The fast way to remove the rear spring it to place a jack under the lower control arm in the rear (Under the inner control arm bolt). Remove the inner bolt on the lower control arm in the rear and slowly drop the the arm using the jack.
@lovedcc818 You do not need to remove the front LCA to remove the front springs. For the rear springs you need to remove the LCA. Remember if this is your first time it will be a bit scary being that close to the spring. That's why you place a jack under the front LCA as a second layer of protection.
@XmojotronX If you put lowering springs on then you need a Alignment afterwards. The problem is that your camber will be out of spec with lowering springs. The adjustment bolts can only go so far before you need to get aftermarket camber plates for the front of the car. If your swapping out for new oem springs then you should be fine without an alignment.
It was done on my 1987 190E and I got the spring compressor in 2009. Seeing how you mentioned that the springs are in visibly bad shape I would just change out the shocks also. You're already down there so you might as well.
Another awesome video,i found another video by a different gentleman using this tool but it wasn't as detailed as this video, i have a 91 mustang Gt that has a similar setup like a Mercedes and i have changed my springs in the past using that awful claw compressor which sucks bad and its dangerous, someone told me this tool will also work on my mustang and i was thinking about buying one for a upcoming job where im gonna change my control arms and struts, thank you for showing us how it works, they have another tool like this one on amazon with some variations but they want like 150 for it, i can buy this one for 100 on eBay
dntlss Thanks for checking out my video. Yes I've seen the Mustang setup and the Spring Compressor that i use in the video will work for your car. I have more videos that will help give you some ideas on how to go about changing the front springs on your car. Make sure to check them out and feel free to ask any questions. I also recommend buying rubber tubing to prevent metal to metal contact as seen on the lower part of the spring in this video. ruclips.net/video/6XfEOwBgzJM/видео.html&src_vid=QGms7ygBeE4&feature=iv&annotation_id=annotation_2605960407 ^DIY Spring removal ruclips.net/video/IIQV1cuVx18/видео.html ^Shorter version of the same video above.
One Man On Fire Hey thank you for the fast reply, yeah i have done this job before but never with the right tool like this one,the rubber things you refer to they call them "coil spring isolators" and my mustang actually comes with a lower and a upper, the lower is a tube, almost like a garden hose piece and the upper is called a "hat" last time i did this job because of the worthless tool i used i actually could not compress the springs enough to put the new isolators i had just purchased so i left them out, i haven't had any issues with squeaking or corrosion but here in about a month when i replace my lower arms and my struts im gonna use this tool so ill put my new isolators back in!!! i used to hate doing my springs but i think when i buy this tool i wont hate it that much,i love working on cars,i turned 45 today and ive been working on cars since i was 10 with my old man,im a big into DIY
Doing bearings on the front of the car is super easy and only requires a big hammer and punch. The only issue is its messy and hitting out the race in the hub is annoying. If you want to get even more technical then change out the Balljoint. Watch the video in my video reply section to this video.
My coil spring perched now I got a problem have to remove the coils and weld the mounts ? W210 model 1999 year Do you have a video for repair? What's it cost to repair it?
Oh alright thankyou, I havent seen this type of spring compressor before.. Is there anything else needed to be done to put the new spring in the strut other then compressing and installing? I was reading and someone was saying to do something with the bearing on top..? if that makes sense ahah
When i first got the spring compressor it took me one whole day to do one corner of the car. I'll be uploading a new video soon on how to change the shock without removing the spring.
I just installed H&R lowering springs on my w210. They're supposed to lower the entire car front and rear by 1.2" the rear dropped only .5" and the front actually lifted an entire inch. It looks terrible. Im in contact with H&R but im curious if im missing a trade secret. No the springs are not upside down and yes they're positioned properly in their seat.
@@conradpaul489 that would make since if all 4 springs had this issue but to raise the car is unheard of. Would you happen to know where i can find thinner top rubber hat? Because i can't.
@@misfitbuilds5445 Oh then that's bad i thought it would maybe be the spring pads, i took a spring out of my w210 for the first time some days ago to change my spring pad from a 3 to 1 and kept the spring at a good distance away. The hardest part was getting the original spring pad out lol. I bought front ones but im kinda scared to do it. I'm glad to hear eibach did the job tho! I have H&R lowering springs for a W210 E55 when i buy one but i might sell them idk got them pretty cheap unused.
I don't recommend cutting the OEM springs that came with the car. I recommend using SL500 R129 springs (Heavier car) and slowly cutting one coil at a time and using different rubber spring pads (1 dot to 4 dots) to fine tune the height. If you're looking for a 3 to 4 inch drop you'll end up blowing your shocks in a matter of time. It would be more cost effective to replace it with Yellow Speed Racing for the 190E ($1000 on ebay/Amazon). Feel free to ask more questions.
Is this tool enough to remove spring from W210? Or i have to remove other suspension components too? I just have got tool like this and wonder how to work with it properly.
Yes I own a w210 and you can use it. Just remember to practice safety first. I use a floor jack under the lower control arm to have it parallel with the ground. Tie a rope to the spring to the body. Its scary at first and will take you a long time.
How old is the car? Can it make sense to change springs and shocks 'for good measure' when I buy a 10-15 year old car, or should I only touch the springs when they are in visibly bad shape?
Stupeflyer All I did was remove the wheel, turning the steering wheel for more room, and compress the spring. That's it. You can see another video here its only 3 minutes long. ruclips.net/video/IIQV1cuVx18/видео.html
Holger José Otto ANDRé Barboza I use a 1/2 ratch, extension, and socket. I have other videos on my page on how to remove the spring in more detail. Please take a look and make sure to subscribe and like the videos. also if you have any questions feel free to ask me anytime I can help you out
Jack side you working on. Put jack stand. Remove wheel. Put jack under control arm. Remove shock from knuckle Slowly let jack down And now you can remove the spring and you didn't even need a compressor
Jack the wheel up (or lower ball joint) with a floor jack to compress the spring. Then tighten two heavy ratchet straps (one on each side of spring). Jack up car with floor jack and let wheel hang, should be plenty of room to remove spring. To compress a new spring for install, place coil spring on floor jack and jack up against immovable object (I use my truck bumper) then add ratchet straps as before. For really heavy springs weld two hooked rods around the compressed springs, and cut them with an angle grinder to remove.
CRACKING VIDEO ,AN EASY JOB LOOKING AT YOU DOING IT . ITS A NICER JOB THAN I EXPECTED. GOOD WORKMANSHIP.
Nicely done, you made it look such an easy job, I changed mine springs today too, and it took way more time than that 8mins. :-D

@lovedcc818 the rear doesnt need removal of the LCA, much easier to unbolt shock, ARB, and out LCA bolt, the spring just pops out then
The two plates grab the spring and are connected to a telescoping shaft the helps compress the spring.

I wanna lower mine by cutting the springs do u think if I cut 2 coils it won't b draging cuz I wanna drop it 3 1/2 inches or 4

Doesn't the blood rush to your head working upside down?
No I'm not upside down I'm on my back or bent over with my body in front of the front bumper.
@ray190te i had to buy one to do the ones on my car, i spend 220, sold it on ebay a week later for 200

you can buy these at ebay, best spring compressors you can buy, I bought the $30 ones from advanced auto parts and they didn't help much
dont mean to be asking a stupid question, but whats the point of putting those metal plates between the coils
?
i want to do it to my 05 c230 komp. do you have to do a "custom alignment" after? i know how to do a regular but not a custom.

Name of tool please.
Mike M klan Mercedes spring compressor
Jack side you working on.
Put jack stand.
Remove wheel.
Put jack under control arm.
Remove shock from knuckle
Slowly let jack down
And now you can remove the spring
and you didn't even need a compressor
I'd have all four out by the time you have done one
A bit of narrative might have helped with this demo...
what's with these no audio videos? Totally ridiculous.
you don't need a spring compressor, they just want to sell expensive tool.
You're welcome to tell me how you would remove it then.
Jack the wheel up (or lower ball joint) with a floor jack to compress the spring. Then tighten two heavy ratchet straps (one on each side of spring). +Kirk Blee That doesn't sound safe
Working on coil springs is always dangerous, you've gotta be careful no matter how you do it.
