It is good to see the old neighborhood, and the new community members. Lot of great memories in those streets. I noticed that Baskin and Robins was gone on Maple and Main.
I grew up in Flushing and lived there ‘79 - ‘99. It was wild to see it transform from a small town feel (historic pics were still displayed in the Main St. post office). If only I could go back in time and spend a day there as it was ❤
Northern Blvd/Main St and Northern Blvd/Prince St - back in the 1970's, in that area, I remember the Jolly Joint; Gloria's Pizza; RKO Theater; had two friends that lived on and near Prince St; the church with the graveyard in the back; and then in 1982 on Main St was the store (near Gloria's Pizza) where I bought my first Saxon t-shirt (and I think Motorhead shirt also). I used to live on 163rd St and 29th Ave and took the #16 bus to Roosevelt Ave/Main St. Gertz became Sterns and Alexander's was there also, Woolworth's was on the corner of Roosevelt and Main. The great pizzeria on Roosevelt Ave on the same side as Stern's was still there in 1995 the last time I went to NY. Bought my first pair of straight leg Levi's jeans for about $17 in 1981/1982 on Roosevelt Ave across the street from Stern's. I miss the OLD Flushing because I don't recognize much from Flushing nowadays. I moved out of NY in 1984. My parents bought our house on 163rd St for around $25,000 back in 1960 and now it's worth about $960,000. That's insane! I don't understand how people can afford to own a house anywhere in NY. They must all be millionaires (at least). Walking up 29th Ave to Francis Lewis Blvd, my father used to take me to the Carvel which was a treat. I went to I.S. 25 which wasn't too far away. Then walking to Northern Blvd from 162nd St and 32nd Ave was the UA Quartet, Mapleways Bowling was close by, and a few great pizzerias.
Lived w/ Wife in N Queens for 45 years b4 leaving for St Augustine 11/20. Remember "Old Flushing" Macy's/Gertz, Parson's Movie Theatre, RKO Main St Cinema, etc...don't recognize anything...
I think the same thing.i moved to Florida in 1980,I thought it would be nice to live. I could kick myself in the ass , should have never left my grandparents, I don't recognize anything in flushing now anymore,😢
Shocking and so depressing !! Unbelievable that an entire neighborhood can flip from being 90% + being Jewish to being 90%+ Asian in just a single generation !!!
I an 90 born in queens lived in Jackson Heights left in1970 to upstate NY Amazed at the High Rise buildings Great Video thank You

90% Jewish is an exaggeration, and it is neither shocking nor depressing. It is thriving.
Immigration.
Looks mostly Chinese now. It wasn't like that in the 1980s.
