This is a short tutorial on how to fix your alert box in StreamElements. This is a very specific problem I was having so if you are having other issues please leave a comment down below and I will gladly help you out!

So what do we do when this doesn't work and alerts still only show on the website but not OBS?
Exactly what I was thinking. I thought that's what this video was for and he never mentioned how to fix the actual issue was looking for lol Like i have it all set up, and it shows up, but when I am live and someone became a member on my stream, the alert didn't pop up.
@@TheChoZenOneNJ I’ve been searching the internet for about four hours now trying to fix it, and they just kinda dodge the actual answer. This doesn’t actually fix it, probably just making the video for revenue from the views tbh.
Try to refresh the source in OBS, that's how I fixed it...
wow, so it was really all about having the 1920x1080 resolution there...i spent like 40 minutes trying everything but couldn't figure it on my own, so thank you so much for this :D
Well done! Super helpful. I was getting hung up on the default dimensions in OBS. When I didn't change it to a 16:1 ratio, the alert was showing up, but was cut off. Once I had the dimensions right, it fired off just fine.

This helped me. You may want to specifically say to test if the widget is working you go back to stream elements and click the emulate there and see if it works on your stream on obs. Thanks for this!

My alerts were working perfectly in StreamElements' overlay editor.
They were showing up with sound in OBS.Live.
But they were not centered and were being cut off in OBS.Live.
Setting the AlertBox width and height in SE overlay editor AND making it match in the "Browser Source" part of OBS is what did the trick!

I updated the variations for my subs but it just keeps showing the default one... I saved each variation and the overall overlay. No idea what I'm doing wrong. The sound was updated but not the video/animation.
what about when alerts lag while your live but, not when your not live?
If someone using OBS for Linux happens to find this video, the method presented by Jimmy will not solve your problem. As of right now, February 2021, there's no Hardware Acceleration support in OBS Studio yet, so, alerts using videos will simply not work. As a workaround, you might try to convert your video to a GIF and maybe extract the sound and upload it separately to the action you're editing. Worked like a charm for me.
And Jimmy, thanks for posting this. It didn't solve my problem but prompted me to the solution.

Loved this tutorial ,this helped me out a bunch . I do have one question, maybe you know why this is happening. I made a custom video clip that lasts about 4-5 seconds, when I hit the emulate (test) on streamelements website it works fine . But in OBS and in the live stream the clip animating is stopping about half way. Thoughts?

thanks jeans, i have this issue using streamlabs dashboard and OBS, the test works fine, but when i'm live it works some times, and other times not at all. Don't know if you have any experience with streamlabs tools and using OBS ? keep em high and tight

It still doesnt work for me cause I got a Streamelements Overlay and my alerts are all included there so no 1920x1080 setup possible for the small alert box lets say. The only difference I see is the custom CSS that is enabled on my overlay. Is that maybe the issue?
hmm try making a seperate overlay for the alert box if you can and test that maybe?

Good stuff. When I try to emulate from SE page into OBS, I get the following: Emulation sent, but alerts are paused in the activity feed. It isn't showing up in my preview in OBS or in the activity feed.

I did everything. It only shows up when I’m testing it . My stream labs is correct I’m using obs browsers with the stream elements url link. But when I go live I try to unfollow and follow the stream so I can see the alert in live action and nothing pops up . I still need help

Where did you do the "follower event" test? You clicked somewhere off screen. I can't get find where to do that test.
It's at the bottom of the screen it will say emulate with a bell icon

Thanks so much, this really helped me sort it out. It has been annoying me for a while now.
Some of the changes I'm making to the sound alerts aren't being saved, when Stream Elements says they are. I tried uploading custom sounds for all the alerts, and they all worked, except for the Sub and Cheer alerts. Those won't change, even after I hit "Save" and it says "Changes saved". The sounds are still on the defaults, and I can't get them to change
I am using SE for Streams on RUclips, but somehow neither the alert goes off, nor do I see the latest subscriber in the "Latest Subscriber" box. The emulate works fine... I really don't know what to do now.
Very helpful and insightful! Followed the step-by-step instructions to the letter from the video, however, I'm still not able to show the preview on obs and it's still not popping up during livestreams. Deleted and tried again 3 - 4 times using same instructions, and still was unable to get alerts to show on obs. Advice?

No not live. You have to test it in streamelements under emulate near the bottom while in the alert box editor.

in the alert box editor, its at the bottom, you'll see a bell and its called Emulate

Hi Jimmy, thanks for this, I stayed up all night to make it work and I managed to get two alerts from subs on RUclips, but nothing else. Can the software be selective about how it displays alerts? As in it will choose which subs to show and which not to show? Hope this makes sense. Keep up the good work!
Hey! Glad this helped. Yes for RUclips it will be selective. I had this issue too. I believe it's the privacy settings in the actual subscribers account.

Unfortunately it doesn't work for me. There's no audio for me once I close the SE site.
Can it be 720p instead of 1080? My streams are typically in 720P, and the alert box fills the entire section. I just sometimes have issues with certain alerts popping up like shares or likes. I have my streamelement set up with Facebook streaming.

Yes they rarely work because of youtubes privacy settings. I made a short video explaining it as well

Oh I see..In order for the sub alerts to show, the person subscribing will have to have their sub privacy settings off. If you turn yours off it wont matter.

Hi Jimmy! I tried this method and still my share alert won't appear while I'm live streaming on facebook. The reaction alert is showing but not the share. I'm worried that maybe my other alerts won't show as well. Hope you can help me fix this. I'm using OBS for streaming and streamelements overlay. By the way, this video was really helpful. Thank you!

What if we dnt stream in 1080p? My base resolution is 1440p, rescaled to 720 when I stream, so should I change my alertbox to 720 instead of 1080?
When I resize it thats actually just the ratio of the screen not the quality of the picture. 1920 x 1080 should work fine.

Okay but how do you make it pop up during streams when LIVE? When I test the streamelements alerts they pop up perfectly, but when someone became a member today for my channel when I was LIVE, they didn't pop up
If you're streaming on RUclips, the alerts rarely work due to RUclips privacy settings.
