My first trip up to Conway, PA to see Norfolk Southern in action on their mainline track, the Fort Wayne Line. This stretch of track starts at Conway and then heads southeast to split at CP BELL into either the Pittsburgh Line, Conemaugh Line, or the Mon Line.
One of the few trains running that day was NS 9587, with a Union Pacific engine pulling a monster intermodal consist. Then, not long after that train had passed through, a second train on the same line had stopped far off in the distance as the train crew threw switches and waited patiently for oncoming traffic.
In the second part of this video, we head back to McKeesport, PA. Not long after a derailment on the Youghiogheny River bridge. This CSX coal train was stopped and later abandoned by its crew because of the extensive cleanup and track repairs. They had rented a nearby motel and were forced to stay their for two nights.
The shot from the Lyle Blvd Bridge shows CSX personnel repairing track that had been damaged from the derailment. Later, an autorack train passes through slowly and heads southeast through Port Vue on the Youghiogheny Branch.

I used to live in Pittsburgh for 3 years and spent many of my off days on Route 65 to follow this line and Route 28 parallels the Conemaugh line, which was literally down the hill from my old house in Troy Hill. Then across the river you had Allegheny Valley Railroad. So I was in absolute heaven. I always luck out and live near tracks, excepting my current home. My childhood home, where Dad lives is across Cuyahoga River on CSX New Castle Sub. When I lived in Duluth Ga, I dont know the name but it was a Norfolk Southern line from Atlanta to Charlotte. After that, I lived 200 feet from NS Conemaugh line and AVR. And when I first moved to Tampa, two houses down from one of the CSX spurs that cross 56th street. But I'm always a stone's throw from a mainline of some sort. I am fascinated with trains and unlike most people, I love when a train shakes my houses foundation. Rocks me right to sleep.
