zappa in New York is an amazing album. You get the funny, and then you get the skill and complexity. Be warned, once you go down the Zappa hole, you won't want to come back 😂
Nice reaction to a true genius who was a huge free speech advocate that testified at a senate hearing. A song called I've Seen All Good People by YES is a gem ✨️🎶✨️
You are very intuitive concerning Frank Zappa. I know just a little about Frank as I saw him 7 times in concert and briefly spoke with him twice plus I just saw his son Dweezil Zappa in Portland for the 18th time since 2006. I'm glad that I ran across you channel and look forward to more of your reaction videos.
@WilliamWiest1959 Wow, William! I would say you must know a lot about Frank. That is awesome that you saw him so many times and got to speak to him. That must have been so cool. I appreciate the kind words and am glad you found my channel too 🤩💙
Late to the party, but I'd suggest "Son of Orange County and More Trouble Every Day", but the live version, so you can see the whole band in 1973. It's somewhere on RUclips, and It's extremely entertaining.
❤❤ thank you so much You picked a good one First off musically Frank was a genius He had only the top musicians in his band and this track is essentially a live track from a concert in London with a few overdubs Frank did not like Disco and was not shy about that This track is off an Album called Sheik Yerbouti , making fun of KC and Sunshine Band Frank was an innovator with multi racial and both men and women in his band Active for 64-93 he recorded 63 albums in his lifetime He died at age 53 And since his passing 50+ more albums So from a catalog of 1000s of songs how can i pick one for your channel Here 5 suitable Zappa tracks Peaches en Regalia ( instrumental ) Love of My Life ( Doo Wop song off Cruising with Reuben and the Jets album ) Joe Garage : title track of album about starting out in music Montana ; a song about Dental Floss : this is pure Zappa Im the Slime : timely track about Media from 1973 off album Overnight Sensation as is Montana Frank fought the PMRC and was considering running for president ; he died of cancer too young Can say it enough he was a genius 🎸
Hey Jesse, this must be the comment you were talking about. I just got it now for some reason. Thanks for the other tracks. I will give them a listen. He was definitely poking fun at the disco culture so that makes complete sense that he didn't like it. I can't believe how many songs and albums he had out. It is incredible. He must have been recording all the time....unbelievable 😍
Yes! Best (my favorite) version is the live one on You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore, Vol. 4, Disc 2. Dear Sue, if you keep at it and dig into his discography, you'll soon learn about this nerd stuff of comparing versions of songs (and instrumentals) from different albums/era/bands/tours, etc. etc. I wish I could go back to the beginning of my now 31 years old journey from the first times I heard Zappa.
The line “ one of my legs is shorter than the other “ is referencing a time when he was thrown off stage by a fan in London into the orchestra pit This was 1 weeks ago after the Smoke on the Water fire Anyway FZ was in a wheelchair for almost a year a eneded up with permanent limp he also broke his larynx which caused his voice to drop and after this he started to take lead vocal parts more and more I guess a good song for my Canadian friends would be Don’t Eat The Yellow Snow Or actually do the Yellow Snow suite 4 connected songs on side 1 of Apostrophe
Zappa is a bit of a Rabbit Hole if you don't know anything aboot him. He covers almost evry Genre you can imagine. He has over 120 LPs oot with aboot half of them released after he died. Maybe try "Willie The Pimp" from Hot Rats with Capt Beefheart on Vocal, "Inca Roads (A Token of His Extreme 1974)" to see him live with probably the Best Touring Band you could get, or if you want something silly, there is "The yellow Snow Suite" which is a story in Four parts and aboot 10 Mins long.
Zappa is known for provocative lyrics. He hired the most skilful musicians available. He was a very special guitar player, all solos are unique improvisations. But, mainly he was a composer! He constantly created new material from his teen up to his death. And his instrumental pieces are and will be his largest historical impact. A piece like "RDNZL" is not for everyone and you don't get it during the first listening.
I left a comment with a few suggestions of songs you might have missed But i did want to say one more thing Frank was one of the greatest guitarist Watermelon in Easter Hay off Joes Garage Act 3 is probably something everyone would like if they gave it a chance
Yes, Zappa lyrics are often full of silliness, satire, and/or double entendre, sometimes a little too risque for some, so be ready for this going forward.
Although I must admit that I haven't listened to a great deal of Frank Zappa, from the tracks I've heard to date it's not really something I feel I can get into in a big way .. This track was actually the most accessible one I think I've sampled, and I didn't mind it at all .. But despite his obvious talent, his unusual eclectic style just isn't a thing I can consistently get my head around yet.
@wayne_twentyfive Hey Wayne, I can totally understand what you are saying. I don't know any of his other stuff so I can't compare other songs, but he is definitely eclectic 🤩💜
Disco Boy has to follow this
Zappa is a Badass - love it

Don’t Eat The Yellow Snow
Or actually do the Yellow Snow suite 4 connected songs on side 1 of Apostrophe
@jessem470 Wow that must have been a bad accident!
Don't Eat the Yellow Snow is definitely a thing all Canadian kids are told hahaha 🤣💙
It wasn't the best week for him. The "Rainbow" gig is oot on vinyl with the incident almost audible at the end.
